Chapter 99 The Search For Lucky
3 days later after the battle on Palm Island.
-----
You have triggered passive ability: Marksman
----
As soon as the passive ability triggered, Legolas felt his confidence increasing as his aim with the bow and arrow became even clearer to him.
He took Christensen's make-shift bow and arrow and went out to hunt.
As soon as he was ready, he released the arrow.
Whoosh!
The Wild Boar grunted in pain as soon as the arrow lodged deep into it's thick hide. Adrenaline flooded the beast's body as it tried to escape but Legolas was not having it as he put in another arrow and shot.
He did this 2 times, shooting 3 arrows in just a few seconds.
The Wild Boar was only able to escape for a few meters before collapsing on the island in a pool of its own blood.
Legolas came down from his hideout to get his game.
After picking the Wild Boar, he returned to their hideout where he put the meat on the burning fire to roast it into something delicious and eatable.
A few dozen minutes later, the meat was ready.
Legolas dug in without hesitation as he invited his student. "Hey, Chris, dig in before it gets cold".
"Oh, ok". Christensen replied absentmindedly.
As Christensen bit down on the meat and started eating, a lot of thoughts went through his mind. 'I'm so useless, why am I still so down despite 3 days having passed already?'
The guilt of the disaster on Palm Island still had not left him yet, it haunted him and he could not bring himself to simply forget it.
Due to his actions, lots of warriors and civilians in his home died.
The guilt was so piercing that he could barely concentrate to even meditate these days, it was killing him from the inside.
Amid his chaotic thoughts, Legolas interrupted.
"You know, I'm glad that you're feeling this way".
"At least, it'll make me feel relieved that I didn't take an emotionless murderer in as my student, I'm glad you're like this".
"Is this the price for power?" Christensen interrupted before Legolas could continue as he looked at his master hoping for his answers.
Legolas looked back at Christensen before nodding his head slightly. "Yes, you can say this is the price for power".
"You know, in this super world, you either get power or you're left behind or even worse killed. Without power, you and I will be long dead".
"Without power, you'd have died on your first time returning to Palm Island. Without power, we'd have all died to the assassination attempt of the Clown Society, power is an integral part of our world to stay human".
"You know, I have a self-rule for myself, a self-rule to never regret".
"At this moment, I know you're regretting what ifs. What if you were not greedy? What if you didn't take a fancy to the Shadow Hound?"
"In life, you get to take it as the world comes at you. There are no absolutes, every decision that you make, don't regret it, just learn from it".
"Nothing is set in stone. There are infinite possibilities of every decision that you take in life, if you decide to think about them all, you'll die before you do anything, there's just too many variables".
"Who knows, perhaps if you didn't even go for the Shadow Hound, another disaster would have befallen Palm Island".
"You seeking power was not wrong, your lack of power was your wrong".
"Next time, try to get power enough to prevent something like this from happening. Own it, swallow the guilt and get better from it".
"Just remember this, don't ever regret your life choices".
Legolas chuckled the next moment. "I don't even know why I'm saying this, take my words with a pinch of salt, they may just be nonsense babbling".
"Afterall, we all came to live different lives".
Christensen looked Legolas in the eyes. "Is seeking power a good enough reason to warrant so many lives dying for my single decision?"
"I…" Legolas was short of words. "I don't know, really".
"You'll have to answer that question yourself".
"What I do know is that not even trying to make a decision because of a fear of its consequences is the mentality of a coward"
Legolas patted his student. "Don't give up on yourself Chris".
"Just try your best like you did this time to salvage any situation that you cause. One day, you'll become powerful enough to control anything".
Christensen was finally able to force a smile. "Thanks master".
"No worries kiddo".
"Roar!"
"Not you kiddo". Legolas scratched his head and laughed.
For the next 2 hours, Christensen took his time going through what Legolas said to him. Legolas didn't know his conclusion but what he knew was that Christensen indeed concluded on something as he finally stood up.
"So, what next?" Christensen asked.
"You already got your 2nd contracted beast, don't you think it's time to give it a name?"
Christensen looked down at the Shadow Hound that caused him so much problem, then he laughed. "You know, as a kid, I always wanted a dog pet".
"Since you caused me so much trouble and guilt, I want to give you a name like Lucifer but I can't bring myself to, you're my contracted beast now".
"I'll name you Brutus".
"Brutus is it then". Legolas clapped to commemorate this moment.
Christensen rubbed the Shadow Hound's fur affectionately though the stubborn fellow tried to resist. Brutus was now his contracted beast and obeyed him unconditionally, but it still had its own personality.
The Hound's resistance amused Christensen, he chuckled. "Don't worry, one day, I'll win you over, just wait".
He turned to face his master again. "So, what next?"
"We find Lucky". Legolas sighed in exasperation.
Legolas gritted his teeth as he suddenly remembered something. "Despite sensing through our telepathic connection that I was in danger and close to death, that mother*cker really didn't give a damn".
"I'll show you when I find you". Legolas clenched his fists angrily.

You have activated active ability: Beast Plane Summoning
----
Christensen, Legolas, and their beasts jumped in through the rainbow bridge.
On arriving at the other side, what Legolas saw shocked the freaking soul out of him as he jumped in shock. "Lucky…?"
Legolas looked at his pet's back in shock. "Who are these?"
