Primitive Man

Chapter 241: No longer human

Garnt struggled to break free from Mia's iron grip, his mind racing as he tried to process the sudden turn of events. Her strength was overwhelming, and it took every ounce of his willpower to resist her choking grasp.

"Mia, stop this! What do you want?" he gasped, clawing at her hands. Even with his full strength, he found it impossible to break out Mia's tight grasp.

Mia's eyes were wild, a mix of fury and desperation. "You and that woman ruined everything! I can't let you go on like this!" she spat, her grip tightening. "I knew you would do something like this, but what I can't believe is...how stupid you are!"

"That woman! Eva is poisoning this world. She is changing evolution just because of her selfish desires. She is destroying people's lives to take what she wants, and you are stupidly following her commands like a dog," Mia shouted in anger.

Inside Garnt's mind, Eva's voice echoed, filled with concern and confusion.

[Garnt, something must have happened to Mia. She's never been like this before. She was always calm, collected... Something's changed.]

Garnt could feel Eva's worry seeping into his own thoughts. "Eva, do you think it has something to do with that meteor?"

[It's possible, I also can feel a strange familiarness to her. That explains why you kept feeling a familiar sensation. She might have broken the timeline to get here, if she has the power of a meteor, which means we failed somewhere]

Eva replied.

[We need to find out what's driving her to this point and make use of her to correct whatever error we did.]

Just as Garnt's vision began to blur from lack of air, Mia seemed to realize that choking him wouldn't get her what she wanted. With a frustrated scream, she released him, and in an instant, she and Garnt vanished from the spot, leaving everyone else stunned.

Oswald and the soldiers, as well as Unami and the villagers, were left in utter confusion. The stern officer barked orders, trying to regain control of the situation. "Where did they go? Find them!"

Unami, still processing what had just happened, felt a growing sense of dread. "We need to move, now!" she shouted to the villagers.

Before anyone could react, the ground began to shake violently. The distant rumble of a stampede grew louder, a horde of wild animals charging straight toward them. Panic set in among the villagers, and Oswald's soldiers raised their weapons, unsure of what to do.

Oswald's eyes scanned the chaos, landing on the helpless villagers. He sighed, knowing that leaving them to die would weigh heavily on his conscience. "Get into the trucks, all of you!" he commanded.

Since his head was a mess, he decided to follow what his heart told him to do and help the human-looking people in this world.

The villagers hesitated, their distrust of Oswald and his men evident. One of the older villagers stepped forward, shaking his head. "We can't trust you. You are our enemy."

Oswald's frustration grew. "Do you want to be trampled to death? This isn't about trust; it's about survival!"

Unami and Rona were too conflicted about what they were going to do, but they knew the obvious answer to this request would be declining it since they had their beloved people back in the temporary village.

"We can't even if we want. Our people are not safe! We are going back," Rona muttered, as she turned around. She knew Oswald had the capability to completely annihilate them if he wanted since he had a load of guns with him, but seeing his request to provide help, she decided to turn her back toward her enemy despite knowing how dangerous it could be for her.

"Wait! How many?" All of a sudden Oswald questioned, as if he was trying to help them.

"Too many! I can't leave them and escape with you," Rona answered his question to which Oswald sighed.

"We will take you there since Mia has gone against us, I don't know what to do anymore, so your people might be the key. I will save you, and then you will cooperate with us. This is a fair deal for both of us, don't you think?" Oswald questioned, to which Rona and Unami had to agree.

If they remained there any longer, they knew they would become victim of the stamped of animals that were coming in their direction.

"Fine! Until we find Garnt and that woman, we will support each other, but after that, we will only follow garnt's decision." Rona said, as Oswald sighed knowing it was not the time to argue.

Reluctantly, some of the villagers began to move towards the trucks, while others still held back, their fear and suspicion overriding their instincts.

Meanwhile, Garnt found himself in a strange, empty space. The landscape was barren, with an eerie stillness that made his skin crawl. He turned to see Mia, standing a few feet away, her expression a mix of anger and despair.

"Where are we?" Garnt demanded, his voice echoing in the vast emptiness.

Mia's eyes flickered with a strange light. "We're in the void between worlds, Garnt. A place where time and space mean nothing. And unless you make things right, we'll be trapped here forever. I have become an existence what our people might call god, but it is not stable."

Garnt's mind raced as he tried to piece together what Mia was saying. "What do you mean? What happened to you, Mia? You were never like this. Did you use the..."

Mia's gaze hardened. "Eva! Are you the one talking to me through this boy? I know it is you,"

Then her attention went back to Garnt. "The meteor, Garnt. Its essence is leaking into me, and it's driving me mad. It's unstable and unpredictable. But it also holds immense power. Power that could fix everything, if only I knew how to control it without your help, but no!."

"Eva and my professor! They are the people that managed to find the way to use this and only they will know how to make that machine. Even when I have every knowledge of the universe, I still can't comprehend how to built that machine. Just by having that knowledge, Eva is already an existence that is above me,"

Garnt's heart pounded as he began to understand. "You used the meteor's power, and now it's tearing you apart. But if it's so powerful, why don't you just use it to build whatever machine you need?"

Mia let out a bitter laugh, holding her head as if in pain. "It's not that simple, Garnt. The meteor's power is wild and chaotic. It can't be controlled fully. It gives and it takes, and right now, it's taking my sanity. I can't control anything related to the meteor itself. You are the reason I'm breaking like this."

Garnt took a step closer, his voice softening. "Mia, we can find a way. Together. But you have to let go of this anger, this desperation. It's only making things worse. Eva and Mia, you two should work together to find a balance."

Mia's eyes filled with tears, the weight of her turmoil evident. "You don't understand, Garnt. I was so close to figuring it out, and then everything fell apart. I just wanted to make things right. I know Eva told you about the machine, please make the correct one this time. I want to correct everything. Unlike Eva, I will make things right. you will live a normal life and die. I will make sure Eva also does that. I just want..."

Garnt reached out, his hand resting on her shoulder. "We will, Mia. But first, tell me... why do you need this power? What do you want?"

It was a simple question, but for some reason, Mia had no clear answer to it. At first, she thought she might want to change her past, but then she realized how pointless doing something like that would be. Her affection toward the professor who saved Eva instead of her when the disaster happened, is it even worth going so far as something like this? Is this jealousy? Or am I power hungry? Mia kept asking these questions from herself.

At this moment, she realized how much of a mess she was and quickly regretted everything she did. It was as if she went crazy for some time, but quickly coming to her senses because of the influence of the meteor on her body, she muttered.

"I just want to become everything! I want to give up on everything and become a true existence that you people will worship. I want to be called a god, I want to.." She kept muttering some absurd thing, to which Eva reacted with a disappointed sigh.

[She doesn't even know what she is talking about. Looks like this is what happen to humans who try to use the power of meteor. I wonder how many people fell prey to this. Would I have ended up like this if I did the same thing as her? Does that mean no matter what you do, I will not be the same mother to my daughter even if I return back?]

She questioned Garnt, who obviously had no answers, but right now he was thinking about how he could escape from this woman or at least use this situation to his advantage.
