Paragon of Death

Chapter 27

Chapter 27: Chapter 26: Secret of death magic

“I know you are the tough lone wolf type of guy but I will be honest with you, you cannot survive alone” Gin said with a cruel smile on his face.

“What do you mean?” Damon asked. He could tell Gin knew more and he felt this would be a good opportunity to get some information, outside what death provides then match the stories.

“I’m saying every single guardian spirit host has been killed off.... Those who managed to keep themselves hidden before reaching a level in this world were murdered by the joint forces of the empire. My family has always housed the hosts of the force guardian spirit. That’s why they wiped them all out. They simply left me alive because they still need someone who can craft magic weapons... unknown to them, the guardian spirit that once resided in my brother quickly chose me. They suspect my offspring will be the new host, unknown to them the host is already here..” Gin said with a sly smile but for some reason, Damon could sense all the pain and bitterness hidden away in his heart.

Now he thinks about it he can sense the negative emotions buried in the depths of a person. Unfortunately, things like this come with a price. He is forced to go through that emotion as well. That’s why he could see the fierce eyes hidden away in the mischievous smile.

“That explains why you are able to use so many magic gears. As we all know magic gears require mana to sustain. The guardian’s host of force allows the user to manipulate mana in its raw form. That way you can draw unlimited mana and use it to utilize the control of the magic gears.” Cyrus said with a shocked look on his face.

“You have sharp eyes... I guess I shouldn’t underestimate any of you people” Gin said with a smile.

“Anyway, you finally know why we have to stick together no matter what. The previous guardian spirit hosts were powerful but they were overwhelmed by the joint might of the world. This time we can’t afford to make such a mistake... We have become a team and formed a force capable of rivaling the world if necessary!” Gin said coldly but Damon frowned.

.....

Damon frowned at this because this is the most obvious situation and no matter what they always come up with, the end result requires them to work together as a team. It felt more like their fate was been pushed in a certain direction and Damon didn’t like that at all.

He leaned back on the desk and considered some things in silence for a while before turning his attention to Gin and Cyrus.

“We will work together only when necessary and keep a healthy but distant relationship to avoid the eyes of others. No more killing of teammates, Gin. Stay put and let us work with anyone on the team. Doing that will also get their attention. With all that said we already know the ground rules for our cooperation. Now get the hell out of my room” Damon said coldly.

........

After they left, Damon heaved out a sigh of relief as his purple eyes quickly lit up with power and he gripped his chest. He didn’t want to show it to everyone around since he really didn’t trust them much and he had no intentions of talking with death about it.

The power of death is quite different from what most people think or at least what they are told. He has watched the life and times of the previous hosts and he understood one thing about most of them, they are dumb.

Death magic is like an addictive drug. The power is something hard to suppress when used and it makes people more reliant on it. After casting his first spell, he realized something different between him and the other hosts.

While the other hosts before him tried to keep the power in check which is why they all had red eyes because they were battling both their demons and the enemy. When Damon was about to cast the spell he felt the death power try to overwhelm him. It was intoxicating and the first thing that came to his mind was to fight it but as time progressed he realized something wrong.

Why would you fight against your power and expect a positive outcome?

What stops him from simply accepting it and becoming a part of it?

Many would try to block away from the voices in their head when using the power but he decided to pay attention. He could hear the voice speak and he could feel its pain. With the pain, he understood the roots of the magic and quickly became one with it.

Using this method after killing more people would be difficult but cool and Damon did not mind. As for his new team, he was still a bit skeptical. From here on out, they will be assigned tasks, so he needs to find a way to work with them while focusing on himself too.

As much as having a team sounds awesome, personal growth is also necessary for survival. His eyes revealed the purple flash again as he lay on his bed with a cruel smile. This world is beginning to get a bit dangerous and interesting.

For some reason, Damon knew he would enjoy his stay in the academy well. His palm opened as a darkish purple smoke emerged surging around his hand in circles and when it vanished a bone dagger was created.

“As long as I’m willing to accept the power I can hide its aura to a degree. At least, it won’t be spreading ridiculously like before making it useable” Damon commented.

As long as no one is close, they won’t be able to tell what magic he is using. Or maybe at least if they don’t have a strong perception, they won’t be able to tell.

<<You only used it for the first time and you already realized the secrets of the death magic. You are going to grow and become a terrifying monster in human clothing. Just like me" Death finally spoke up in his head.
