Chapter 104: “Honest and Lies”

The ring Henry took out was his treasured trump card, a cherished possession passed down from generation to generation until it found itself in Henry’s possession

Disaster relics. – “Honest and Lies”

It was an ancient mysterious relic. The story behind it was love and betrayal of the princess.

As the princess of a once-great ancient kingdom, she was born with an extraordinary innate power that both intrigued and terrified those around her. Her innate abilities were both a blessing and a curse, leaving her isolation hiding in the room, and all her days slipped by in a quiet room and she never stepped out.

Until a brave knight, with a heart full of love and sincerity, entered her chamber. With gentle words and unwavering devotion, he sparked a flame of hope within the princess, unveiling the beauty of the world beyond her confines.

The princess gradually untied the knot in her heart and became lively and happy again and finally stepped out.

The knight turned out to be the leader of a legion long ago, his noble intentions won the princess’s trust and love, leading to successfully married the princess, ascending to the throne as a rightful ruler alongside his beloved princess.

However fate seemed to different plan, after becoming king, the power and influence enveloped him, succumbing to temptations that threatened to tarnish their idyllic love story. He gradually had many new lovers and did not know how to restrain himself. However, the princess stayed in the room pretending to be unaware.

On the eve of princess’s birthday, the princess confronted the knight and asked him whether he still loved her.

The knight, with no hesitation smoothly lied to her, saying that he still love the princess. For with the princess just smiled and said honestly, ‘I love you too,’ with that the princess embraced the knight and the two disappeared, leaving only the ring.

As long as the user’s body came into contact with relics, it could be activated. However, this activation comes at a great cost – the very second itself user’s body began to corrode, and eventually be corroded to the point of festering all over the body, making a state worse than death itself.

The ultimate power of the relic resonates in the word “lie”.

Once the user “lie,” the relic would take effect, render a preordained outcome void by speaking a counter narrative, yet this power was limited to three uses per day.

Furthermore, nullifying the outcome must be a plausible one, and simply saying “I can’t be a god” won’t suffice.

The cost of wielding this power extends beyond physical corrosion to encompass the vulnerability of one’s inner truth and honesty of the heart.

The black threaded cane in Shen Yi’s hand was already raised high. With a swift and heavy strike, the threaded cane cleaves through the air, unleashing a ferocious wave of extraterritorial energy that embodied the very essence of annihilation. The power that emanated from the cane encapsulated a force so potent that it could only be categorized as the epitome of “destruction” itself.

However, Shen Yi’s pupils quivered by the unexpected turn of event.  As the cane approached its target, it unexpectedly veered off course. Instead of making contact, the cane merely brushed past the figure before him, curving in a graceful arc that defied its original path, ultimately missing its intended target – Henry’s body.

Shen Yi raised his eyebrows, feeling something was wrong, and quickly grasped some invisible force had deflected his attack.

Even though the form of “Ever changing blades” wasn’t a real cane, its essence as a “Threaded Cane” retained the enigmatic relic’s effects.

Henry’s luck was very good, he didn’t try to directly exert the effect on Shen Yi himself, but instead aimed at the “stick” as the main body, sparing himself from the full brunt of the attack.

His demeanor remained calm, yet his physical form began corroded, the hand clutching “Honesty and Lies” now dripping with crimson stains blood, a visible testament to the toll the relic was exacting upon his being.

Just as the tension reached its peak, Henry unexpectedly broke the silence, he started conversing with himself.

“It is indeed very strong. It is the aura of the Colorless City. I can feel it.”

“Next, I have to find a way to escape from here quickly. Just using that relic costed me a damn price. Although honesty and lies are quite effective, this price has always been very difficult to deal with.”

Shen Yi stood transfixed for a prolonged moment, his gaze fixed on Henry, who engaged in cryptic discourse with the mysterious artifact.

Puzzled by the sudden shift in Henry’s behavior and speech coupled with the event just now, a nagging suspicion began to take hold within Shen Yi – could this relentless banter be an indication of the steep price exacted by the relics?

Henry’s face was expressionless as he continued to mutter: “Yes, just as you thought, this is ‘honesty and lies’, the prices of this ring is one cannot hide any inner thoughts.”

“Damn it, I can’t go on thinking about it, but if I don’t use this mysterious relic, I’m totally screwed.”

Henry pulled out a pure white feather pen and began to write on the back of his hand, then he took a glance at him and bid his farewell with a hint of dark amusement.

“I’m leaving now. Goodbye, chess player. Haha, the Pseudo-God will take care of you for me anyway. Once the grand ascension plan succeeds, all your demise shall be inevitable.”

Shen Yi frowned. The pseudo-god’s plan to become a godhood had not been foiled yet.

As a member of the clandestine organization -Dust of No Light, which was related to the pseudo-gods, it was apparent that Henry possessed insider knowledge about the pseudo-gods’ grand designs.

A flicker of turmoil flashed across Henry’s countenance, yet the compulsion to divulge persisted as words continued to spill from his lips.

“The times will usher in a great change. The threat of the Extraterrestrial god will be eliminated. The ‘Writer’ will rewrite the entire world. Human society will no longer be as weak as it is today.”

He shook his head vehemently,  as if resisting revealing his true feelings, torn between obligation and secrecy.

“Damn, damn, damn the price of the relic.”

Frustration welled up inside him, a sense of urgency mounting as he grappled with the consequences.

Shen Yi grasping the key point immediately asked: “How are you going to leave? What is the specific effect of your mysterious relic?”

“Trying to get my words?”

“I will leave through this Distortion-level relic. Its effect is, well, the weather is really nice today. I’m going to enjoy cake in the rain, and I’d better put more sugar. Hehe, I won’t let you know the effect of this feather. By the way, the previous Invisibility Technique is going to be successfully activated.”

As Henry continued to confront the Shen Yi, it became abundantly clear that his skills were honed through self-training, a testament to his determination to divert his thoughts elsewhere.

“Take care of your little chess piece. She might be dying soon. Hahahahaha.”

To his provocation he remained calm, just raised his left hand and pointed it at him.

Unperturbed by the developments, Henry continued to write on his hand, his determination unwavering even in the face of impending danger. With a resolute tone, he uttered: “Lie, I will definitely be controlled or injured next.”

Stillness.

A brief moment of silence enveloped the room, even air seemed to pause as well as Henry with his mouth remained open, the feather pen in his hand paused midway.

Shen Yi, exhaling a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. It was only now he realized that mysterious relic had limitations it failed to immunize the power of the authority. He raised his cane again to strike once and all.

However, the fleeting sense of triumph was short-lived, shattered by the swift and decisive action of Henry, who defied the odds and deftly sprang into motion.

The members of the Salian family whether it’s Ennius or the patriarch Henry, all had distinctive black tattoos on their skin, which could be awakened as spells to be used in time.

Henry immediately awakened a commonly used intangible technique.

“Integrate.”

His body leaned back and disappeared into the wall.
