Rebirth: Over the Horizon

Chapter 57 - The Ocean (2)

While everyone's eyes we're sticking to the powerful monster before them which gives them an ominous feeling.

Medusa quickly swims past the gap between the two ships and wreck's the enemy ship.

Only after a few seconds does the huge ship sink in water simultaneously the whirlpool also disappears.

Medusa gives Adam a bow and slowly dissipates in the air before disappearing.

[Dark Summon:Medusa››› Lv:2]

[You can summon her without using any Mana until she losses her HP and goes to recovery stare]

Adam slowly got up took out the arrow from his thigh and drank the Healing potions.

"How many casualties?"

"3 dead 7 seriously injured and 15 lightly hurt," Captain dura says with a frown.

Adam digests the situation and gives healing potions proportional to their injuries.

The crew quickly recovers and starts to patch up and repair the ship.

But, the ship was not moving because there wasn't any wind blowing in the direction which is enough to make the ship move.

Just as he was thinking about how to resolve this problem he sees Captain Dura walking towards him.

"I can get us moving again," Dura says hesitantly. "But what I do has to be kept a secret."

Dura plants her feet firmly upon the deck and bows her head. Her black hair hangs over her green face as she begins to chant.

She raises both of her hands in the air and lifts her face to the sky.

Adam spots clouds beginning to form overhead.

'Impossible a Weather Mage!?'

Adam realises that half-orc sea captain is a Weather Mage!

She has an affinity with weather type magic! A hidden one.

The clouds gather and darken, and then the wind starts.

The sails grow taut, and the Epiphany begins to move again. Dura stops chanting and begins ordering her crew about.

"Hum, why did you hide this fact?" Adam asked curiously.

"Seriously?" Dura says. "A half-orc spellcaster? We'll have to keep an eye on the crew now."

"They may decide to mutiny now that they know what I can do. They won't trust me not to call a typhoon or a tsunami down upon us."

Adam looks around the ship, but he doesn't see any of the crew members looking at Dura with anything but respect.

A sea captain who can control the weather is a great thing.

Why anyone will hate her?

"Do we return to Aconia, or press on?" Emily asks.

"Our damages can be repaired, and we've only lost a few crew members," Dura says.

"If we return, we'll risk losing the crew members we have, we'll have to repack the provisions, and we'll likely face pirates again."

"We should keep going, now that the pirates are dead. We'll be far enough from shore now that we shouldn't have any more trouble with raiders, at least not from Iconia."

The ship's carpenters work on the hull, and other crew members replace the damaged sails.

The broken rigging is retied, and slowly, the Epiphany starts to look seaworthy once again.

---

"Damn, we must have picked the hottest summer ever to make this bloody sea voyage," Adam says as she wipes rivers of sweat from her face.

"The sea does strange things," Captain Dura says. "We travel mostly east, but we also travel south enough to make the temperature rise."

The conversation is cut short when the air begins to ripple above the deck.

There's a splash in the water, and a silver chain soar over the deck of the ship and splash back into the water on the other side!

Another chain encircles the Epiphany from the other side.

Dozens of chains criss-cross the deck, and soon the ship is being held firmly in place.

Adam tries to use his magic to break the chain but it does not affect it.

'Nowadays, it seems like my magic is becoming useless'

Just as he was thinking, the body of a man breaks the surface off to starboard.

He has a very muscular build, and his skin has a slightly bluish tinge to it.

Looking below the water, adam sees that he has a fish's tail.

He's holding a Trident over his head and shakes it angrily.

A few more merpeople come up as well, both male and female, and they're all armed with Tridents and shields.

"These waters are sacred!" one of them says in a heavily accented and archaic form of the common tongue.

"You shall bloat here, and the sun shall bleach your bones until your ship rots and sinks to the bottom of the sea in tribute to the Sunken God."

When Emily tried to communicate with them in her language, they gave a disgusting look to her and submerged into the sea without saying a word.

A few minutes pass but, no one can seem to destroy the chains "Who is this sunken God." Adam asks Emily.

"He is our neighbourhood Lord, the devilfish, he calls himself sunken God."

"He has 8 hands and a lump of the mushroom-like head, he also casts a black smoke which makes him very powerful while fighting"

"He was also the one who gave angel nightshade to 1st prince in return for mere people"

"They have been brainwashed probably."

The waves break against the hull of the Epiphany as Adam sits stranded in the middle of the ocean with dozens of magical chains holding the ship firmly in place.

Adam looks over the side and down into the depths of the sea.

Emily rushes over the edge of the boat "I will swim over and take a look"

Adam stops her swiftly "You don't have any strength to attack or defend yourself, I should go down."

As he prepares to jump into the ocean Emily gives him a necklace that has a dark purple colour crystal on the centre of it.

"Use this, you can breathe freely under the ocean water"

[You have equipped mermaid's necklace]

[You can breathe freely underwater]

[All the spells based on water affinity will have 30% more effect]
