Chapter 58: Arranging a Ceasefire
Chapter 58: Arranging a Ceasefire
The ladies rose up into the air carried by flying figurehead Cabernet.
She dropped them off at the top of the beanstalk which did not take very long to reach.
With a cursory search with her Life Sense, Cherry quickly located the cloud iron box tucked away inside a carved out portion of the giant vine.
Naturally, she was able to do so because the contents of the box gave of a vital energy signature. One identical to that of an uneaten devil fruit.
Cherry pulled the box out of the vine and inspected it. It appeared to be locked, but that wasn't a huge issue.
Cherry positioned the box so she could rip it open, but Serene stopped her at this moment. She held up some lock picking tools and appeared to be quite smug about them.
"Alright you can give it a try, but if you fail you're going to be punished." Cherry said, which wiped the smug grin off her face, replacing it with trepidation.
Serene worked away at the lock with nervous sweat beading on her brow. With each minute that passed she grew less patient and more frustrated, glancing at Cherry from time to time as if to make sure she wasn't going to do anything to her.
After about 3 minutes, she did manage to get the box unlocked and heaved a sigh of relief. She slumped backwards, which normally wouldn't have been an issue, but she was currently standing with quite the fall directly behind her.
As she remembered this fact, she began to panic and desperately flailed her arms trying to regain her balance. She was not very successful in that endeavor, but fortunately Robin created some arms to catch her at the last moment.
Serene blushed with embarrassment.
While Serene had been picking the lock, a battle had been raging far below them. It hadn't calmed down at all and in fact was becoming quite a bit more violent.
Explosions rang out from the battlefield as the Shandians arrived to interrupt God Gan Fall and Enel's fight. It quickly devolved into a 3 way free for all.
Cherry turned her attention away from the battlefield and to the now open box.
Inside rested the devil fruit which appeared to be a blue pineapple with a lightning shaped stem that glowed slightly.
Naturally Cherry recognized this fruit and Robin recognized it as well. This was a famous devil fruit after all, one of the few that are called "invincible". This was the Rumble Rumble Fruit, a logia fruit that turned one into a lightning human.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
The title of invincible was a bit of an exaggeration though. One could only really be invincible in the lower powered seas and only if you were lucky enough not to run into a big shot. In the right hands it would be terribly difficult to deal with, however.
Cherry was kind of disappointed that this wasn't the first fruit she had found. Still, feeding it to her sword was a close second, though she would have to wait to make the most of it when she was close to perfecting the Spirit Root Realm.
'I wonder if I can work out a way to utilize the devil fruit abilities of my blood bound artifacts? I'll have to be very cautious, don't want to accidentally blow myself up with a devil fruit clash.
Cherry gave the box to Cabernet to store in her figurehead form, instructed her not to transform into her human form with the box stored within her under any circumstances. That may count as "eating" the devil fruit and cause a clash as well.
Cherry once more peered down at the battle raging below. "I suppose I should do something about that. It's not really my favorite thing to get involved in politics, but I suppose I can give it a shot."
Cabernet brought them down, dropping them off a little ways away from the battle, which happened to be where Cherry had exited the golden city previously.
Cherry opened up the path she had carved into the island cloud and motioned for the other three to enter. "I'll come pick you guys up in a bit, enjoy sight seeing in a ruin almost untouched by human hands for centuries."
Robin looked visibly excited at the prospect, but then quirked an eyebrow at "almost untouched". She wouldn't let them bother her too much though, few ruins were very well preserved and hadn't already been robbed my those with lesser educations.
Cherry closed up the path behind them and made her way towards the battlefield.
...
Gan Fall was feeling pressured now. His fight against Enel had been more equal than he'd hoped and his mysterious spear was able to harm him despite his power.
Then the Shandians just had to show up at right this moment and make things even more chaotic. Their leader, Wyper, was also able to make him tangible with his cloud skates, which was pretty dangerous considering he also possess a reject dial. Though Gan Fall doubted he could take the backlash more than a few times without dying.
The battle came to another equilibrium, although more precarious than it had been before.
A shout louder than what any normal human would be capable rang out causing everyone to pause and look.
"Hey, losers! Quit your fighting before I kick all of your pitiful asses!" Cherry shouted.
Many furrowed brows ensued and the people resumed their fighting.
Cherry considered that was ample warning and would not give any further chances. They could only blame themselves for the pain that was to come.
Cherry began her dark work. No longer did she hold back her strength.
Gan Fall, Enel, and Wyper were clashing violently, leaving no room for error.
"Ahem." Cherry cleared her throat nearby.
Glances at her, their eyes widened at the sight of every other combatant lying unmoving on the ground.
'It's only been less than a minute since she appeared! What sort of monster is she?!' Wyper exclaimed in his mind.
Gan Fall and Enel were also somewhat shocked, as they reevaluated her capabilities.
"Are you going to stop, or are you going to make me make you stop?" Cherry asked.
Wyper turned his burn bazooka towards her and fired a column of white-blue fire at her, disintegrating the island cloud that it touches.
Nothing remained in the trajectory of its path.
A sharp pain erupted over his entire right leg and Wyper fell over.
"You got two warnings and wasted both. Do not blame me for being merciless." Cherry said, looking down upon his coldly.
Her fist collided with his face and his brain bounced around in his skull, rendering him
unconscious.
Enel and Gan Fall contemplated their options. Cherry had moved absurdly fast and judging by Wyper's floppy right leg, had pulverized his leg bones in one move.
Gan Fall did not entertain any thought of surrender, however, and attacked Enel. He did not believe Cherry had a method to harm him, but Enel did.
"Damn it, you crazy old man! Do you think I'm the biggest problem here?!" Enel swore to himself that he'd teach this geezer a lesson when he got a hold of Birka's Treasure.
"Hmph, that little girl cannot contend with God-OOF!" Gan Fall received a drop kick into his
back.
Naturally Cherry had included Armament Haki in the kick, to make sure it hurt. "You'll be feeling that in the morning, you old coot!"
Cherry drew her gun and pointed it at Enel. "Just so you know, this is a custom pistol. It won't
just point a little hole in you."
Enel smiled with some unwillingness and dropped his spear, raising his hands.
"I'm glad that you have at least half a brain, friend." Cherry smirked. "Let's get a little parley going then, shall we?"
