Chapter 229
229 Temporary Teammates
Luo Xiao looked at the two guys in front of him and felt all his nerves settle again. It was very hard to remain frightened when encountering two such interesting people.
“Your only skill is to flee?” Just to make sure, Luo Xiao felt that it was necessary to ask whether or not he had heard correctly. It seeemed somewhat pointless to put a pair of escapees into this Secret Realm.
“My name is Da Tou, and this is Xiao Tou. We grew up togeth in the countryside, and some day we got picked up by the Xiuhe Sect. The Xiuhe Sect is among the weaker ones that can send members to this Secret Realm, so unlike your Gu family, we do not plan on fighting for the important resources.” Da Tou could see Luo Xiao’s confusion, and he quickly explained.
Xiao Tou continued and took over the explanation; “In our situation, the most important thing is actually to stay alive. Our individual abilities are not enough to fight the stronger factions, so what our sect hopes is that we can just catch a few leaks and run away to keep our lives safe. Even if we do not gain anything great, we will have gotten much more as long as we stay alive.”
Having heard the explanation from the two young men and gained a better understanding of their situation. In fact, he also approved of the intention of their sect, as survival was clearly the biggest issue within this Secret Realm.
Many, himself included, had joined this realm with the purpose of gaining a good opportunity or finding some precious treasures to help him step into a higher level of cultivation, but he had forgotten that if he lost his life in the process, then he would end up with nothing apart from breaking Jiang Yao’s heart.
Although it was important to improve his own abilities, Luo Xiao also remembered that his life was what mattered most. Even if he had to take risks, he needed to ensure that what he was risking his life over was worth it, and not just being caught up in the thoughts of having to walk on the edge of life and death to become stronger.
Listening to Da Tou and Xiao Tou, Luo Xiao seemed to gain a newfound understanding of how important it was to remain alive. Although he had given promises to Ye Chao and Ye Feng before entering the Secret Realm, it was not before now he fully understood the importance of how to act.
As such, he was very grateful to these two funny guys that had appeared out of nowhere.
.....
“Do you know why our group has been split apart?” Luo Xiao decided to ask another question that had made him confused. Prior to entering the Secret Realm, he had been told that the groups would stick together, but after losing all his senses, he was attacked, and by the time he arrived, he was all alone.
“We do not know the specific reason,” Da Tou began speaking, “but we did realize that we got attacked by some strange tentacles made out of darkness. Both Xiao Tou and myself were attacking the same tentacle, and we ended up next to one another by the time we arrived here.”
Luo Xiao also remembered the strange tentacle that had attacked him when he was about to arrive. Could it be that everyone had been attacked by one? But, if so, why had this never happened before?
“Don’t worry too much,” Xiao Tou could see that Luo Xiao was confused. “Although we have been split up, most should have been able to survive. The tentacles were very powerful, but as long as you were more than one person, they were possible to attack and avoid.”
Luo Xiao had realized how difficult they were to handle alone, but since Xiao Tou said that it was possible to handle them when being two together, he believed him. He also knew that one of his weaknesses was melee combat, and the tentacle had been very close to him during the attack.
“Should we keep moving forward together?” Luo Xiao was not a person who would easily let down his guards whenever he encountered new people, but these two, Da Tou and Xiao Tou, had already shown him enough friendship to make it possible to travel together. Being with them would be a benefit, in case he had to flee again later.
Both brothers were also very happy with the suggestion. The Xiuhe Sect was not very strong, so their martial arts techniques were severely lacking. Although they were able to flee, they really had no other benefit than their physical strength and their swift feet. Having Luo Xiao on their team would be a great addition to their combat power.
Both groups took what they needed, and they also felt more at ease, knowing that there was no unreasonable kindness without return involved.
“I suggest we avoid the forest from before. Although I do not know what was hidden within the depths, from the reaction of the wooden vines, it should not be a good thing.” Luo Xiao look back at the forest that was behind them. The lush green leaves and tranquil breeze gave the illusion of an ordinary and peaceful forest, but after entering, it was very far from the truth.
“When we landed, it was quite close to where we are now. There is a meadow next to us, and that was quite a dangerous place.” Xiao Tou could not help but shiver as he thought back to the experience they had in the meadow. Although they had managed to flee, the dangers within were not easy to solve.
