Chapter 417: Morning Chat With Iris
It was very early in the morning, and the sun was about to rise. Raphael and Iris were snuggling in bed after their first night, embracing one another with warmth. The smiles on their faces showed how happy and satisfied they were.
In the beginning of their copulation, Raphael failed to make her come before him. Instead of being disheartened, Raphael took it as a challenge to improve himself. From that moment on, in the next rounds, Raphael gradually caught up with Iris until they eventually came together.
But Raphael did not take it as a competition since he actually did not have to. He was spending a wonderful night with his beloved woman, and he wanted to enjoy every second with love and passion.
"Hey, Iris, I want to ask something."
"What is it, Raphael? You can ask me anything."
Fully naked under the warm quilt, Raphael called her name. In response, Iris smiled as she strolled her index and middle fingers on his chest, imitating a walking figure.
"I'm sorry for bringing this up at this moment, but I am quite curious. You said that you have been rebirthing yourself because you want to know about these otherworlders. Have you met any of them?"
When Raphael asked her that intriguing question, Iris looked up at him and met his eyes. She then stopped moving her fingers and started caressing his chest instead.
"Well, I started noticing these special individuals around two thousand years ago from their phenomenal feats on this continent. Unfortunately, it was too late for me to realize it, and I was not able to interact with that person of that era."
"Two thousand years... Was it the First Pope and the founder of the Primaria Theocracy?"
"Yes, it's the First Pope. I heard that he did some miracles one after another. But in my perspective at that time, I did not find it special and considered him as a special person who can do things better than others. It was until five hundred years later when I found out that it was a big deal."
"I see. The pattern had become noticeable, so I could not blame you if you realized it late. Better late than never. So was the next otherworlder the demon lord that terrorized half the continent, I suppose?"
"You seemed to know as well. When he existed, the demons immediately became the most dominant race on the continent. So when I looked up at him, I confirmed with my eyes that he indeed had a Reincarnator title in his stats."
"So did you get in contact with him?"
Raphael was a bit jealous when Iris took an interest in someone else, so he unconsciously asked that natural question. Iris noticed the meaning of his words, but she deliberately ignored it as she found it adorable.
"Just because he was an otherworlder did mean that I have to favor him. From what I had observed, he was an arrogant brat who was full of himself, and I did not find him worth my time. For that reason, I avoided any form of encounter with him under any circumstances, even if I had to let him conquer the continent."
"... That was mean of you."
When he heard her answer, Raphael inwardly let out a sigh of relief. But he was genuinely concerned for the people who suffered from the demons due to the absence of Iris's intervention when she had the opportunity to. That made him think that Iris did not care about anything around her.
"Yeah, it really left a bad aftertaste in my mouth, but it already happened and there's nothing I could do. Well, aside from his attitude, he was somewhat weak in today's standards, around Level 600s."
"I read that he was an evolved demon, a Demon Lord, which could be achieved if a demon reached Level 600, so it probably was the source of his arrogance and superiority complex."
"Yeah, he only gained dominance because the average human warriors at that time were relatively weak compared to the humans of today. He barely gained levels after he evolved."
"He was really full of confidence, thinking he could overwhelm his enemies with a handicap."
"Because of that, they were having a hard time dealing with the holy knights that were defending the area around the unconquered Imperial Dungeon, even when the demon territory reached the foot of the Rashi mountain ranges. After hundreds of years of siege, the demons finally overcame the humans and took full control of the area."
(So it was kind of similar to the Fall of Constantinople against the Ottoman Empire.)
Contrary to his comparison, the humans defended the dungeon for hundreds of years, unlike the weeks of Ottomans sieging the city of Constantinople. The reason for that was because the humans had cultivated the Safe Areas of the dungeon to supply the defenders.
They also built a few towns inside the dungeon to produce more warriors to help with the defense. However, in the end, the demons still managed to breach the dungeon and defeat the humans, taking control of the
"That took them quite a long time. But taking the dungeon that late was not a good thing for them. Since the demon lord was not that strong enough, he failed to conquer the dungeon."
"Indeed. He valued his life so much that, from what I heard, he refused to challenge the Dungeon Boss himself because his resurrection was not guaranteed if he died, so he sent his best warriors to conquer it. After losing them all, he eventually stopped thinking of capturing it."
A regular dungeon floor could accommodate countless challengers, but the Domain Guardian and Dungeon Boss rooms were only limited to a party of six people at a time.
The demon lord was the most powerful demon at that time, and he knew he could not defeat the Boss alone, even in a party. For that reason, he sent his most elite men to capture the dungeon for him, but they all failed.
"The standards of average strength were still the same until the next five hundred years."
"So the existence of the next Reincarnator, the founder and the first emperor of the Empire of Dixon, Alfred Dixon."
"Yes, because of his strength and leadership, humanity was able to push back the oppressors. The demon lord ultimately faced the hero. Because the hero was equipped with the most powerful moveset that he got from the Goddess, he defeated and killed the demon lord."
When the topic of the hero came up, Raphael noticed that Iris had been averting her eyes from him and was smiling as if she felt the nostalgia. Raphael had mixed feelings about it, so he asked her for confirmation.
"You seemed to have known a lot about the first emperor, Iris. Did you interact with him in the past?"
"Well, out of all the otherworlders I have met before you so far, Alfred was the one I could say I was closest to. His attitude was a lot better than the previous one, and he was approachable."
"So what was your relationship with him?"
"How should I say this? We were just friends, I guess? Nothing more, nothing less. I don't want to make you feel bad or down, but Alfred was actually...my first love."
