Chapter 269: Significant Gains

Battle Tower, High-level Area.

Terrance walked down the corridor and arrived at the service network platform, scratching his head.

Since entering the High-level Area, the young Trainers who passed Hogan’s test have also stepped into this place.

At this point, the High-level Area was essentially filled with a group of Trainers at the same level, constantly ambushing each other. Now, the High-level Area has become chaotic and messy.

Fighting one-on-one is manageable, but here you have to face seven opponents in a row. So far, no one has been able to achieve a winning streak in the High-level Area. This situation, combined with the imbalance between effort and reward, has led to complaints from many of the former Trainers of High-level Area.

Many Trainers have avoided challenges lately, fearing that their hard work will be thwarted by this group of newcomers. fearing that all their hard work would be sniped by these little brats.

However, this isn’t something Terrance can prevent. There are many Trainers just like him. Even if he doesn’t participate, others will still fight fiercely for the double coins.

By battling two to three times a day, Terrance has gradually accumulated quite a few Battle Tower’s coins.

In less than a month, he’s reaped significant gains.

Recently, the High-level Area has been providing him with fewer and fewer benefits.

When he first entered, there were many Trainers with winning streaks. But as more Trainers passed Hogan’s test and entered the High-level Area, it has become harder to find opponents with even “two or three” consecutive wins. This means that even when he wins, the coins he earns aren’t as much as they used to be.

Terrance sighed. As expected, everything has its pros and cons. Although he earned a lot of coins in a short time, things were starting to slow down now.

He calculated the time and realized it was almost the date Scott had set. The Trainers from Unova should be arriving soon.

Data is still just data; it differs from reality. To help these selected Trainers better understand the Pokémon of Unova, Scott has gone to great lengths and spared no expense, organizing a trip to Hoenn. He specifically invited outstanding Trainers from Unova so as to provide simulation battles for Terrance and the others.

“I’ve only had one battle today…” Terrance pondered for a moment, then decided not to apply for another battle. He returned to his residence and took out the discs provided by Instructor Hogan.

These discs contained information about the Pokémon of the Unova Region. Terrance had already memorized the content which is available online, so he now had a deeper understanding of Unova’s Pokémon. The discs were not much value to him.

Terrance contacted Instructor Hogan to ask if he needed to return the discs. After receiving a response, he put them away and contacted Albert and Murasakibara.

Since entering the High-level Area, Terrance often hung out with these two, and the three of them regularly engaged in “sniping” at those on winning streaks.

So, as he planned to temporarily withdraw from the High-level Area and not engage in battles there for the time being, Terrance informed the two of his decision.

“Triple exchange opportunity for five rounds of consecutive victories, along with the coins earned from the intense battles in the High-level Area over the past month…”

“The resources I can exchange for are already a substantial amount—”

Terrance took a deep breath. Only a little over a month remained before he could fulfill his promise to Scott and leave the Battle Tower.

While the remaining time wasn’t short, the resources he’d gathered so far were already quite abundant. However, Terrance considered that continuing to battle in the Battle Tower to earn more coins might no longer be worth it.

The amount of coins he could earn was decreasing; even with the double coin advantage, his earnings in the last week were not as high as in the first week.

“Three opportunities, each to exchange for a certain amount of Silver Powder, Bright Powder, and Bloody Wing.”

“And the coins… they’re just enough to cover half the cost of a ‘Macho Brace’… but it’s not enough, still not enough.” Terrance rubbed his head. The ‘Macho Brace’ was incredibly costly. Even with his double coin advantage, after nearly a month of effort, sniping two to three times daily, the coins he’d accumulated were still only half of what was needed.

For Terrance, who greatly coveted this device, it was quite vexing.

But with the current situation of the High-level Area, to obtain this device, he would need to battle for at least another three months with this double coin advantage…

And this is considering that, as an invited Trainer by Scott, he didn’t have to pay any miscellaneous fees for each battle. There was also another possibility—achieving over 70 consecutive wins in the High-level Area, which would also meet the conditions for exchanging for the ‘Macho Brace.’

However, this was clearly something Terrance couldn’t achieve at the moment. If he could achieve 70 consecutive wins, then 100 consecutive wins wouldn’t be far off, and at that point, he would be very close to the Trainers at the top ranks of the Champion League… something beyond Terrance’s current reach.

The ‘Macho Brace’ is a technological device with remarkable effects for specialized Pokémon training. It’s difficult to manufacture and is scarce in quantity, rarely available to the public.

“Sigh~ Let’s put the ‘Macho Brace’ aside for now. Growlithe’s progress has slowed significantly after over a month of battles in the Battle Tower; it’s time to let it evolve.”

“And…let’s exchange a portion of Bloody Wing for it!” Terrance decided resolutely.

This was a decision he made after discussing it with Growlithe. Outrage carries a certain risk for Growlithe but can also provide a significant boost in power; risk and strength go hand in hand, something even Terrance couldn’t deny.

Terrance was concerned about the risks, but Growlithe seemed unfazed, much to Terrance’s amusement and annoyance.

Growlithe expressed confidence in its ability to handle this power and a desire to grow stronger. After much careful consideration, Terrance buried his concerns deep within his heart.

“Believe in your Pokémon…” Ultimately, Terrance chose to trust Growlithe.

Now, Terrance had a portion of Bloody Wing and a pure Fire Stone in his possession. But of course, to ensure Growlithe’s optimal evolution, nothing could be rushed.

“Bloody Wing” is the blood left behind when the brutal Pokémon Salamence grows its wings, and is capable of stimulating the berserk genes within Growlithe and increasing its chances of learning Outrage. However, this process was bound to be painful, and figuring out how to have Growlithe properly absorb the Bloody Wing was a challenge in itself.

Just possessing a Bloody Wing doesn’t guarantee that Growlithe can learn Outrage.

Terrance had three options: let Growlithe absorb it directly, or evolve Growlithe first and then have it absorb the Bloody Wing, or let Growlithe absorb it during its evolution.

After looking up a lot of information, Terrance finally made up his mind—since he was going to do it, he had to do it the best way possible.
