Chapter 514: She stole her place
Matthew nodded.
"Isabella is here, too. Don’t you want to see her? You seemed to have unfinished business with her at the time."
Charlotte turned her head in amazement. "Lady Dietrich is still alive?" She asked but suddenly frowned as some loose ends in her head connected.
"She’s The Missing Link?"
Matthew nodded at her. "Well, it would seem so. I honestly don’t have much of a clue regarding that. I don’t know the story behind The Missing Link, but there was a man from my father’s era who saw her and figured it all out. I found information about it in the Academic World."
"A man?" Charlotte asked and continued. "You mean Paul Hoffman?"
"That’s right." Matt replied, surprised. "You know about him?"
While it’s not impossible that Charlotte remembered one of the Five Most Powerful Men among the Great Dietrich’s subordinates, the point is that she pulled him out very quickly just by hearing a few words.
’Could he still be alive?’ he thought.
Charlotte looked at the tea being made; the steam coming out made her think of several things, but this steam indicated that the tea was ready, so she smiled at him.
"Go sit down. I’ll bring you the tea."
Matthew said nothing more and went to sit down.
Soon after, Charlotte arrived with the tea.
He clutched it in his hands and took the first sip as he sought to relax.
’This taste is still as good as last I tasted it... No, I even feel it has improved.’
The taste of the tea made many of his worries vanish just as the smoke was coming out of the glass.
Charlotte always made him this tea when he was stressed. It helped him forget his worries for a while so he could think more clearly. It’s a tea that only she can make.
When Matthew opened his eyes again, Charlotte had some papers in her hand.
"There are records of Paul Hoffman in these times; though he was last seen over ten thousand years ago, he was probably still alive. Still, no one can really know it’s him; it wasn’t until I came into this world that I realized. There’s a chance he might not be able to walk freely around this place, but he might still be alive."
She passed the documents to Matthew after saying this, allowing Matthew to be able to read them.
The information dated from several testimonies revealed having seen an amazingly powerful man who seemed to have long blue-white hair, red eyes, well-defined muscles, and a peculiarity: brown skin, practically burnt.
The greatest of his peculiarities was that whenever he appeared, many people attacked him, and strange red chains took hold of him, making him disappear.
The contours of his face were very well specified, and these testimonies ranged from stories from 5 million years ago to just over 10 thousand years ago, which was the last time.
The oldest ones said nothing about the skin; in fact, they said they had white skin and were beautiful-looking, albeit elderly, but the rest were all exactly the same.
’Red chains...’ Matthew couldn’t help but remember the chains that had sent Alessa back to her world some time ago.
He couldn’t understand why that would expel a vampire from the ancient era, so it seemed there were still mysteries around that he needed to find out. Even his memories told him nothing. All he knew was that those chains were part of the World’s Immortality.
The other thing that struck him as odd was Paul Hoffman’s ’burned’ skin.
’An immortal vampire can’t have burnt skin... Could it be the same? That guy was crafty in the ancient era; maybe he’s playing some of his cards on something. It’s annoying not knowing that, but if he’s alive, it’s excellent news. That old man has spent 10 million years fighting our enemies, even when alone; that’s too amazing. He’s a very respectable man.’
Matthew smiled and looked at Charlotte. "According to the specs they say here, I can only think of him. Although I find his burnt skin strange, I have to see him. Ten million years can change a lot of things."
Charlotte sighed as she heard this.
"It’s possible that it’s something done by a curse. You must know that the Hill Clan has tremendous power and their evolutionary ability can come up with amazing things. I guess even damaging immortality isn’t impossible."
"I thought so, too. It seems I need to understand these curses more thoroughly. I honestly don’t understand how my father and uncles managed to make it."
"Hahaha, for the greatest genius of the ancient era, who lived for over 90 million years, no wonder he can make it. Your father was worthy of respect." Charlotte laughed a little, drank tea, and then put the glass on the table.
"Let’s get back to the subject. Is Isabella really here? I’ve never seen her, and I’ve entered the Dark Kingdom several times."
"Yes, recently, she is remembering everything. There is something strange about several issues concerning her: her name is now Isla Moore; when I found her, she was very young, too young. Also, according to the scent on her body, this told me that she was indeed about 20 or 21 years old. Which makes no sense."

"Did her essence reset or something? Is that possible? Or could it be that she died and reincarnated at this time?" She asked but suddenly frowned. "No, then she would have been reincarnated several times since the Missing Link is named many times throughout the story."
Matthew nodded. "Her arrival in this era is a mystery to me, but she is immortal. It’s not easy to kill an immortal, so how would she die and then be reincarnated if that were the case? Still, the fact that she’s alive and with me is enough. Whatever is going on, I’ll find out."
Charlotte sighed. "There’s nothing to be done, then. I’ll wait until Lady Dietrich recovers to go fight her. Since she stole my place as First Lady Dietrich, she’ll have to pay for it." She smiled. Her smile seemed to be one of jest, but simultaneously, one that indicated she was totally serious.
Matthew chuckled a little. "Hahaha..." Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Charlotte looked at him reproachfully and sighed. "Don’t tease. I have no one to train my skills with, and she was always perfect, but we only got to train once; it’s unfortunate. Lately, I’ve had to settle for Cecily Edevane, but that woman is crazy, and she annoys me."
"Oh? You know Cecily Edevane? You’ve even fought with her..."
"I met her by chance as soon as I came into this world; she wanted to kill me and was curious when she couldn’t do it. Since then, we have fought often, but she is very annoying. The last time, she got hurt, but she still came to fight me again. She’s crazy, that woman; she must have a couple of screws loose, but..." Charlotte sighed.
"I can’t deny she’s powerful."
Matthew frowned. "How powerful is she? There are several Clans after me lately; some want to kill me, and others come with other plans. Cecily Edevane has been the one I’ve been warned about the most."
Charlotte frowned and thought for several minutes.
"She could be the most dangerous person you could be up against, but at the same time, she could be the easiest. It will depend on the two of you. Although what I just said sounds silly, it makes sense. All the skills she has are the ones you used to use the most in the Ancient Era. She is more talented than Gray Allen."
Surprise slowly wrote on Matthew’s face as he understood what she was saying.
