Primitive Man

Chapter 43: A village banquet

Garnt and Gundo, sat by their campfire. Between them lay the meat of a creature that made even a primal bull seem small, a massive, scaly beast they had captured earlier in the day thanks to the hunting tactics of Garnt.

Gundo poked at the tough meat with her knife and sighed, "Garnt, this meat is like chewing on hard tree bark. How did we manage to capture such a disappointment? Compared to this, I can appreciate the meat of our bulls even more."

Garnt chuckled and replied, "Well, Mother, it wasn't easy, that's for sure. You see, we were out in the middle of the river, just enjoying the serenity of the river, when we spotted ripples in the water. At first, we thought it was just a huge fish, but then this monster emerged!"

Gundo's eyes widened with curiosity as she leaned in closer, "A monster, you say? Tell me more! I was worried when you first said about that attack, but seeing this monster up close, I'm glad all three of you came back without any wounds."

Garnt nodded and continued, "It had scales that shimmered like dew in the sunlight, and teeth as long as my forearm. We wrestled with it for hours, but it was no easy feat. Eventually, we managed to subdue it and haul it into the river bank."

He started to explain, how they managed to capture this dangerous creature. "We just needed a bait to attract it to the river bank, and when it got there, we used ropes and our spears to pierce its vital points. Not an easy catch, but it was a good experience for our hunters,"

Gundo scratched her head, still unimpressed by their catch, "But Garnt, what good is a monster if its meat is as tough as old trees? And it's tasteless, too!"

Garnt nodded in agreement, "You're right. This creature may not be the food material we were hoping for, but it serves as a warning to all who venture into these waters. People need to be cautious when bathing or boating in this river; there might be more than one of these lurking beneath."

[By the looks of it, it might be the ancestor of alligators in my era. Even in my era, it took a lot of effort to make alligator meat tender, so I would say it's not worth it right now.]

"That's good to hear. Let's go along with our plan to find more iron then,"

"Garnt, can I have an energy bar to remove this unpleasant aftertaste from my mouth? It just feels a little muddy,"

"Eva, give me some chocolate," Garnt said. As soon as he uttered those words, a full chocolate bar appeared in his hand, but without any wrapper, indicating that the rule of not receiving anything extra or unsuitable for the era still applied.

[I'm surprised that you still have the limit of five items per day. It seems like it won't increase, and this menu has also started to upgrade after some time, suggesting that you will have to develop this village to access more items]

Eva remarked with a little disappointment in her voice.

Garnt acknowledged her words as accurate, realizing that the only thing he had managed to obtain from the menu was food, which, according to Eva, was the most justifiable item to request despite the era.

With a warm smile, Garnt walked over to his mother, who was waiting for Garnt to do something He approached her and said, "Here, Mom, I've got something special for you." He extended his hand, presenting the chocolate bar.

His mother looked up in surprise, her eyes lighting up as she took the chocolate bar from Garnt's hand. She broke it in half with a satisfying snap, and her face lit up with delight. She handed one half of the chocolate bar back to Garnt and said, "Thank you, my dear. This is such a wonderful treat."

Garnt grinned as he took the other half, and together they savoured the rich, velvety chocolate. His mother's eyes sparkled with happiness as she enjoyed the unexpected indulgence.

She leaned over and gave Garnt a loving hug, saying, "This is the best thing I've ever tasted, and it's all thanks to you, my sweet Garnt. I can't express how much I appreciate this."

At that moment, Garnt knew his points and system existed for that purpose since he felt pride seeing her enjoying her life and being happy more than anything.

After a while, others also joined, and the banquet started. Everyone was excited to listen to what Garnt had to say, and they knew this must be something important for him to personally talk with everyone.

All the important people in the village, from farmers to hunters, were there so they could see what he was planning this time.

The anticipation in the air was palpable. He cleared his throat, and all eyes focused on him, waiting for his words.

"My fellow villagers," Garnt began, his voice carrying through the assembled crowd, "I am grateful to see all of you here today. It warms my heart to witness such unity and support from our community."

A hushed silence fell over the banquet as everyone hung on his every word. Garnt continued, "I've called this gathering today because I have an important announcement. Something that I believe will greatly benefit our village and its future."

A ripple of curiosity passed through the crowd, and Garnt's eyes sparkled with determination. "I have decided that it is time for us to embark on a new endeavour – the search for iron ores. Iron is a precious resource that can be used to create stronger tools and improve our way of life.

With stronger tools, we can increase our productivity in farming and hunting, and in turn, make our village even more prosperous."

Excitement spread like wildfire among the villagers, and whispers of approval filled the air, even though none of them had any idea what Iron looked like. They just simply believed their leader, who led them up to this point.

Garnt raised his hand to calm the chatter. "But this journey will not be without challenges. It will require dedication, hard work, and unity. That's why I am here to announce that I will personally lead this expedition to find iron ores.

I have faith in our village, and I believe that together, we can overcome any obstacle that comes our way."

A cheer erupted from the crowd, and Garnt smiled at their enthusiasm. "During my absence, I want to assure you that our village will be in capable hands. I have asked my Aunt Ayra to step forward and lead in my stead.

She is a wise and experienced member of our community, and I trust her to make the best decisions for our village."

Garnt turned to Ayra, who stood beside him and nodded in acknowledgement. She smiled warmly at the crowd, earning their respect and trust.

"In conclusion," Garnt said, his voice unwavering and prideful, "We are going to enter a new era, so believe me and follow me because once we are done, our lives will become even easier and more comfortable."
