Chapter 97 - Pokemon Master Of Tactics: 97
Alex was sitting on a chair with a piece of paper on the table that had various ideas to defeat Misty written on it. Although he had thought about a good plan after several hours, Alex couldn't think of a really 100%win plan.
"Fck, why can't I think of anything! Do I really have to use 'that' idea? But it is highly unreliable and has a lot to do with luck."
Kirlia, who was reading a book, felt Alex's emotions were getting worse and worse. She closed her book and walked towards Alex. When she was behind Alex, who was lost in thought and hugged him.
Alex suddenly felt a touch around his body and turned to see who it was. After he saw Kirlia hugging him cutely, his mood got better without him even noticing it.
He looked at Kirlia with a confused look when he said, "Kirlia, what's going on? Are you lonely? Or sick? Shall we go to a Pokécenter? Or..."
Kirlia just smiled at the many questions that Alex was asking her.
...
Alex woke up early in the morning at his bedside, feeling nervous. That feeling of not having a solid plan for how the fight and not knowing how it will go wasn't a great feeling for him. Alex likes to have a certain amount of control over the fight and not give the opponent any chance of victory. Unfortunately, Misty's Pokémon were too strong and had no fatal weaknesses like his last opponent had.
What annoyed Alex the most was that he couldn't get the info of her strongest Pokémon, Starmie. The problem lies in Starmie being an Elite Pokémon.
Misty is got into the finals with her two weakest Pokémon while Alex had shown all of his Pokémon.
Alex's Pokémon ate breakfast silently that day, which just shows that they were also quite nervous.
During breakfast, the TV was on showing a preshow for the tournament. As usual, Erika and Professor Wälhder were invited to this preshow as guests.
"Welcome to the preshow of the Kanto Rookie tournament. Today is the last and the most important day of the tournament, where we will find out the winner of this thrilling tournament. Though before that fight, we will have the fight for the 3rd place. Naturally, I am not alone today. Gym leader Erika and Professor Wälhder are with me, to share with us their valuable insight."
Erika showed a gentle smile as she greeted the audience. Professor Wälhder also tried to smile in a friendly way but couldn't, thanks to his relatively grumpy face.
"Let's talk about the fight for the third place first. The participants are..."
Alex heard them first talking about this unimportant match. He just ignored it and continued eating his meal.
Alex didn't care who wins the third place. He knows that third-place gets a Pokémon Egg from a Royal Pokémon. That is why this fight is so important to the contestants.
The first three will all get a Royal Pokémon Egg, as far as Alex knows. The first place will also get a rare item for his Pokémon Egg, which can increase the potential of this Pokémon.
Alex has not yet considered which Royal Pokémon to choose because his total focus was on winning this tournament. Although he hates to bet on his bad luck, he had no choice because Misty's Pokémon have no apparent weakness and were much stronger than his Pokémon. Maybe if he had 6 months or even 3 months more to train, this would not be the case. When he thought of the first few months he was wasted in this world, he got annoyed again.
"Ok. Let's talk about the finale and the two participants who made it this far."
He presented the participants for the final to the audience before he asked with a smile, "Erika, which of these outstanding participants do you think will win this final?"
Erika, who was already expecting this question, showed a conflicted face. "I've thought about this question a lot myself, and I have to say that I have absolutely no idea. Although Misty is much stronger, participant Alex is not an opponent that you can easily defeat just because you are stronger than him. So this fight can go in any direction."
Professor Wälhder nodded with an approving smile. "Yes, I can't agree with you more. This finale can go in any direction despite the great level of difference. Although most viewers are thinking right now that Alex is too weak to win. I think that that's not the case. Although the level difference is big, it's not so big that Alex's tactics are useless against this strength."
Erika said seriously, "Hmm, I think this tournament will be one of the most enthralling and exhilarating tournaments in a long time."
The moderator said with a smile, "As the audience have just heard, we can look forward to an exciting finale."
Alex, who heard this, had ticked mark on his face when he thought, "I hate this excitement. Damn it! Why can't I get an easy opponent and win the reward?"
While Alex was thinking about it, Scizor and Crobat were bickering again.
"Hey, bat! I thought about the tournament a bit and realized that you have been pretty useless in this tournament so far. So I ask you to pull yourself together in the final, so we don't lose. I don't want to lose the finale just because of your poor performance. Whatever you do, don't drag us down."
Crobat couldn't hold his anger anymore. "Shut up, you second class can opener!. Alex has clearly saved me for the final as a Trump card, so don't lower the IQ around you with your dumb words."
"What did you call me, you arrogant bat?"
"You heard me."
As always, Kirlia sighed and went to her two brothers to end their argument quickly. Kirlia, who is much younger than Scizor and Crobat, just couldn't understand why they argue if they didn't actually hate each other.
Alex, who looked at the time, looked up and said to his Pokémon,
"Let's go."
