Chapter 255
Chapter 255
The Big Boom cannon fired. All Astrid saw was an all illuminating blue. It rocketed straight for the Leviathan. Astrid clenched her hands into fists. Hit
But it didnt hit. The robed individual at the front that was firing powerful fireballs summoned a forty metre blazing wall of white flames. The Big Boom impacted the fire wall, and then a colossal explosion tugged at Astrids shoulders.
The blast from the cannon had bore a hole through the centre of the fire wall. Behind it, stood a mutilated body. Once white robes now were ragged strips of material soaked in blood. Through the haggard cloth, was a set of bone white ribs. The explosion had ripped the man apart. He fell into the water with a splash.
Again, her mother commanded as her eyes remained on the Leviathan.
Freya stepped forward. Mother, we only have
I understand. She nodded. Again.
Without further ado, the kobolds reloaded the cannon, then fired again. This time, a translucent wall was formed just in time, blocking the shot. But the shield didnt come out unscathed. Cracks formed.
Again, her mother repeated, and another blast of blue filled the sky.
This time it smashed through the splintered barrier. It continued until a man intercepted it. An explosion followed. Once the ocean and the light settled, returning to normal, it revealed a clothless man. His robes eviscerated, mighty, coiling muscles were burnt black. Blood fell. It trailed into the waters, creating a red haze surrounding him. Wounded, he stood on the water, like an unmovable mountain.
Crazy bastards, Brett said with a wry smile.
This is going to be a long battle, Lord Sinwen said. Those under Level two-hundred, do not come to the front. If spawn arrives from the sides, or the front, deal with them. This is our fight.
His words ended, and the Grand Nobles hovered above the battlements. Grand Noble Faris sat to the side, lounging against the wall of the ship. He was grievously wounded, yet an intense smell of alcohol wafted through the air. He brought a bottle of clear liquid gold to his mouth and drank the contents.
He smiled, gold liquid dripped down the corner of his mouth. Dont go dying before I recover. I want my revenge. Adding on to that point, dont kill that damned Pope. Hes mine.
Grand Noble Milanas scoffed. You say that like you even stood a chance in the first place. He almost killed you with a flick of his wrists
I was getting there! Faris shouted, then coughed. He covered his mouth with his hands. When he brought them away, blood covered his palm. He grumbled, If my alcohol brewed for five more minutes, Id have given him a nice surprise.
Five minutes. Uncle Vihaan laughed. On the battlefield, thats a lifetime. You would know that if you hadnt spent your years with your brain at the bottom of a barrel.
Thats my joy, Faris spat. A meat jockey like you wouldnt understand.
Incoming, Lord Sinwen said.
Astrid could feel it in the distance. Mana. And it was a terrifying amount. But it wasnt just a feeling. She could see it with her own eyes. The man standing atop the Leviathans head in golden robes, and a haloed mask, surrounded himself with a blue hue.
Impossible, Astrid said in shock. His mana is becoming physical? Just how high is his Intelligence.
Uncle Vihaan frowned. His muscles tensed. Too high. I dont know what he did to become so strong, but given the sight of those eyes of his, hes sold his soul to whatever powerful devil was listening.
Her father turned his head to Astrid. Symbiotes. However, unlike you, his own are rejecting the bonding process. Given enough time, they will die, or they will take him with them.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
What do you know about them, father? Astrid asked.
She looked at the other Grand Nobles. Astrid was aware that they knew about them, but to what extent was the question.
Not much at all, Lord Sinwen said. Before you awakened to your System, strange events had already begun taking place. At first they were small. But they quickly added up. I sent a detachment of our Shadow Corps to a nearby town at the time. They discovered spawn with strange eyes. They held even stranger powers. Then you awakened.
Lightning crackled above her fathers golden crown. I will tell you more later. Now is not the time.
Astrid nodded.
The enemy forces began their attack. And soon, two days had already passed in the blink of an eye.

Astrid stood in the middle of the upper deck, helping the line of supplies move smoothly to the back of the arc. Artillery shells were the main reason she had taken it upon herself to move it all. With her powers, she swiftly brought everything her father needed.
During the two days, Lord Sinwen and the other Grand Nobles deflected most of the oncoming attacks. But they couldnt completely stop them from striking Rebirth.
Shadowy spears, lasers of blinding light, or water bullets the size of shells struck the arc. The metal groaned in duress, but the durable plates held. For now. Although Astrid was very aware of the defensive capabilities Rebirth held, the people aiming for their necks didnt have ordinary strength. And some attacks landed on the buildings above, raining down debris, and bricks down at them.
Astrid was there to stop them from hurting anyone. However, she did try stopping one of the attacks herself. She didnt try it again. Although she was much stronger now, the attack tore through her shields as if they were made out of nothing but paper.
It was a grim reminder that she still had a ways to go before she could contest against the Grand Nobles, and their strength.
It wont be long.
Astrid had a secret up her sleeve. The Eye-Queens Trials. However, for that, she needed time. If she entered now, who knows how long the next trial would be. It was time which she didnt have.
Just as another spell struck the back of Rebirth, the entire arc blasted to the side. Buildings collapsed under the intense movement. Rachelle held onto the side railings as she looked at Astrid in horror.
What the hell was that? She asked, her knuckles turning white. No way that came from them, right?
Astrid shook her head. No way any one of those masked bastards had enough strength to completely shift Rebirth like it was a sack of potatoes.
Flying to the side, she peered out to the ocean. They had reached the Dead Seas. Up ahead, the entire waters swirled. Each one of the colossal swirls were over a mile long. There were at least forty of them Astrid stopped counting after that. It looked like the entire ocean was being sucked downward.
Brett appeared by her side. His hand slapped the barrier as he gazed ahead. Holy shit.
Were here, Losef said. The Dead Seas.
The Dead Seas
Astrid frowned. She looked straight down, peering over the edge of the barrier. They were caught in one of the swirls, but the high powered engines were powering them through it. They smashed through to the other side, only to enter another.
Rebirth thrashed to the side once more.
Were not going to make it, Astrid mumbled. Her head snapped to Freya. Where the hell is Noah?
AtAt the bow of the arc, She replied.
Astrid and the others rushed to the front. Her mother was there, and so was Noah. Those of the lower Levels were also here, staring mindlessly ahead at the horrors that awaited them.
The weather was changing.
Spanning the entire horizon, and above, the skies turned angry. Grey, black, and flashes of red lightning threatened to skewer them.
As Astrid looked beyond, she couldnt help but think that this was where the end of the world lay. It was a place that not even gods would want to travel. And they were now sailing through it.
Astrid stood just behind Noah, and said, I hope your plan works.
Me too, Astrid, Noah replied. Then, she walked forward. She took out what appeared to be a whistle. She rested her elbows on the railings in front of her, then blew on the whistle.
Astrid couldnt hear anything. A second later, the waters stirred. The devouring whirlpools in their path moved out of their way. Then, Astrids body jolted. She stuck her feet to the decking. They were moving so much faster now, like they had suddenly gained twice the thrusters that they had before.
Confused as to what was happening, she gazed down at the water below. A path was forming. A direct line that led straight ahead into the centre of the Dead Sea.
Were doing it! Astrid smiled.
This is just the beginning, Noah said as her brows tightly knit together.
From each of the whirlpools, terrifying monsters emerged.
