Vol. 11 - Chapter 536 - A Game of Attrition, First Elimination, and Forced Teleporation!
"Addie?!"
"Our base is in a pinch, Remi-chan. Hurry up and send Sedan to deal with the mess. I will stop him here."
The young 'bearkin' girl called Addie had apparently come from the base. She gave the giant hammer—it was even bigger than her—a spin with a single hand and rested it on her shoulder as she broke the news to her comrades. A prominent whoosh sound of cutting the wind echoed when she gave the hammer a spin.
A giant hammer... so envious. It was quite exciting to go full wham mode, eh?
"Alright then. We do need someone to stop Brave! I will help you out!"
The paper-fan girl—Remi-chan seemed to be her name—equipped her weapon and stepped forward.
But for some reason, Addie glanced at her surroundings in confusion.
"Well, so where are those moron, mindless monkeys, retards?"
"......They're all eliminated."
"......Those morons, mindless monkeys, retards!!"
Like a volcanic eruption, Addie roared when she heard the situation from paper-fan girl.
"Calm down, Addie!"
"Huff-Huff...... It's fine, I'm relaxed. I'm calm......haaa I definitely am going to bonk the heads of those dumbasses!"
Acha, it seemed like the boys of Class-2 were going to face a good thrashing later. No, seriously, don't do that! Their HP is already zero! (Fact)
"It's the usual, Addie. I will support you, so no need to hold back!"
"Yeah."
"Sedan, you return to the base! Our base is in a predicament! Keep the guardian monster at the pattern D we talked about before!"
Rumi-chan raised her voice at Sedan, still locked in the battle against Rika.
"I know, I heard you. Rika-san—for now, the victory is yours."
"—Hmm, sure enough. AGI is low to chase after."
Sedan shouted back in acknowledgment, created a distance with Rika and bolted in the direction of Base.
As the «Great Boxer», Sedan's AGI was naturally high. Rika could only watch helplessly, her brows furrowed, as his back blurred away in distance. Sedan also knew he was at disadvantage against Rika so he didn't bother sticking here.
Once Sedan was out, Rika then turned to glance at me.
"Do you need my help, Zephyr?"
"Nah, you should rather join the other members instead."
"I see. Very well, then I'm going out."
After a few exchanges, Rika, too, left the scene, pursuing after the Sedan's back.
"You're wide open!"
Meanwhile, as my attention had been diverted toward Rika, Addie swung the giant hammer at me with ease.
"—«Impact Guard»!"
"Whoa, «Defense»!"
This was the 'you mustn't show your back' type of skill—dodging it wasn't the option here. The moment you try to dodge, the hammer would crash into the ground where the player should've been, creating a crater and sending forth a shockwave that will blow you away. A two step skill. Tanking it was the only way.
She must have judged I would try to dodge given my speed. She was sharp.
The giant hammer collided against my Firmament Shield. I remained steadfast on my spot.
"Kuh, not a pushover huh."
"I am the last defense after all."
"Just befitting of Brave, you're not going to fail at straight ball huh. If only you had dodged, alas."
"Haha. It would be foolish to escape in front of this skill after all."
"—You know this skill?"
"Down to every detail, yes."
"No wonder then...though, thank you. I had intended to show my gratitude for a while."
"Hmm? That's really out of the blue."
"Well yeah, I had been waiting for a moment like this. My job is «Forest Lord». I managed to acquire it after you dropped the hint that one ought to defeat a monster for that."
"«The Lord of Forest»? Oh, a high-high ranking job!"
"You even know that huh."
"It's a nice job, right? Its offensive capabilities are overwhelming. But, how did you know it was me?"
"After bringing in so many changes, who wouldn't realise?"
"Hahaha, I appreciate the heads up then."
"It's my pleasure but, putting aside my gratitude... I am not going to let you win easily."
"! —Whoa there, a surprise attack."
Just as I had been locked in a stalemate against Addie's hammer, an arrow shot in my direction from the flank. My «Intuition» and «Super Reflex» flared up immediately as I twisted and dodged it.
I had just back-stepped to stabilise my posture when Addie came chasing with her offence.
"It's not so easy to escape. Unique Skill «Forest Monarch»!"
"A powerful self-buff that increases stats and enhances normal attack offensive by sealing the skill usage for the duration huh."
«Forest Monarch»—while bringing the demerit that turns off the usage of skill with itself, the unique skill granted an enhanced, self-strengthening modifier to stats even beyond «Brave»'s «Brave Heart».
"!!"
Addie took a swing of her hammer at me, but her eyes had peeled wide at my utterance. She must have assumed it would be impossible to catch me with skills so turned to use normal attacks. however I figured that out.
"Quite well-versed huh."
"Well, thank you! «Shine Lightnin—Intuition another arrow!"
Alarms rang in my mind just as I was about to use magic. The precise intervention from the paper-fan girl interrupted my skill casting.
"Not in my watch!"
"Haaaa!"
I escaped from the trajectory of the arrow, but aiming for the timing, Addie pursued with newfound speed and power.
Soon, I was caught in a rhythm; something, the hammer would swing from above my head, sometimes it would sweep horizontally, or on another occasion an arrow would jump in my direction.
I focused on evading, led around by my «Intuition» and «Super Reflex».
Addie's strength was unparalleled.
There would be a sharp sound of something cutting through the wind each time she wielded her hammer like scythe, and anything her attack landed on the ground, it would create a crater, or maybe even leave a depression.
The might of her normal attacks were no joking matter.
She had the knack to read situations as well; evident as she had opted to agile normal attacks than the skills. She had a good grasp of her unique skill, and her movements felt as if she had faced many agile opponents.
Nonetheless, it was just a single hammer; she would need more than just a normal attack to challenge me.
The only tricky part was the counterattack. I had wanted to, but anytime I tried that, the arrow would interrupt me. Their coordination was quite—pretty good. It seemed as if they'd experience fighting against other students.
"«Lightning—another!"
"Keep your skill away, Brave!"
Yet again, I was timely interrupted.
"Ugh, none of the attacks are hitting!"
"Well, yeah. Can't let such a big thing hit me. Besides, there would be an arrow flying my way if I... stop!"
"But at least we can bind you here."
"Truly a pinch. That paper-fan girl has an excellent sense when to attack me."
"......It's Remi-chan, not paper-fan girl. And she's excellent, much better!"
"It seems so!"
Amidst our conversation, Addie and Remi continued to target me.
I also responded while dodging, and formulated the steps for the situation soon to come.
The CD for the fourth order skill had yet to end. But, «Forest Monarch» was also just a bit short before its duration ended. I just need to wait for buff to lift up, and—then It will be my counterattack!
"Hmm, why aren't you retaliating?"
"Well, I wonder why?"
"Are you thinking it's not worth it against us?"
"Not at all. I am just figuring out the window for it."
"You know how to joke. Given your performance earlier, that should... have been a ... piece of cake. Haaa——«Impact Guard»!"
"Hmm."
With nary a delay, Addie used the evasion killing two-phase skill from earlier the instant effect of «Forest Monarch» concluded. The switch was flawless, and... that had been a calculated move huh?
I was focusing entirely on dodging, my body ready to leap away at any moment. It would be a bit tight to defend against it.
I put forth my shield, and took the defensive stance while passing a signal.
"Got you!"
Almost suddenly, Addie shouted with a hint of joy. As long as she could crumble my posture, Remi-chan would make a suitable follow up... should've been her thought.
Albeit, they're not the only duo here. —I also have an ally here.
"—«Barrier Wall»!"
"Whaat!?"
"Great, Misato."
Misato, who had been staying outside of the barricade all this time, casted the barrier.
A wall appeared between me and Addie, and shrugged off the entire attack of her, even blocking the incoming arrow. I instinctively praised her.
Taking a quick glance at her, she was also flashing a 'V' sign, her wand facing in my direction.
I knew she would never fail, and she really did stand out perfectly.
Either way, now the clutch my opponent had been relying on had lost its effect. So, it was now my time to move.
"Now, are you preparared for the counterattack?!"
"Bring it!"
As Addie gripped the handle of her hammer tightly, taking on an interception stance, I fired my skill.
"——«Holy Sword»!"
"——«Power Strike»!"
I moved in an arc while closing the distance between us, meanwhile avoiding Remi's arrow, and intoned «Holy Sword». Yet, she still managed to move the hammer my way, despite the less space to move it in short distance. Truly a talent, eh.
But, this was the fourth order skill, it was undefendable.
I was just sure when—
——The changes occurred as suddenly as a lightning strike in clear weather.
"Huh?"
"Ahh!"
A familiar teleportation circle emerged beneath Addie's feet. It was the forced deportation magic circle, but... she still had HP left.
"Kyaa——"
"No—"
Nevertheless, Addie, and Remi, both were instantly captured by the teleportation circle and vanished from the spot.
My sword cut through empty air, feedbacking a desolate sensation.
"——Err, what just happened, Zephyr-kun?"
Similarly confused about the situation, Misato turned to inquire.
I had an inkling as to what it could be, and shrugged my shoulders... that was the only reaction I could give.
"Ah, no way it happened now. ......I was just about to finally make a comeback too."
No, I mean, seriously serious. Why did it happen just as I was about to light up the torch of retaliation with «Holy Sword», no? This was just too cruel of a timing!
"Zephyr-kun?"
"Huh, ahh, yes. I didn't do anything. Let's check out Class-2's base. Everything would come to light then.”
A sight was worth more than a thousand words after all.
Since the blockades had disappeared, I switched our next action to meet with other members. I chugged a «MP Hi-Potion» while beelining toward the base with Misato.
Soon, in the south and behind the mountain, Class-2's base swiftly jumped into our vision. Albeit, there was something strange about it.
"Hey, hey, hey. What the heck?"
It was a surprising sight. The base of Class-2 had sunk under the effort of a azure scarf wearing squad, a sticker labelling 'Class-24' attack to their chest.
But most of all, what the heck happened to the <Best of the Best, the Great Star> who had said so enthusiastically that they would bring down souvenirs!!?
