Chapter 58
58 Chapter 57: A strong foe
“You finally figured it out. It’s sad you know this because it means I really have to kill you” Damon said with a face void of any form of emotions.
His eyes fell on the three-tailed fox as he walked forward. The dried up corpses could be seen on the ground and Damon just walked past them as if they were nothing.
“If you are a host then you should know they are the enemy! Everyone wants you dead so why protect them?” The three-tailed fox spirit asked with a frown.
She seemed reluctant to fight Damon now, leaving Damon a bit confused by the sudden change.
“Most people are misled by the royal family and the upper echelon of the kingdom. They make normal people believe we guardian spirit hosts are the worst. You can’t really blame the average man’s reaction to our existence since they only act on what they know and they were told we are the bad guys. You are proving them right” Damon said coldly
It was clear he wasn’t speaking or doing these things out of a strong sense of justice, instead, it was simply because he really believed these people have done nothing to them.
“I knew the previous death guardian spirit host. She was amazing and the most reasonable human I came across. I was only a one-tailed fox spirit at that time but I didn’t kill humans because of her... I dedicated my life to her and she dedicated hers to this kingdom but the same kingdom she tried to protect turned on her, tortured her for years before killing her and you expect me not to kill them?” The lady growled fiercely. Tears ran down her eyes while she told her story.
“Hmph!” Damon wasn’t moved at all.
If she thought calling the previous host will have any effect on Damon they were wrong.
.....
“The last guardian died because she was dumb. She trusted you and the humans. I guess her trust was misplaced on both sides” Damon responded coldly.
His words were like daggers which stabbed deep into the heart of the enemy!
“You!”
Boom!
The three-tailed fox spirit growled in anger as her aura exploded fiercely and she raced forward violently. Seeing her approach, Damon remained unmoved as he casually opened up his clenched palm and a deep cut appeared on his wrists causing blood to squirt out!
Blood control!
Damon’s darkish purple eyes briefly revealed a shade of red as his blood gathered at him and shot forward like a spear!
Swoosh!
A timely side step was all that was needed to evade the blood attack. The three-tailed Fox spirit quickly brandished her claw at Damon, releasing waves of grey fire!
Boom!
Upon collision, a massive body of dust was raised but even then Damon did not move. The dust was blown away by a strong breeze that followed, revealing Damon in sturdy bone armor and a helmet in his free arm.
“If this is how you plan to kill me, then you are wasting your time” Damon shook his head as he spoke.
The blood spear quickly returned to his side and quickly snuck into a hole in the armor. The next thing was blood squirting out of the armor holes and merging with the bone armor to create a red bone armor.
“Blood magic: Blood armor” Damon muttered. He seemed unfocused and oblivious to things happening around him and only focused on casting his spells.
Meanwhile, the three-tailed fox lady was shocked by Damon’s ability to take a direct hit from her without taking any damage. She retreated a bit before her body exploded into a body of grey flames and from it, a fox massive fox spirit emerged.
The spirit was over 6ft in height when standing on all fours. No one knew how huge it would be if it stood on its hind legs alone. On its white fur were numerous grey patterns complimenting its grey eyes!
It became obvious that the lady had no intentions of holding back, especially since she is going against the death mage!
“We can end the ritual here and leave. No one has to get hurt but if you push me any further, I will have you realize the death Magic does not make you invincible.
“Don’t be stupid. There is no doubt that no one is truly invincible in this one. But at the same time, Death is the absolute. You cannot win” Damon said coldly as his shadow expanded and from it, he pulled out what seemed like a bone scythe like the one held by the grim reaper.
The moment he put on his helmet, Damon’s aura went through an immense change. He was no longer a kid with a terrifying magic. He looked like a death knight sent to steal the souls of the living!
A chilling air erupted from his body, spreading across the entire battlefield as the two stood waiting for the other to make a move but no one moved. With his death magic, even at his best, Damon only possessed the strength to go against any other exalted human without fear. But that also means exalted humans have a chance of taking his life as well so he couldn’t get reckless!
...............
Meanwhile, as soon as she got far enough, Lucy ran back to the dormitory. She didn’t stop running until she walked into the castle belonging to the chosen. Only then could she heave a sigh of relief but even then she couldn’t help but worry about Damon.
She knew Damon only asked her to leave because he didn’t want her to get in both the fight and the aftermath, this was his way of protecting her.
Unlike the fox spirits which possess the body of a normal human, Basilisks are like werewolves. They don’t possess bodies, they aren’t actual spirits either. They are humans with supernatural abilities and just like a human she could have feelings. Especially for someone currently for her sake.
She sat beside his door in silence, determined to wait till he returns.
.........
Damon stood with a stern look on his face as he gazed at the massive grey wolf. Its strength was far beyond what any student in their academy can handle yet he is able to stand face to face with it fearlessly.
Voices and creepy thoughts kept creeping into his mind and the black cracks on his face kept spreading while his face was getting paler! Deep down in his heart, Damon knew he killed students but he didn’t feel a thing about it. Instead, he found it amusing and considered this normal.
The effects of using the death magic were getting harsher and it was a lot harder to control now. Voices of the dead filled his ears and if not for his intense concentration, Damon would have gone crazy by now.
In all the noise he could still listen to his own thoughts properly. He decided it would be best to end this battle as soon as possible because he wasn’t sure how much longer he would be able to retain his sanity!
Boom!
The red knight suddenly shot forward with the bone scythe in his hands! Arriving in the blink of an eye, he tightened his grip on the bone scythe as he brandished it at the enemy!
Peng!
Peng!
Contrary to Damon’s expectations the enemy force did not even attempt to retreat. The grey fox quickly brandished its claws at the bone scythe. Its physical strength surpassed that of Damon. Slowly but steadily, Damon was getting forced back with each hit.
He retreated a few steps at first but soon his retreat was hastened. To think he would ever meet someone who can face his death magic head on without fear!
“Hmph!” Damon snorted disdainfully as he tightened his grip on the hilt of his weapon and the blood surging at the surface of his bone armored shoot forward in the form of countless red strings racing towards the massive grey fox!
Roar!
Following its furious scream was a terrible shockwave infused with the power of the grey flames! Damon was knocked off his feet and thrown a few meters back!
Die!
The grey fox didn’t hesitate to take advantage of that opportunity to strike first. It swung its claws shrouded by grey flames like a divine hammer about to carry out justice!
“This!”
Boom!
Damon raised his hand and weapon and took a direct hit which made His feet sink unit the ground while the ground trembled and shattered. The fiery purple eyes within the bone helmet lit up and darkish purple flames surged at the edges of the weapon!
Bang!
An explosion rocked everything ahead of Damon but the grey fox wasn’t there.
Seemingly expecting that attack, it was able to act beforehand and retreat safely leaving Damon to wonder how something so big can move so fast.
He silently agreed that he looked down on this fox spirit a little bit, especially since it’s yet to use its main powers since the transformation.
