Chapter 9: Training Camp
Chapter 9: Training Camp
I walked around the academys market, where senior students sold their leftover weapons or items they had picked up in a mission.
Amongst this junk was a weapon that would be perfect for me. Every day I have come here for an hour or two to try and find the weapon in question.
I went and looked at every sword. The one I was looking for had a red blade and a white handle. It looked like a cursed sword, and it was one. So there weren't a lot of people desperate enough to buy a cursed sword. While cursed weapons might be strong, they are likely to kill their user before any demon would get the chance.
In the future, the sword would be picked up by a student who was about to be kicked from the Exorcist Academy. Then after getting the sword, he would graduate due to the power it gave him, and he would be a good exorcist for a while before starting to kill innocent people too.
I searched all over the place, even the smaller hidden markets. I didn't find anything, which was a bit disheartening.
But this was how it was for someone who wasn't the main character. Just because you wanted something didn't mean I could get it. While I knew the sword would be here to be found by that senior student, there was no information about when it would come here. As far as I knew, maybe the sword was put on the market the day the student came to buy it.
It was already Saturday, and last night I had barely been able to sleep. Thankfully I had Ord exhaustion to help me out with that, or I would have stayed up all night.
Today I was giving the market one last look, but despite all that, there were no new weapons. The katana I already had from the Dark Sword Clan was enough for now, and better than most usable weapons I could get from the school's market.
Since there was no cursed sword, I ended up buying some blades, poisons, and explosion talismans. After that, I walked outside into the grassy fields.
Everyone else, and four teachers were waiting for us. Each of those teachers was someone who taught one different affinity to the first years.
I went and walked to Bets' side. "Which one of the teachers do you think is the strongest?"
In my last life, there were a lot of discussions about how powerful a shonen character was.
"Professor Chain looks the strongest," Bets answered without an ounce of hesitation. Just hearing his growling whisper, made some people decide to back off.
This kind of behavior gets old really fast. With how long Bets had to deal with it, it's a miracle he hadn't turned into the person the people were looking at him as.
"Well, he is probably the strongest teacher," I agreed with him. "Though battles between exorcists can sometimes be weird. Some abilities have strange limitations, and some abilities can counter others."
Saying any more than this would be suspicious. Professor Chain wasnt someone who exposed his Exorcist Ability to others since it had a huge weakness. But the ability was quite overpowered when fighting against demons.
"Okay, now the journey will start. You dumb bastards follow me," with that said professor Chain started running. We all followed along. "Also, if any of you speak, there will be severe punishments. We will travel to the nearby Haunted Forest, and by its name, you can guess what kind of place it is. I don't want to not notice an attack just because some dumbasses kept talking too much."
His strut soon became a full sprint, and we all followed along. Without vital energy leaking, we had stamina levels that barely fell.
Though I noticed some people smirking victoriously at Agon. Expecting him to fall behind since he couldn't sense and contain his Ord.
Well, the joke is on them.
Dumbasses, they dont know he is the main character. In front of him, youre all trash.
We continued running for hours, with the teacher being silent. No one else dared to even speak. They listened to the sounds of the wild.
Many of the students had started breathing heavily by now. Me too. The teachers still looked well and weren't even breathing heavily. The four teachers coming with us weren't strong in the general gist of things, especially with the later-on enemies. But for now, they had better control of their Ord, and the difference showed.
Though amongst students, there was one who wasn't tired at all. He was just staring forward while running and keeping an even breath.
Amongst the people here. Teachers included. Agon had the highest endurance, even without being able to sense his Ord. That was a fact.
By comparison, the people who had snickered before were worse than trash. What gave them the confidence to laugh at the main character?
Thats like asking death to come and give you a late-night visit. On this trip, those guys will probably die horrible deaths.
After some time running at full sprint, my lungs felt like they were burning. My arms felt heavy, and my feet were like noodles. Fatigue had finally caught up to almost every student.
Seeing this, the teachers had us set up camp. We started preparing the tents. But I wasn't putting too much effort into them.
This could be fun. I have never been camping before, said some poor sod.
Professor Chain smelled that someone was having fun. He rushed toward the students who had finished building their tent and kicked it down. Then he continued to stomp on it just for extra measure. You will be training here! Stop acting like shit stains!
As soon as he finished saying that. His head swished to the side, with a serious look in his eyes. Immediately my body tensed. This wasnt something he would do out of nowhere.
Had the scenario started playing sooner? With everyone gathered here would be both an advantage and a disadvantage.
Shit! Had my presence already changed things-
"Come out," professor Chain stared intently. A white aura hung around his body like floating water. That was Ord, being expressed outwardly, which increases physical stats and defenses. Though you needed some Warrior affinity of at least 30% to use Ord that way.
With that activated, if a normal human took a hit, no matter how weak the attacker was, the hit would be critical.
"I haven't seen humans in a long time," the stench of blood permeated through the air.
An ugly beast with a large body like a cow came out of the forest. It had tusks and the face of a human, which looked like it had been stitched on.
Bile rose up my throat. Seeing something like this in a Manga was different from real life. But my fear of death overwhelmed my disgust, and I didn't take my eyes off the dangerous creature.
Even with the teachers here. Mistakes could happen. Also, this was a demon I hadn't seen in the original story, so it might have some kind of special ability.
Six chains manifested out of the teacher's back. His eyes were cold, and within less than a second like snakes the chains surrounded the demon.
Its weird cow-like physique didn't seem to impede the demon's movements. As it jumped up, one of its eyes that felt weirdly like a sentient human eye fell out of the creature's head.
As soon as it landed on the ground, blades of grass rose up like swords. The blades started shooting out toward us.
"It's targeting the students!" Yelled out a muscular man, who was the warrior teacher. He was in front of us within a split second and punched at the ground. Generating a minor tremor and cracking the ground. Disrupting whatever spell was causing the blades of grass to sprout out like that.
Cold sweat drenched my neck when I noticed that I wasn't fast enough to even react to the attacks. Immediately my mind went to try and activate my special ability, but I stopped myself.
The teachers should be able to handle this
probably.
