Chapter 213: Rescue mission
Rona cautiously moved through the shadows, her keen eyes scanning the mysterious group and the events unfolding before her.
The dangerous battlefield of the once tranquil village now buzzed with activity as people emerged from the mysterious black hole and set up makeshift tents.
"This is unbelievable! So is this really the Stone Age?"
"Professor Mia wasn't lying when she said this project might change the future of our country,"
"No wonder she has so much power with the government when she can do these types of things. This is easily the biggest thing that is going to happen and I'm glad to be a part of that project and witness everything with my naked eyes,"
The soldiers clad in the national army suits that kept working on the tents kept talking with each other filled with awe and curiosity, which also filled Rona with information that this group might not be a normal group.
'These shelters! These foods and clothes, everything about them remind me of the stories that Garnt used to tell us. Is this really...'
Rona had a wild thought, but she knew it wasn't time for her to make assumptions when her two sisters were being captured by these people.
Among all these troubles and people, Rona spotted Unami, Kara, and Baktou, unconscious and bound, helpless against their captors. Even though Unami and Kara were treated better than Baktou, who is tied from his head to toe, she didn't want to see anyone restraining her sisters like that.
Hidden behind a cluster of trees, Rona observed the figures working efficiently. One woman, clad in a surgical mask and moving with purpose, caught her attention. Mia Baker, as the villagers called her, seemed strangely familiar with the land, as if she had been there before.
Rona continued to sneak around, staying low and avoiding detection. As she skulked closer, she noticed a woman guard approaching from the side. seizing the opportunity, Rona swiftly knocked her out with a silent blow. Stripping the guard of her military clothes, Rona quickly changed, blending in seamlessly with the captors.
With the stolen attire, Rona skillfully tied up the unconscious guard, ensuring she wouldn't raise the alarm. Now disguised, she moved closer to the tent where Unami and Kara were held captive. The murmurs of the mysterious group echoed in the air as Rona's heart raced with determination.
Peeking inside the tent, she witnessed the group huddled around Unami and Kara, discussing their next steps. Rona clenched her fists, her mind racing to devise a plan to rescue her friends and unveil the mysteries hidden within the black hole's arrival.
"This thing! It looks similar to the tube that Garnt created to put gunpowder, so if I hold it like this and-" Rona was investigating about the gun as her fingers automatically went to the trigger. "Yes, if I push it like this..."
She was about to pull the trigger when suddenly Mia who witnessed what was about to happen came running to stop Rona from shooting the gun.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to kill us here? Keep your hands off the trigger and come and help. I don't want any men handling these women and your duty as a female solider is to deal with these two primitive women," Mia gave her orders in a stern voice and Rona knew it was her chance to reach Unami and Kara.
Without speaking, Rona nodded her head because she knew Mia might recognize the voice of the original owner of the outfit.
She hurried over to where Unami and Kara were being held, her heart pounding with a mix of panic and shock witnessing everything around her.
As she approached, she kept her gaze steady, trying to project an air of authority despite the turmoil inside. Unami and Kara looked up, their eyes widening in surprise at the sight of her.
Even though they scoffed at the beginning thinking it was another soldier, when they noticed the familiar looking dark colour skin and the face of a sister that shared the same man, they quickly felt like their bodies got a new wave energy.
"Rona?" Kara whispered, disbelief colouring her voice.
Rona pressed a finger to her lips, indicating they should stay quiet. "I'm here to get you out," she murmured, quickly working to untie their bonds. She made sure nobody was there to witness what she was doing because she knew these people were even more dangerous than the threat of Baktou.
Unami and Kara nodded, their expressions were grateful but cautious. They knew they had to trust Rona, but the situation was still precarious.
Once their bindings were loosened, Rona motioned for them to follow her. "We need to move quickly," she whispered urgently. "Stay close and stay quiet."
Together, they slipped out of the tent, blending into the bustling activity of the makeshift camp. Rona kept her eyes peeled for any sign of suspicion, her senses on high alert.
As they made their way through the camp, Rona couldn't help but feel a surge of determination. She was determined to unravel the mysteries surrounding this strange group and their even stranger technology. And most importantly, she was determined to keep her sisters safe.
On their way Rona and the other girls got some looks from the other soldiers around her, but none of them acted upon it because they thought, Unami and Rona were just some villagers from the seaside village that were being led by one of their soldiers to a safe place.
But as they reached the edge of the camp, a voice cut through the air, freezing them in their tracks.
"Stop right there!"
Rona turned to see Mia striding towards them, her expression a mix of anger and disbelief.
"What do you think you're doing?" Mia demanded, her eyes narrowing as she took in the scene before her.
Rona exchanged a tense glance with Unami and Kara, steeling herself for what was to come. It was clear they were about to face a confrontation with this strange woman.
Rona didn't wait a single second for Mia to react, as she took the pistol she had and aimed it at Mia with her finger ready to pull the trigger.
"Don't move! I know what this iron pole does and if you move, I will shoot this," Rona shouted and Mia quickly understood that the woman who was treating her was not a soldier from her country, rather it was one of Garnt's villagers.
She had a slight idea about the important people in Garnt's village thanks to all the information she gathered when she was in Baktou's body acting as a system, and right now she had to use this information to her advantage to get out of this situation because she knew the last thing she wanted was to get shot by a random woman right after she came close to her goal.
"Put the gun down, Rona," Mia said, her voice tense but steady. "You don't want to do this. We can talk, we can find a solution that works for both of us."
Rona's grip on the pistol tightened, her eyes darting between Mia and the approaching figures. She could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on her, the urgency of their escape battling with the risk of violence.
"Let us go, Mia," Rona replied, her voice trembling slightly despite her efforts to sound resolute. "We don't want any trouble, but we can't stay here. Please, just let us leave peacefully."
Mia's expression softened for a moment, a flicker of doubt crossing her features. But before she could respond, more soldiers emerged from the shadows, their weapons drawn and aimed at Rona and her sisters.
Rona's heart raced as she realized the gravity of the situation. They were outnumbered, outgunned, and trapped with no way out.
With a sinking feeling in her chest, Rona made a split-second decision. She raised the pistol, aiming it directly at Mia, her finger tightening on the trigger.

"Rona, no!" Unami cried out, but it was too late.
The gunshot echoed through the air, but instead of hitting its intended target, the recoil of the gun caught Rona off guard, causing her shot to veer off course. She stumbled backwards, losing her balance and falling to the ground.
Mia, startled by the sudden movement, instinctively dropped to the ground as well, her eyes wide with fear.
Seizing the opportunity, Rona scrambled to her feet, pulling Unami and Kara with her as she ran. Bullets whizzed past them, the sounds of chaos and confusion engulfing the camp as they made their desperate escape.
As they disappeared into the darkness, Rona couldn't shake the feeling of dread that lingered in the air. They had narrowly escaped, but the danger was far from over.
She knew it was just the beginning, as this woman had Baktou with her and now the village. She also had to wonder about the goal of this woman and she knew Garnt had some significant role in it so it was obvious that she had to be cautious.
On her way back, Unami and Kara noticed the damage that happened to the whole seaside village and the villagers of both factions. They collected all the healthy people on their way back and decided to join Garnt, so they could retreat from this absurd battlefield for now.
