“What’s going on? What’s all this commotion?” Lincoln Green heard Diana Edith’s cry of pain and rushed upstairs.
Rose Taylor glared at Abigail, “It’s nothing, just an accident. Aunt Edith was cleaning Abigail’s room and accidentally fell. Abigail, you were not scared, were you?”
The words were of concern, but her eyes contained a firm warning.
“Uh-huh.” Abigail nodded quietly, having lowered her head.
Lincoln Green was never fond of this attitude of Abigail, but looking at her daughter who distressed herself about him, he unusually didn’t lose temper, “Eat your meal after cleaning.”
“It will be done soon.” Rose answered.
Abigail concealed her displeasure, she gently tugged on her father’s clothes, “Dad, I lost my wallet. If it weren’t for Mr. Pei…”
“Mr. Pei will be your brother-in-law in the future, it’s natural for him to help you.” Rose said without letting Lincoln Green speak.
“What if I run out of money for a fare next time? I know I’m a college student and shouldn’t always ask for money, but I eat a lot…” Abigail turned the topic awkwardly,” What would I do if someone else refuses to help me unlike Mr. Pei, next time?”
Lincoln Green was initially agreeing with Rose and thinking that he could just get a new card issued as Abigail lost her card, but after hearing Abigail, he frowned, “You are Miss Green. Since when do we need to borrow money from others?”
After he finished, his darkened eyes landed on Rose. Usuallt, Abigail’s living expenses were managed by Rose. Although Abigail didn’t point it out directly just now, she implied that her allowance was not enough.
Rose clenched her teeth secretly, thinking this fat bitch did it on purpose? “Husband, it’s my fault. Abigail is grown up now and her expenses have increased. Not a problem, I will get the phone and card reissued for her right away and add ten thousand to her allowance from next month. What do you think?”
After listening, Lincoln Green nodded.
Abigail muttered to herself, old fox, full of self-blame in her voice, “Dad, don’t add it. Please, don’t blame Aunt. I’ll eat less from now.”
Lincoln Green who was nodding disapprovingly right now, said, “Just a girl, how much can she eat? Can’t even my Green family afford it? Where can I place my face if others come to know that Lincoln Green cannot afford it?”
“Add twenty thousand and get it re-issued right now.” Lincoln Green said, deciding it immediately.
Abigail couldn’t hide the smile on her face. When she noticed that Diana Edith had stood up again, she quickly went forward and held Diana Edith who lost her balance because of Abigail’s hold on her injured wrist, “Aunt Edith, do take it easy.”
“Ah, you cheap bitch!”
“Aunt Edith, I…I didn’t mean it…” Instantly, Abigail’s face was streaming with tears.
Feeling extremely wronged.
Lincoln Green was not very far, upon hearing Diana Edith’s insult, he rushed over angrily and kicked Diana Edith, “Who are you scolding?”
No matter how much he hated his daughter Abigail, she was indeed his own daughter. He couldn’t let his daughter be bullied by a maid. Imagining Abigail’s recent reactions, he thought that this was certainly not the first time Diana Edith had messed with her!
“Ah…Master…” Diana Edith hadn’t recovered from the pain in her wrist and was thrown on the ground again. She looked at the furious Lincoln Green, her previous arrogance was gone, and she murmured ‘master’, while trying to endure the severe pain.
“You always treat Abigail like this?” Lincoln Green’s middle-aged face showed doubt.
If she could bully Abigail like this in front of him, he didn’t want to imagine what she might have done behind his back. It was no wonder that she treated Abigail like a beggar and didn’t allow her to come in today.
“I… I didn’t… Master, it’s a misunderstanding!”
“Get out!”
“Lincoln, don’t be mad. Aunt Edith doesn’t usually behave like this. It’s just that Abigail broke her wrist, and she fell hard when she came into the room just now, which led her to speak without choosing words.” Rose rushed over and patted Lincoln’s back to smooth the situation.
After finishing, she held Lincoln’s hand and coaxed, “Aunt Edith has been in the Green family for many years, don’t you know her? If anything, just dispatch her to the company’s logistics department. You also know that Aunt Edith is a relative from my aunt’s side…”
“Hmph, I don’t want to see this old thing again.”
Lincoln Green turned and left. Following Rose’s signal, Diana Edith followed him quickly, “Darling, I’ll make your favorite braised pork belly in a while. I hope you are not too upset…”
Watching her father leave, Abigail couldn’t help but feign a smile. This father really was not a good one. Rose wooed him with just a few words and he left his humiliated daughter behind.
Hehe.
Fortunately, it wasn’t completely fruitless, at least her finance was not controlled by Rose and her daughter anymore.
However, it might not be the same in the future. She needed to figure out a way to survive on her own.
Thinking about all this, Abigail started tidying up her messy room. As a doctor, she had a slight OCD. After arranging everything in an hour, she found an old decorative tin box under the bed.
Abigail searched in the previous owner’s memory but found only a vague recollection. This was left by her mother for the previous owner who had always hidden it.
When she opened it, she found an old Nokia mobile phone, and a couple’s photo.
Abigail charged up the phone, and picked up the faded old photo. Lincoln Green in the photo was still young, tall and handsome, and the woman next to him could be described as stunningly beautiful.
Even through the photo, her extraordinary beauty was obvious. It was comparable to the Hong Kong movie stars of the eighties and nineties.
Was this her original mother?
Abigail looked at her face in the mirror again, and put down the box disappointedly, turning on the phone.
Beep beep beep…
As soon as she turned it on, several messages poured in, all saying, “Hello, Miss Green, we are Midsummer Trust. According to the commission of Mrs. Minnie Swift, all her shares transfer to your name automatically after you turn eighteen Please confirm.”
Abigail, “…”
Shares?
Only then did Abigail realized there was a black gold card under the photo. After considering for a while, she dialed the bank and heard the mechanical reply from the other side, “Sorry, the balance in your account is too large to inquire. Please bring your ID card to the VIP counter of the bank for service.”
Large amount?
Abigail laughed, she thought she was a poor ghost, but she turned out to be a hidden rich man.
