Chapter 1575: The Dark Side of the Moon

Ning stood up from his seat as everyone began walking away from their own seats as well. He was surprisingly free to go from the place as long as he didn't leave the city itself.

As he walked away, Redaime quickly walked up to him and patted him on the back. "Good work," she said softly.

"Thanks," Ning said. "Were you caught off guard by this as well?"

"A little," she said. "I was the one who got to question the criminals, and I had to pass along the information to the Major General."

Ning sighed. "Does he hate me or something? Why was he so aggressive? It was like he wanted me to be a criminal."

Redaime smiled slightly, an almost sad smile. "It's the exact opposite actually," she said.

Ning stopped and looked at her with narrowed eyes. He did not believe that at all. There was no chance that the man who had screamed at him so much didn't wish for him to be a criminal. Redaime saw Ning's confusion. "It's true," she added. "The Major General did not want you to be part of the crime, which was why he was so aggressive. You are a hero to the military for what you've done the last few weeks."

"Getting rid of the makers of Dust, something that no one had figured out how it was being done is an impressive task. You are a person to be celebrated. Your existence proves that the military isn't all bad as many of the people have begun saying."

"So, when he learned that you may have been a major part of the crime itself, he was frustrated. And so, intentionally or not, he took that frustration out on you."

"You can see how he changed toward the end as you verbally disproved all of the claims," she said.

Ning thought for a bit and realized that she may have been correct. "I see. I didn't think of it like that," he said.

Redaime nodded. "Still, you should've told me you could turn things into Dust," she said.

"Yeah, I was afraid Harper would've stopped me from completing the mission if she found out. She was the one I was reporting to at the time after all. I decided to wait until I was done to report, but then things got out of hand."

Redaime smiled. "You keep surprising me."

"Thanks. I will continue to do so."

Ning left the courtroom and made his way back to his place. Since he was still under investigation, he would receive no reward or promotion for any of what he had done.

Also, he was suspended for the time being until the final verdict was given on his case.

Since Ning had nothing to do, he returned to his home and just sat around.

He felt bored immediately, having nothing to do. He could go to meet Katie, but she would be working at the moment too. What else could he do?

'That thing,' he remembered. 'What happened to my body back there?'

He wondered about the effects of Spark he had felt in his body. Was that something important? He decided to find out.

Ning went to the Spark shop to buy a bunch of Spark to experiment with but was told that he couldn't buy any. There was a ban on him for purchasing Spark, and anyone who sold him some would be punished as well.

Ning wondered if he should ask Redaime and see what she would say, but upon further thought, he decided not to do so. He returned back to his room without any Spark.

Of course, that did not mean he was giving up. Why the hell would he?

Ning teleported to the surface of the moon on the other side, which was now in the nighttime, facing the vastness of space with only stars glittering brightly in the sky.

The reason he had come to this side of the moon had been very simple. It was to not get seen by people who may have been working on that side.

Everyone always left the cities to go to the top. They may leave dozens of kilometers from where they surfaced, but they wouldn't go more than that. It was simply too dangerous to leave any more than that as the Teleporter would have a hard time saving them should something bad happen to them.

As such, the possibility of them going to the very other side of the moon was simply impossible.

Ning rested for a bit, sitting on a bed of Spark as he stared at the sky. He breathed in the very thin air of the moon, which consisted of absolutely nothing but gases that were produced by the few volcanoes that were around the moon.

The moon was as large as a planet, so it had a molten core within it.

Ning took a handful of Spark from the side and breathed it in. He sucked in a large amount of Spark that immediately turned into blazing hot power inside of him, waiting for him to use it in some form.

However, Ning wasn't going to use it now. He was going to wait and observe. What he was doing now, if done by a random person, would make them Sparkless within moments.

But his body was too good for that. It would take a while before that happened to him if it ever did.

Ning closed his eyes and waited for whatever was happening inside him to continue happening. His body told him that something was trying to change some part of him, so he tried to find out what it was exactly.

Ning could have searched on the System for what it was, but finding it on his own gave him a feeling of accomplishment that could never be replaced by asking the system for help.

He continued observing what was happening, but even after a long time passed, he couldn't tell exactly what the Spark was attempting to do to his body. He had no idea what its target

was.
