Chapter 69
Chapter 69: The Truth Revealed, The Heroine’s Tearful Breakdown
In the sky, as the formation expanded, endless thunderous energy converged towards its center, eventually materializing. With a terrifying roar, a blazing column of thunder and fire descended from the sky, obliterating the Ye Mansion in an instant.
“Hiss—!!!”
“Is this the power of a fairy?”
“Terrifying—!!!”
“Who would have thought that Mo Qingxue would become a immortal and return for revenge against Ye Xuan?”
“He had it coming.”
“He seemed afraid to show himself; could he have died inside?!!”
“Who knows.”
“It’s a pity, such a fine mansion, reduced to ruins in a blink.”
Mo Qingxue, hovering in the sky, frowned slightly as she looked down at the destruction below. She had once sworn to kill Ye Xuan… but now, she felt no joy in doing so.
“I once thought I would be happy to kill you… but now, I find myself feeling sad for you, haha…” As she gazed at the ruins, Mo Qingxue raised her hand to wipe away her tears, not realizing when they had started to wet her cheeks.
Despite everything that had happened, she should have been done with Ye Xuan, her hatred ingrained deep in her bones.
Yet, she felt her vulnerability. No matter how terribly Ye Xuan had treated her, the time they spent together was the happiest of her life, an undeniable truth even now.
If only Ye Xuan had treated her even a little bit better, she would have willingly given her life for him. Even if Ye Xuan had been a great villain, guilty of numerous misdeeds, she wouldn’t have cared.
But why—!!! Why did he have to hurt her, their innocent child—!!!
“My child… I don’t know if you were a boy or a girl, but I have avenged you… yet the one I avenged you against, is your own father… would you blame me?”
After drying her tears, Mo Qingxue slowly descended from the sky. Gazing at the remnants of what once was, her eyes held no joy, only endless sorrow.
Here, she had lived the happiest moments of her life. Yet, it was also here that she experienced the most despairing times.
———
Watching herself in the scene, Elder Qingxue internally sighed in relief. At least this time, she hadn’t spoken anything embarrassing like before.
However, she hadn’t expected that the entire incident about the child never really existed. It was all a trick, an illusion created by a fox spirit.
No matter how outrageously Ye Xuan had acted, even claiming he had killed her brother, she hadn’t been utterly hopeless. But the alleged loss of their child was something she could never forgive.
This was the main source of her hatred towards Ye Xuan. Yet now, she learned that the child had never existed at all.
Mixed feelings surged within her. If it wasn’t for that fox spirit’s deception, perhaps she and Ye Xuan would have never reached this point in their relationship.
However, this didn’t mean she would ever thank the fox spirit. If that fox spirit was still alive, Elder Qingxue vowed never to let her go. Her eyes flickered with a fierce resolve.
———
In the scene…
After a moment of contemplation, Mo Qingxue surveyed the ruins of the Ye Mansion several times, then her expression suddenly changed:
“No, no… Where is Ye Xuan’s soul?!! Why isn’t it here?!! Impossible… Could it be, he wasn’t at home?!!”
Her face, once filled with sentiment, now twisted into anger. Did she just waste her time spewing threats when Ye Xuan wasn’t even there to hear them? Frustrated, she decided she needed clarity.
With that thought, Mo Qingxue soared into the sky again, her eyes darting around the town. She then flew off in a specific direction.
Meanwhile, many in another part of Wuyuan Town remained oblivious to the events that had transpired at the Ye Mansion. After all, Wuyuan Town was not small.
In another large mansion, cries and wails echoed:
“Master, Master, why have you forsaken me—!!!”
“How can I live without you—!!!”
“Father, Father—!”
“Wu wu wu… Grandfather—!!!”
In the house, a family was mourning the death of a loved one, crying over the loss.
Mo Qingxue wasn’t there to attend a funeral. She concealed her presence, peeking inside the house. Inside, she saw an old man lying motionless on the bed, his face pale and lifeless, clearly deceased.
Then, a man silently entered the room, carrying a lantern. Despite his sudden appearance, nobody in the house seemed to notice him, as if he was invisible. Approaching the deceased old man, he said:
“Zhang Zonghuai, rise, your time in this world is over. Follow me to the path of the Yellow Springs.” As he spoke, a ghostly figure slowly sat up from the deceased body.
Seeing the lantern, the figure nodded vaguely and followed the man out. This entire scene was invisible to the living family members, but Mo Qingxue saw everything clearly.
She pondered for a moment. “Is this the world of the dead that one can see in the Spirit Insight Realm? It seems this man is a guide for the deceased to the Yellow Springs.”
Addressing the man with the lantern, Mo Qingxue called out, “Excuse me, sir.”
The man turned to her and replied, “Are you calling me?”
“Yes.” Mo Qingxue bowed respectfully, “I am Mo Qingxue and I have a question for you.”
“I am Lian You,” the man replied, returning the gesture.
“I wish to ask if you are the guide for all of Wuyuan Town’s deceased to the Yellow Springs.”
“That’s correct,” Lian You nodded.
“I want to know if you have received the soul of a man named Ye Xuan today?”
“No,” Lian You shook his head. “Today in Wuyuan Town, only this elderly man from the Zhang family has passed away. There have been no other deaths.”
“What about unnatural deaths? I mean… those not from natural causes, but killed by someone else?”
“There have been none.” Lian You replied, “Unless a soul is trapped by magic or shattered completely, I am aware of every death in Wuyuan Town. If you wish to know about Ye Xuan, I can check the Book of Life and Death for you.”
“Really? Can you do that?” Mo Qingxue was overjoyed but then hesitated, “Wouldn’t that trouble you?”
“Heh,” Lian You chuckled, “It’s just a small effort.” He waved his hand, and a dark book materialized in front of him. Holding the lantern in one hand, he started flipping through the floating book, presumably the Book of Life and Death.
“Hmm… According to this book, Ye Xuan is no ordinary person. His birth and death are both mysteries. It seems he is someone with a destiny related to immortality.”
“I can’t tell when he will die, but if he does, his name will appear here. Currently, there is no record of his death, so he should be alive.”
“What?!” Mo Qingxue’s eyes flashed with murderous intent. “How could someone like Ye Xuan have a fate with immortality?!”
“Lady, I need to guide Zhang Zonghuai to the Yellow Springs, so I must leave now,” Lian You said with a smile, noticing Mo Qingxue’s anger.
“Thank you for your help, Lian You,” Mo Qingxue quickly bowed in gratitude.
“Lady, though you can see the world of the dead in the Spirit Insight Realm, you are neither immortal nor a guide to the Yellow Springs. It’s best to avoid talking to us unless necessary, to protect your spirit,” Lian You advised before leaving with the spirit of Zhang Zonghuai.
“Thank you for the warning,” Mo Qingxue nodded, watching Lian You lead Zhang Zonghuai away.
She then brooded over the situation. If Ye Xuan, a person like him, could cultivate to immortality, then what justice is there in this world?
He must be cultivating as a great demon, she thought with contempt. But now, with Ye Xuan’s house destroyed, how would she find him? He might be hiding from her!
The more she thought, the more anxious she became. She had finally resolved to kill Ye Xuan, only to find an empty house.
“It seems I need to focus on improving my cultivation first… Lian You said that beast Ye Xuan has a destiny with immortality. As long as I work hard, one day I will catch him!”
