Chapter 2421: Defense



Chetan's group awaited the arrival of the forces.

Based on whatever Sam explained about the defensive measures, they are eager to try them out. Much like kids with new toys. Soon, they didn't have to wait anymore as they saw the signs of people coming.

The whole team had a disc each as they positioned themselves at different spots within the city. The city is surrounded from three sides. Except for two team members that are stationed on the fourth side along with its defensive measures, the remaining eight members are divided amongst these three sides.

The turrets that became mobile are being moved by mere thoughts and they are operated with large liquid energy capsules sponsored by yours truly.

Even before the opponents made their way to the city, they threw long range attacks. Fire balls, flaming serpents, lightning dragons, earth golems, spears and arrows... all of them rushed towards the city.

The alert mechanism activated when they reached the predetermined range. The bird puppets in the air changed their formation and opened their beaks. Sam tapped a few times on his tablet and they made their move as well.

*ZOOM**ZOOM**ZOOM*

The weird sound came from their beaks as the surrounding spiritual energy reacted in an unnatural way. From each bird puppet, energy started spreading out in ripple form with extreme force.

As the attacks came within that range, the rippled energy dispersed their force hindering their speed and reach. Some lower level attacks didn't even reach the barrier and collapsed. Some higher level attacks went past them, but they were negated by the barrier.

Sam raised an eyebrow, impressed by his own creations. This is also the first time he is testing them this live. He looked at the energy consumption and sighed.

Each bird consumed an energy worth the full capacity of a Divine Plane Initiation cultivator. Simply put, if a divine plane initiation cultivator is at full capacity with his spiritual energy and assume that he exploded through self destruction, all the energy output that comes from his body, if it is channeled and controlled and sent out in a systematic manner... that's how much it takes for a bird puppet to work the way it did just now.

No one in the right mind would even think about making something. Even if they got the blueprint for free, they would just brush it aside with how expensive every usage for it. It is basically the annual output of five to six mines worth of spirit stones.

However, Sam still could afford the price. He just has too many resources coming in from all the people he extorted. Just the gains he had through that one auction of coins are more than enough to bury this loss a thousand times over.

This incoming forces were stunned by such a display.

Not only were they unable to damage the barrier, weirdly not even a single bird puppet was damaged. That's because Sam calculated the trajectory and repositioned them. Or rather, the alert mechanism did it by itself.

Chetan's team got their cue and made their move.

*SWOOSH*

Long range attacks, all kinds of that these twelve people could conjure were shot out into the discs. The bird puppets opened their beaks again and threw the attacks. Same with the turrets. However, the difference is turrets have an amplification mechanism as well. It is one of the things Sam used frequently when he was still researching the resonance as a concept.

This basically replicates the same attack, however for a bigger energy input, it increases the output of the attack, keeping all the basics like structure, form and purpose same. The damage will amplify.

The lightning spears, exploding flaming spears, Icicles, all of them were shot through the birds and the turrets. All of them aimed at all three sides.

"DEFEND"

The leaders commanded. They advanced forward in a defensive stance.

Most of the elites at the front managed to dodge the attacks, but the weaker ones got caught. The problem is that unlike Sam who can use void style and elemental instability, the gambler team members can only use normal attacks.

They don't have a similar effect like the void style explosions. Void style disturbs the environment on a fundamental level. It disturbs the passive energy on of the environment. Same with the energy explosions, but these attacks...

If the other party has enough defensive measures, they can easily bypass it.

As Sam was thinking this, the other party seemed to have come prepared.

After experiencing the continuous series of attacks, the leaders decided to take a step back and not expend too much energy.

The Poseidon academy captured their territories and made them prisoner. They didn't know why they too such extensive measures, and assumed it was for mining purposes, but it

seemed like they had other thoughts in mind.

And they noticed something else.

These people who had their hands and legs shackled are not even able to stand straight. Their backs are hunched and their eyes looked like they are spelling crazy. Their tongues out with

saliva dripping down.

"You guys are screwed." Sam muttered out loud with a chuckle.

"Why did you say that?"

Chetan is very sensitive to Sam's remarks.

"Those guys are injected with a special medicine. It turns them into savages. It also quickly extracts their potential and burns it up to create a temporary power boost. You will see what happens next."

As soon as he finished his words, these group of savages flew towards the city. They are high in number and they had a weird aura around them.

The attacks didn't stop, but the team was shocked. Because none of them attacks are going past these savages. They are taking the attacks, crashing into the ground and getting back up

again.

When they took enough attacks...

"Here comes the twist." Sam muttered.

And the next thing they knew....

One of the savages who took around a dozen attacks and recovered instantly, has gone crazy.

Its energy circulation got so messed up and...

*BOOM*

It exploded with self-destruction.

A large area around the sky is enveloped with the spiritual energy explosion. Sam reacted quickly and separated the birds to keep them out of the explosion rage. But a person's self destruction particularly at that stage is not a small thing.

Some bird puppets got caught in the explosion. Even the formation barrier started trembling.

"Here comes the other one."

Sam said as he pointed at another savage that is ready to attack.

Chetan hurriedly aimed one of the turrets in that direction and shot a wind cannon at the disk. The amplified wind cannon, sent the savage flying back deep into the incoming forces.

*BOOM*

"Good thinking, but that is enough"

The opponent surely lost some members, but not enough. The gap created by the first explosion has not been filled and the forces came through. They attacked the barrier.

Similar scenes appeared on the other two sides.

"What to do?" Chetan asked Sam.

"I can hold up and make the attacks quickly. But you have to land the finishing blows on them. That is the most direct method. But there will be some losses." Sam thought as he replied.

"Why do I feel like you are not taking this seriously?"

"Don't worry. The current scenario is not the worst yet. The barrier can hold up for a while. The Poseidon team really did a great job with the nodes and energy source."

Sam said while shrugging. That is the reason he was not all anxious to deal with the incoming forces. He is just using the chance to test his creations and also slowly take down the

opponents.

He is just having fun.

If he really knew that the city will be taken down easily, he would have already made a move.

However, what Sam didn't think of was just how desperate and anxious the gambler's

academy team was.

Seeing the people advance, he started ordering them.

"Shoot with wind cannons and other similar techniques, aim at the front runners. Increasing

the attack launching speed and increase the distance between them and us."

Chetan hurriedly gave the orders and the team executed. The advance troops on the opposition that are attacking the barrier are pushed back, just a little bit.

Chetan turned around and went to the fourth direction where two of his teammates are

standing, doing nothing.

"I am going to borrow these."

He said as he took one of the discs and a turret that is connected to them. Sam frowned as he

looked at this. He had a bad feeling about this.

Chetan then came back and took the disc connecting to the turrets and puppets at the

frontline.

Sam widened his eyes and said.

"You better not be doing what I think you are doing."

He was about to stop, but he is a tad bit too late.

Chetan aimed this borrowed turret at the disc connecting the frontline puppets and turrets.

Then he took the borrowed disc and placed in front of him. He conjured an energy spear. He didn't hold back and condensed as much energy as he could into one attack and threw it.

The disc absorbed the attack and it used the turret to amplify it. The energy spear of at least six times the original attack came out of the turret and this is aimed at the disc connecting to the frontline weapons.
