Chapter 28: The hardest thing is to repay a beauty’s kindness

“Mr. Piers? Are you here to see Ruby? Please come in.” Lincoln Green, seeing Brandon Piers, ignored what Abigail had just said, enthusiastically inviting him in.
He completely forgot that he was no more than this man’s future father-in-law.
Lincoln may not have caught it, but Rose Taylor and her daughter heard clearly. Did that fat bitch say she had a video? Impossible! But if not, how could she dare to speak so openly?
In the midst of their anxious hearts, Brandon Piers had already entered the sickroom.
Ruby Green’s eyes were instantly attracted to the dignified, handsome man. “Second Young Master, you’re here.”
Trying to sit up, her once pale face immediately turned rosy. Her pretty face was filled with the bashfulness of a girl in love.
However, Brandon Piers didn’t spare Ruby Green a glance. Instead, he looked at Ben and Mark who were huddled in the corner. “Police officers?”
Ben and Mark immediately stood straight. They had heard rumors about the Second Young Master in their department. The outside world appraised the Piers’ golden boy as an honor-bound gentleman of unparalled beauty, albeit a weak one. But they had heard from superiors that his frailty was real, and so was his ruthless and savage nature.
Before the Piers’ main business had moved entirely to Swallow City, this Second Young Master, at seventeen, had personally sent his uncle and two cousins to prison with cold-blooded resolve, not to mention those he had secretly injured or maimed.
A man who, despite his frailty, could prop up such a vast business empire with his scholarly grace, was not fooling anyone.
The two junior officers, looking at Brandon Piers before them, suddenly remembered an old saying, ‘The beauty’s grace is hardest to repay.’
“Oh, misunderstanding, misunderstanding. I’ll escort you two out. Abigail, go and make some tea for your brother-in-law. Ruby, keep Brandon company.” Lincoln Green dared not guarantee the smooth progress of the marriage after the Greens had already made a fool of themselves in front of Brandon Piers once and had involved the police again.
As for who was in the wrong, it didn’t matter.
After all, Lincoln Green was a businessman.
Before Ben and Mark could recover from Brandon Piers’ intimidating aura, they were being dismissed and walked out of the room in a daze.
Brandon Piers glanced at Abigail, whose speech had been interrupted, then suddenly said, “Wait a moment.”
Lincoln Green’s steps froze. Ben and Mark, still in a state of confusion, turned around stupidly, looking at the refined young man who clearly sat on the sofa, yet controlled the entire situation.
“What can I do for you, Second Young Master?” Lincoln Green asked nervously.
“What are you here for?” Brandon Piers ignored Lincoln and turned his amber eyes to Ben.
Ben’s body shivered as though a beam of cold light had struck him. “We received a call. Someone has assaulted Mrs. Green and Miss Green, causing serious bodily harm.”
“Really?” Brandon Piers finally deigned to look at Lincoln after raising an eyebrow.
Lincoln had intended to suppress this matter and deal with Abigail later to minimize the damage to the Green family’s reputation. But he hadn’t expected Brandon Piers to intervene, leaving him no choice but to nod stiffly.
“So it seems that someone did try to harm my fiancée.” For the first time since he arrived, Brandon Piers turned his gaze towards Ruby Green.
Ruby Green’s eyes sparkled excitedly, particularly at the sentence about someone trying to harm his fiancée, which nearly made her head spin. “Second Young Master, I…had nothing to do with this.”
As Abigail was wondering about Brandon Piers’ intentions, Ruby Green already soaked her with a bucket of dirty water. A round face lifted, the peach-blossom eyes widened in what seemed like a question for Ruby Green. Are you serious?
Brandon Piers found the fat girl’s reaction amusing, but his eyes turned serious. “Boss Green, is what Ruby’s saying true? Do you have evidence?”
“This…yes.” Lincoln Green was in a dilemma, but with Brandon Piers standing up for Ruby, he could only sacrifice Abigail, both for the sake of his public and private interests.
“I have evidence as well.” Abigail watched her father, her eyes suddenly turned cold.
Rose Taylor on the bed and Ruby Green stiffened. Was that fat bitch bluffing again?
But they quickly calmed down. So what if the fat girl had evidence? The Second Young Master was on their side!
