Chapter 400 Aren't We Just Going To Die?
Down on the lower floors, everyone could feel the tremors from the fight that was happening up on floor one hundred! The tremors from the explosions were too much for anyone to ignore and everyone knew that only Han could be responsible for this! This made a lot of people nervous as they all now knew that they would have to get ready to fight very soon. Many of the chosen were still in disbelief about a lot of the things that happened over the past two years. They have lived here for thousands of years and they never thought they would finally have a chance to leave this temple. It all seemed unreal!
Esterpth was also one of the chosen who was still wondering if all of this was real or not. Esteroth was very old! Almost five thousand years old! but even after all that time, he could still remember how things were when he first came to this temple. He was so excited and eager for power back then! He would fight anyone that challenged him and he always won no matter who it was! But, as time went on and he got older, he started to lose interest in everything. He spent years accumulating power, but it was never enough to take him to the hundredth floor. Almost like the creator was telling him that the wasn’t worthy!
Esteroth gave up on moving to a higher floor years ago, but now that Han was here, he suddenly had a feeling that it was possible again. This time, they might actually be able to do it!
But we have to be ready. It will be stupid if King Han goes through all this and he finds out that we are not ready yet when he comes down here! That will be an insult to all the hard work that we put into this mission. We have to prepare the army for the fight that’s coming.
Esteroth always knew that a time would come for them to have a battle that would decide the fate of the entire temple! He didn’t think that it would happen so soon, but it didn’t matter to him! Esteroth was the sort of person that would fight anyone in front of him! If the Celestials are the ones that he has to fight then so be it!
Esteroth called a meeting of all the other kings in the temple. Esteroth was the second king in the temple under Han, so when he called all the other kings, they had no choice but to respond to him.
Quinthreath was one of the first kings to arrive at the meeting place. He already knew exactly why they were being called and he couldn’t deny that he was a little nervous about the coming fight. He didn’t let his nerves show on his face because he is a king and he has to show a strong resolve for his subjects, but anyone will be scared if they are faced with these sorts of odds. Quinthreath was there when Paladin came down to the temple with his androids and Quinthreath could still remember how difficult it was for them to take down even one of those androids! It took at least five black stars to fight a single android, and sometimes, they would still lose!
Those androids were not the strongest Celestials! Some celestials are far stronger than that! If they begin this fight against the Celestials, it was obvious that they would be fighting against beings that were far out of their league! Quinthreath didn’t even want to think about the fact that the celestials were literally immortal. King Han said he had a plan for that, so he would trust Han.
King Han and Esteroth might be able to put up a good fight against the strongest Celestials, but that wasn’t enough to reduce the nervousness in Quinthreath. Quinthreath has lived for a very long time and he never once thought about the possibility of dying because he already decided that he would live in the temple forever. But now that he had a chance to leave the temple, he didn’t want to let it go. Even if I die, wouldn’t it be worth it in the end?
“You’re all here. That’s good.”
Esteroth’s voice grabbed Quinthreath away from his thoughts and the magician looked up at Esteroth. Esteroth was looking serious for the first time in a very long time. Quinthreath was already used to seeing Esteroth with a bloodthirsty grin on his face whenever it comes down to a fight. Esteroth loved to fight and he thrived in the feeling of battle.
But it was obvious that this time things were different! Esteroth has an intense look in his eyes and there wasn’t a single shred of excitement to be seen on his face! It seems that Esteroth also realized the seriousness of the situation! This isn’t a fight that you walk into with excitement.
They were going to fight against the people that gave them their powers and it was not going to be an easy fight by any means. Esteroth looked at all the eight kings standing in front of him and he nodded when he saw they were all listening.
“I’m not going to sugarcoat it, so just listen to me for the next few minutes before you say anything. The next few days are probably going to be the last calm moment you will ever have. I’m talking to you first because you are kings. The other chosen in this temple don’t really know what king Han is doing for us, so if they hear this, they will probably riot and try to rebel, but you know what we’ve gone through to get here. You know the sweat and blood that we all poured into making sure that we reach this far.”
Esteroth took a moment to calm himself and Quinthreath turned to the side to look at Ai. Quinthreath has known Ai all his life. She was one of the people that he formed a guild with when he was just a gold star and she was also there when they both made it into the realm of white stars. They’ve known each other for more than five thousand years, but Quinthreath has never seen Ai this nervous before. Her hands were folded across her body and Quinthreath knew that she was doing it so no one would see how much her hands were shaking.
Ai was nervous about all of this. But just the thought that they were going to fight Celestials was enough to make anyone nervous, so Quinthreath understood.
“We don’t all have the strength that king Han possesses, so many of us will definitely die in the coming war. But we don’t have a choice. Prepare the troops and stop all training. There’s nothing much that can be done in the next few days so there’s no point in them training anymore. Instead, make them go home to see their families. Give them good food and allow them to rest and enjoy themselves. For most of us, this is the end, so allow your troops to live for some time. King Han should be done with the temple before the week is over, so keep in mind that he is bringing an army to us soon,”
“And what about the gold and silver stars on the lower floors?”
Esteroth looked towards Aria, the fairy king when she said this. Esteroth was surprised that Aria would be the one to bring up this topic. This was something that everyone has been thinking about for a long time. The chosen on the lower floors were weak. So weak that they won’t be able to put up a fight against a single celestial even if they fought with a hundred gold stars.
But that was the problem! No one wants to go and die for them. Why should the white stars and black stars go and fight against the Celestials while those fucking gold stars stay here where it is safe just because they are weak? Everyone will be risking their lives and those on the lower floors will be relaxing? It was bullshit!
This was something that everyone thought about but they never really brought it up because it was crazy to expect the gold stars to fight at all. They can’t put up a good fight so it will just be like sending a thousand rabbits to fight a hundred lions.
Esteroth never thought that Aria would bring it up. Everyone knew Aria to be a calm and secluded elf. She was beautiful and introverted, so no one really bothered her on her floor until Han destroyed it. Now that she didn’t have a floor to live on anymore, she stayed in Esteroth’s castle as a guest. In all that time, Esteroth hasn’t seen her more than three times! And all of them was when King Han came to visit her. She didn’t bother coming out for anyone but him. So hearing something so controversial from her was surprising. It seems that the upcoming fight is affecting everyone in the temple. It is even making Aria more ruthless.
Esteroth clicked his tongue and scratched the back of his head while talking in annoyance.
“I understand where you’re coming from, but if we add them to the plan then we will just be sending them to die. And it will add unnecessary weight to our troops,”
“Aren’t we already going to die either way? Everyone on the upper floors has accepted that this is a battle where they can die. It doesn’t really matter to them because they know what they are fighting for. But they will not fight if they know there are others who are sitting back and relaxing in the middle of this storm,”
Aria said this with a frown and Esteroth could see the other kings nodding their heads in agreement. Aria was right and Esteroth knew it! He knew that there was no way the others on the upper floor would be happy if they hear that those on the lower floors don’t get to fight as well. But it would be a bloodbath if the gold and silver stars are put into the battle! What exactly will they be able to do!? They’ll just stand there and get killed by a stray skill before they can do anything!
Quinthreath spoke up before things could get any more heated. He could already sense an argument coming and he didn’t think this was the right time to start having an internal conflict. Everyone was tense and nervous and it would be detrimental to start fighting now.
“I think we should just give them weapons. There are many artifacts that can increase your stats and level by a lot. We can find people who are willing to pass on some artifacts and give them to the strongest gold stars. The silver stars will be impossible to help, but I think my magicians can make a hundred thousand gold stars strong enough to not die on the first hit. And besides, one of Han’s wives, Yuuma, is currently creating weapons that would help us in the fight, so we shouldn’t be too worried about the gold stars. They can be in charge of operating the weapons instead of being on the front lines,”
Once Quinthreath said this, Ratte closed his eyes and sighed internally. He couldn’t believe they were even talking about this. They were all going up there to die and these fools are arguing about giving artifacts to weaklings. What is the point of having a strong artifact if you are too weak to even wield it properly?
Ratte was the only person that really knew what the Celestials were like. Ratte has interacted with a true Celestial before and he knows that Paladin was not even close to Yggrain in terms of strength. There is nothing that a gold star can do against someone like that. The only thing waiting for them is death.
But as long as there are more bodies between Ratte and the other celestials, he doesn’t mind! Bring them all if you want to! I’ll just push them toward the danger so that I don’t die!
The thing that shocked Ratte the most was the fact that no one was even thinking for a moment that Han might fail! The amount of trust they have in Han’s strength was so great that they have already decided in their minds that he can never fail to pass the test in this temple. Ratte also knows that Han has a high possibility of passing, but he wasn’t going to put all his hope on Han. That is why Ratte was grateful that he is still on good terms with the Celestials.
If Han dares to fail, then Ratte will change sides faster than anyone could blink!
