Chapter 53 - Monthly Exam
Surprisingly, the Spectra Gang's invasion halted which puzzled the Handwing Gang.
Meanwhile, the top five gangs have received the news about the Devil Himself's confirmed records. However, the SSDA immediately acted and hid the location.
For them, the Devil Himself was already a problem. If any of the top five gangs recruited him, it would be devastating.
Spies were the worst for both parties. Unfortunately, they couldn't flip their own organization upside down to find every spy. If the Devil Himself's location was revealed, an "intersupremal" gang war would occur, affecting the whole country.
Therefore, at all costs, the confirmed records should be confidential. At the very least, until the next Spirit War...
While that was happening in the underworld, Iesa continued to protect Teren from the potential bullying. But the more she protects him, the more the school body would hate him.
Mike and Catherine tried hard to control the situation, however, Teren's bad reputation reached the second-year students. That's a place they lack control of without a proper reason.
Days passed, and the student council's election began and ended with second-year students dominating it.
Catherine only texted Teren once which gave Iesa relief. Now, she was worried about what time will Lina text Teren. That girl was the one she feared the most.
As for Teren, no one noticed his injuries. Not that it's because they don't care but because Teren acted indifferent to it. Not to attract attention, he just placed one back-aid on his arm and for his thigh, how could any notice it?
The mysterious girl in a raincoat didn't show herself again. However, Teren would never forget her. But he didn't worry that much either
Teren ignored the growing malice targeted at him. Although growing, it was far from wanting to kill him. Also, no one was trying to mess with him which was strange. Later, he learned that it must be because of Iesa.
Speaking of Iesa, Teren stayed at her apartment a couple of times in the past couple of weeks. Whenever he would walk her home, she would invite him for snacks then they would watch a movie.
Whenever Teren was at Iesa's, he would become stiff, shy, and sometimes weird. Unknown to Iesa, Teren was meditating to control himself in front of her.
After a couple of visits, Iesa got used to wearing the oversized t-shirt and shorts pants which made Teren meditate more.
Needless to say, they were getting closer little by little.
Lina would argue with Iesa every time they got the chance. Iesa was itching to say that Teren was coming to her apartment but restrained herself. The last time she flaunted, Lina acquired Teren's number. She kept that fact as her secret trump card.
In the third week of June, which was also the third week since school began, Hanon came back to school. Seeing Teren again, he felt the creeps.
But after some time, he got used to it, and when July arrived, it was time for their monthly exam.
For a whole school year, there are a total of eight exams. In Mershen High, a grade is not split into semesters but rather, quarters - first quarter, second quarter, and so on. For each quarter, there is the monthly exam and then the quarterly exam as the "big" exam.
Only the second and fourth quarter does the quarterly exam becomes final exam. Anyway, a week before the monthly exam, studious students would prepare.
As for the normal students?
They can study for it the day before. Every normal student had this secret move "cramming" which makes them fail almost every time.
To counter this, the teacher would review some lessons for the students.
'Exams... I don't have any problem with it. From what I observed, the most studious people here are Lina, Mira, Kent, Clara, and Messe!'
Iesa thought with her fearless gaze. As a psychic, why wouldn't she use her abilities to get better grades?
Furthermore, she has this technique that the more students pick this answer, the greater the chance that it is right. However, sometimes, there are questions that only the smartest students could answer, for that, Iesa would rely on them.
The smartest student that was accepted by Harvard was actually just a cheat!
Iesa is smart but not that smart compared to the geniuses. But how could the others know this? Exams are taken by groups, not by individuals. Unless everyone is dumb in that room, Iesa will surely get a high grade!
Furthermore, she can also hear the teacher's thoughts.
Cheaters don't go that far when they enter the real world, Iesa knows it very well. However, to that topic, she would only say one thing.
'I don't plan to work anyway, I want to be a housewife!'
Escaping reality is one of Iesa's specialties.
After school, Teren walked Iesa home as usual. They would take a detour and get some snacks on the way, meeting other students.
These students would be puzzled as to why the hell are these two still together after school!
Entering the apartment, Iesa immediately changed into more comfortable clothing that greatly attacks Teren's self-control.
Changing the thoughts in his mind, Teren asked.
"When are you going to study for the monthly exam?"
Teren was no longer that embarrassed and shy in the apartment after a couple of visits. He was getting too comfortable in Iesa's apartment.
"... study?" Iesa looked at Teren as if doubting his words.
This made Teren roll his eyes.
"Sorry for asking. I forgot you're a total genius."
"Ah, ahahah, sorry. I'm just surprised that you would care about studying." Iesa curiously asked.
"Isn't it normal for students to study?"
Teren said as a fact but Iesa just slowly shook her head as she sat beside him. The distance between them was a quarter of a meter.
"It's not?"
"I don't think anyone is actually studying. I know there are a few who are serious about it but... I don't know, I just don't see that many students who study." Iesa then frowned and crossed both her arms and legs.
"Why are you blaming me for questioning you? You're the one always sleeping in classes."
".... touche."
