Chapter 382 – “Are you saying that my mom only deserves to be with a man like your father?” (2)
Li XinYun took care of the foreign exchange student in the next few days as though nothing had happened.
She was outgoing and fluent in the foreign language. It didn’t take long for her and the exchange students to become close.
Liang AnQi, in particular, was always around Liang AnQi and acted like they were the best of buds. With her friendly manner, Li XinYun couldn’t possibly be unfriendly toward her.
Liang AnQi was, however, too obvious when it came to certain things.
For example, she would look sad every time a father came to drop off their children. She was cute and almost acted delicate, simple and naïve. She got along with Li XinYun’s classmates and a few boys were even quite fond of her. They couldn’t help but to comfort her whenever they saw that look on her.
Liang AnQi said to them, “I have a father but I might as well not have one. He divorced my mother a long time ago and all he cares about are my brother and sister. He never sees me now matter how well I do. He still likes my brother and sister better.
“My brother and sister don’t like me either. And I’ve already tried so hard to get close to them.
“I really hope that he could drop me off, even just once.”
There were even tears in her eyes when she said that. It was even more touching when a person who was normally optimistic showed her sad side. All the others felt sorry for her and comforted her.
“You are fairly outstanding already. It’s your father’s problem not seeing you. That’s why they said some people should never be parents. Having kids is more than just providing for them.”
“If they don’t love you, you should love yourself even more.”
“Your brother and sister are so awful. How could they treat their own sister like that? If only I had a sister as cute as you, I’d dote her to ninth heaven.”
Li XinYun’s lips twitched when she saw how outrageous her classmates felt for Liang AnQi. It was only normal that her brother and sister didn’t like her.
Who would like their father’s children born out of wedlock? And, if Mr. Liang was to dote on Liang AnQi, that would truly be unfair for the other two.
Li XinYun had an idea why Liang AnQi did what she did. Liang AnQi wanted her to relate to her. Li XinYun, too, had a scum for a father.
Albeit the fact that he had already passed away, it didn’t change the fact that he was a scum. Besides, sharing those feelings with the others would make them feel that she trusted them and brought them closer to her.
Sure enough, it didn’t take long for Liang AnQi to say to Li XinYun, “XinYun, we are so similar when it comes to that.
“Part of the reason that I have signed up to be a transfer student is because my mom is getting remarried.
“Even though my father was never nice to me, my mother had always doted on me and made up for what I didn’t get from my father. Unfortunately, ever since she got a new boyfriend, I am no longer the most important person to her. I am very distressed and decided to come to China to take a break from all that.”
She made herself sound like a pitiful little thing. It made others think that the outgoing side of her was just the front that she put up and they felt even more tender affection toward her.
Li XinYun said bluntly to her, “But think about the years of youth that your mother has sacrificed in bringing you up. Shouldn’t you be happy for her if she could find her own happiness? You are already 20 years old. Do you expect your mother to sacrifice her entire life for you? Isn’t that too selfish and too unfair for her?”
Li XinYun truly felt that Liang AnQi had gone above and beyond. She had “remarried” her mother just to maintain her character. Li XinYun felt for her mother and couldn’t help but retorted.
The other students who had been led astray by Liang AnQi also recollected themselves. Oh right, there was nothing wrong with what Li XinYun had said. Parents do have the rights to remarry and Liang AnQi was no longer a child.
The others, however, were not as direct as Li XinYun and they only comforted Liang AnQi tactfully, telling her to look on the bright side.
Liang AnQi was stunned. Everything that she had said was for the purpose of stirring up Li XinYun’s compassion and to bring the two of them closer with each other.
She had always felt that Li XinYun had been keeping her at a distance. She also wanted to broach the subject of a stepfather and warned Li XinYun as someone who had “been through it” to watch out for a stepfather taking away her mother’s attention.
As long as Li XinYun objected to it, Fang JunRong, who doted on her, would take Li XinYun’s feelings into consideration.
Then all Liang AnQi had left to do was to put some negative ideas about Jiang DeXian in Li XinYun’s mind and for sure Jiang DeXian and Fang JunRong would never become a couple then.
She wasn’t worried that they would find out the truth about her mother. Her mother, hurt romantically in China, would never return here again.
Liang AnQi still didn’t believe that Li XinYun was genuinely okay with the idea of having a stepfather. She couldn’t help but ask, “I’ve heard that you are from a wealthy family, XinYun. What if your stepfather is after your wealth?”
Li XinYun said calmly, “Have you never heard about a prenuptial agreement?”
Liang AnQi, “What if he isn’t nice to your mother?”
Li XinYun said, “They can always get a divorce and she can find someone even better next time.”
Liang AnQi was speechless and the others also started to notice that something was off. Why was it that Liang AnQi cared so much about Li XinYun’s family affairs?
Li XinYun finally got tired of playing games with Liang AnQi. She had mellowed out a lot in the last few years but she was still that straightforward girl by nature. She looked straight at Liang AnQi and said, “Why do you keep talking about this?”
“I care about you because we are friends.”
Li XinYun pursed her lips. “Enough of that already. Didn’t you say that your father was not nice to you and all he cares about is your brother and sister? If your father is such a worthless guy in your opinion, why did you try to set him up with my mother previously? Are you saying that my mother only deserves someone like your father?”
Liang AnQi had no idea that Li XinYun knew about this and her face changed colors right away.
The look on the other students also became peculiar. Everybody at school knew that Li XinYun was the daughter of Fang JunRong, someone who was on the wealthy people list in the country. Did Liang AnQi try to set her father up with Fang JunRong so he could be a kept man?
