Chapter 217

C217 – Don’t be Shameless

Other parents with children followed suit, reluctantly disciplining their kids to avoid suspicion.

“Smack—Smack—Smack!”

Suddenly, the area was filled with the sounds of spanking, children’s cries, and adults’ scolding.

Jiang Hao thought he had been subtle, but his actions were still misunderstood.

Feeling helpless, he quickly tried to intervene.

Just then, a little girl, unable to bear her parents’ harsh punishment, blurted out a confession.

“It wasn’t Lele who did it; it was Jiang Xiaolong!”

Her words immediately captured everyone’s attention.

All eyes turned to the Jiang Xiaolong the little girl had mentioned.

The heavily made-up woman’s face turned pale, and she confronted the little girl.

“Jiang Lele, did you see my Xiaolong scratch the car? You little liar, don’t falsely accuse people!”

The little girl, scared, hid behind her mother and said in a low voice,

“Mommy, Lele’s not lying. I saw Xiaolong scratching it with a piece of metal!”

After her confession, several other children chimed in.

“I saw it too!”

“Me too, he still has the metal piece in his pocket!”

……

The children’s testimonies convinced most of the onlookers.

Seeing this, the woman with heavy makeup realized she couldn’t deny it and adopted a defiant attitude.

“So what if my Xiaolong did it? What’s it to you? It’s just an old car. Who told him to park it here?”

She ranted, pulling out a hundred yuan and tossing it on the ground.

“You’re just trying to scam us, mother and son!”

“I’ve been through this too many times. Here’s a hundred yuan; that should more than cover your car’s paint job!”

“Hmph, when my Dalong hears about this, I’ll make sure he knows what happened today!”

“Come on, Xiaolong, we’re going home!”

With that, the woman grabbed the mischievous child and stormed off.

Behind her, the other villagers bristled with anger upon hearing the woman’s words. Yet, the mention of Jiang Daloong’s name seemed to cast a shadow of fear over them, forcing them to swallow their fury and watch as the woman walked away.

Jiang Daloong was the notorious bully of Jiang Village, a man who had been a troublemaker since his youth, leading a gang with over a dozen followers. He was a reckless brute, infamous for once snapping a man’s leg for a slight offense. After serving three to four years in prison, he emerged unreformed, rallying a crew to extort protection money. His visits to Jiang Village were infrequent, about once or twice a month, which only added to the villagers’ apprehension at the mention of his name.

Jiang Hao had been ready to let the incident slide, but the woman’s grating words and the dismissive way she tossed down a hundred yuan ignited his anger. “Who said you could leave!?” he demanded.

The woman turned to face Jiang Hao with a sneer. “What’s the matter? Is a hundred yuan not enough for you? Looking to squeeze out more?”

Jiang Hao fought back the impulse to lash out and responded, “I was already aware of the situation with your child. My intention was merely to give a warning, not to pursue the matter further.”

“But you, knowing full well you were at fault, couldn’t even muster an apology and instead chose to belittle me!”

“If that’s how you want to play it, if you’re going to be so brazen, then we’ll handle this by the book!” With that, under the watchful eyes of the onlookers, Jiang Hao opened his car door and retrieved two documents from inside.
