Chapter 26
He stretched out his hand towards the horde only to retract it, as the abnormal lunged at it. Once again, it had barely grazed his arm.
Gray had retreated so far that he had just about reached the end of the hall. Behind him was the windows which led to a 15 floor drop. No normal person would survive a fall from that height.
But that didn't occur to Gray at all. All which was on his mind was that he had to stop them, all of them.
The other zombies were just about to catch up with Gray and the abnormal who were still at it one on one, when all of the sudden-
Gray turned around, rushing as fast as he could towards the window. It had shattered open when the large flying mutated zombie had entered.
During that moment, one of the doors from one of the rooms opened, and a grown man emerged, Gray barely got a look of his face as he rushed past, but he heard him clearly as he asked. "What's happening?"
The zombies behind him, rushed at him as if starving predators doing everything in their power to not lose track of their prey.
"Get inside!" Said Gray as he rushed by.
Following that, Gray could hear screams of pain as a man cried out for help. His mind was completely focused on getting up the floors however to look back and worry about others.
'I'm sorry.' He thought to himself.
By the time they had caught up to Gray, he had already jumped out.
The zombies, including the abnormal, following after in hopes to somehow catch him, were left clueless as they fell to their deaths, his figure being nowhere in sight.
Meanwhile, Gray could be seen running up the building walls, just above the window. Right after he had jumped, he had created a platform and leapt off of it onto the walls. While falling to their deaths, the zombies watched the back of Gray's figure.
Gray was so focused on climbing up the floors before the zombies that he didn't even bother to look back and confirm their deaths. Gray could hear the sounds of screams coming from inside the building as he ascended.
'There were other people hiding inside the apartment as i suspected...' He concluded.
By repeatedly pausing and unpausing his feet in a timely manner just as he had done before, he was able to run up the wall.
'Faster... Faster!'
[Would you like to allocate 4 stat points into agility?]
Placing points would result in his speed increasing and the timing of his pauses would change, increasing his likeliness to fall. Despite knowing that-
"Yeah!" He said, panting as he continued to run.
[Applied]
He had just about reached floor 17 by the time he replied. He noticed a sudden change in his speed as they came into contact with the walls at a much faster rate, because of the increase.
Despite that, he was able to adapt, quickly changing the timing as he did so.
'One.. Two- One-"
Gray's concentration was interrupted as a figure could be seen heading straight at him from above. It moved incredibly fast, so fast that before Gray had even realised it, they were about to collide-
With his heart almost pounding out of his chest, Gray did a backflip off the wall onto a platform which he had created, watching as the figure passed right by.
It was the ptearodactyl looking zombie from before. Without giving the flying mutated zombie any extra attention, Gray leapt back onto the building, continuing his sprint.
Another two flying mutated zombies could be seen heading down on him from above, while another three circled the air above the building.
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!" Gray shouted, barely avoiding collision with the first one, as he leapt to the side, pausing himself to hold himself in place upon doing so.
Instead of moving again to dodge the second one however, he swung his blade down in front of him, pausing the slash upon doing so.
The flying mutated zombie, prepared for collision thrust it's peck forward aiming to pierce Gray.
The outcome however, was it's blood spilling on Gray as it's severed body, passed right by him. It came into contact with his paused slash, causing it to split directly in half.
[You have slain a Mutated Level 1 Flying Zombie]
[You have received 8 XP]
[Congratulations, You have levelled up!]
As Gray resumed his run, the notification rang inside of his head. In that instant.
*CRACKLE!* *BWOOSH!*
From the window of the 20th floor, a large Ice spike could be seen as it expanded out, peircing through it.
'Aurora!'
Gray no longer had a way in as it was blocked by the ice. Seeing this, He changed his plan. He passed right by it, heading straight for the rooftop.
As he reached the top, and jumped over the edge, his eyes widened.
A strong breeze blew by, the young boy could be seen standing above a pool of blood filled with a small pile of sliced up flying mutated zombie corpses. His sister was fast asleep on his back, the wind in the area was gathering around them almost as if trying to shield them.
The young boy was clearly at his limits, he panted heavily struggling to hold his consciousness, but despite it all, he had stood his ground. Two of the three flying mutated zombies charged at the two of them.
The young boy was completely out of energy, he stretched out his arm to propel a blade of wind at them, however it was useless. He could do nothing but drop to his knees as he awaited his death.
"Sorry… Sis…" He muttered, closing his eyes as he held her tight, as if using his remaining strength to shield her.
He was genuinely convinced it was the end.
However it had never come. Instead-
"Save your breath and get up."
A familiar voice rang inside of his ears.
Confused, he opened his eyes, only to find Gray standing there with a kitchen knife. The decapitate corpses of both mutated zombies could be seen on the floor behind him.
Upon seeing this, his heart dropped. Not in fear but admiration. At that moment, for the kid, Gray looked like the most badass guy in the world.
"Where's Aurora?" Gray asked with cold eyes.
The young boy suddenly snapping out of his thoughts, struggled to speak up as he pointed behind Gray, his arms trembling whilst doing so.
He was trying to warn Gray of the approaching threat. The last remaining flying zombie mutation was heading straight at him at an incredibly fast speed.
"B-Behind you!" The kid shouted.
Without turning back, Gray swung his knife backwards. The swing had missed by quite a margin. But in that instant, as the flying mutated zombie just passed by where Gray had swung, it's body was cleanly severed in half.
"Where is she?" Gray asked once more, his eyes as cold as ice.
