Paragon of Death

Chapter 54

54 Chapter 53: Sacrificial magic

Damon frowned at the strange situation as he pondered on a few things which made him reluctant to throw himself into an enemy foothold.

The fact they were completely able to hide out the stench from the rest of the academy meant they had put up some sort of formation that can hide them. If it could hide them from the eyes of the Archmage or bishop, it will definitely be able to prevent Damon from calling the Archmage. He was already too close.

Damon swallowed deep and smiled. He didn’t know much about formations but he knew one thing for sure, formations and seals can sometimes be a double-edged sword. Most times it will help but sometimes it becomes a curse.

He didn’t want to go deep into the thought so he gulped in as much air as possible before walking up the stairs. Without hesitation, Damon slipped through the small opening between the doors and shut it tight. Whatever is happening here has no business with the outside world, so he plans to keep it that way.

As soon as he turned he was shocked by what he saw. The class had a hexagonal shape and on each of the six points were students dressed in grey attire with the black hood draped over their heads, making it impossible to see their faces.

On the ceiling, at the center of the classroom was what seemed like a massive formation drawn with blood. Within it was twirling darkness which seemed to have a very powerful suction force but Damon could barely feel its effects.

His eyes squinted as he peeped deeper, only to see a massive eyeball hidden within the darkness, gazing at him coldly!

“Sacrificial magic...” Damon gasped in shock and covered his mouth in shock. He may not have seen this magic getting used in person before but as the wielder of the death magic, he had a rare understanding and feeling of all forms of dark magic.

This was not an exception.

.....

Only then did he notice a figure lying on the ground with an extremely pale look on her face. Her green hair was messed up, slightly dyed red with blood, and on her forehead was a symbol similar to the formation on the ceiling.

“Lucy...” Damon muttered in complete shock as he staggered forward in shock slowly.

His eyes ignored everything else as he crouched and took her into his arms.

“Damon... you came?” Lucy slowly opened her eyes and caught sight of Damon.

He seemed perfectly fine which was quite shocking to start with. She explained that when she came, immediately she got within a certain range of the building this strange mark was carved into her forehead by an unknown force and she felt her power draining.

She tried to leave but there was an invisible barrier around the building. Once you walk in, you can forget about walking out. With her powers getting drained, she couldn’t just wait for death so she called out to him before entering here.

“But how are you not affected?” Lucy asked with a confused look on her face covered which only made Damon smile.

“I told you I’m not just a werewolf. This is sacrificial magic, aimed at draining people of their power and potential until they are husks and die... Last time I checked, you need to replicate this same formation somewhere enclosed and trapped with so many people. So where is the second formation?” Damon asked but he wasn’t talking to Lucy.

His eyes peered into the darkness, gazing at the figures hidden within. Realizing that Damon could actually see them, they were all left dumbfounded but they weren’t too disturbed to start with. In their eyes, they have already won.

“Not only are you not affected by the formation but you can sense our presence within all of this. What you said is true, you are not just a wolf. Even a lone wolf isn’t capable of this. So what are you?” A lady stepped out of the darkness with only light white pieces of clothes which were semi-transparent, covering her private parts but since it was too light, Damon could see her private parts.

On her back were three tails wiggling excitedly like that of a dog which made Damon frown. A fox spirit’s strength is gauged by the number of tails they have, with nine being the highest and one being the lowest.

A three-tailed fox spirit was no different from a cultivated at the peak of the human realm and just a step away from entering the next cultivation realm. The gap between the warrior realm and the human realm is not something that is crossed easily, just by anyone.

In fact, the jump from one realm to another is not something that just anyone can do. It requires a major boost and a terrifying amount of resources, that’s why a lot of people don’t make it past the human realm!

Without being told, Damon understood the intentions of the enemy and chuckled but he also wondered how dumb and confident some people may be. You set up such a powerful formation which can hide from someone as powerful as the Archmage, yet it doesn’t work for a mere student like him and you are not bothered.

Excessive confidence can be a bad thing!

He glanced around and could tell there were more people waiting in the darkness. These fox spirits were within the range of one to two tails in terms of strength. But Damon wasn’t too worried because he believed that as long as they weren’t up to four tails which is the warrior realm, he should be able to deal with them.

“So where is the second formation located?” Damon asked casually as he carried Lucy in her arms, making the dying girl blush.

“Your fight with the two fighter academy chosen was a major win for the mage academy so we invited many students for a party just the hall across the street... They are all in there having the fun of their lives, not knowing this will be their last.” The three-tailed fox spirit laughed.
