Chapter 42: 42 Feeding the Baby
Lin Yi quickly reacted and then retreated, making sure to close the door behind him.
In recent days, everyone in the family had to knock before entering Han Xuewei's room, for fear of inconveniencing her. Lin Yi, too excited, had forgotten to do so.
A moment later, Han Xuewei called out to the hallway, "Come in!"
Only then did Lin Yi carefully push the door open, his heart sighing with relief.
Han Xuewei's mood didn't seem to fluctuate much, and her flushed face gradually returned to normal, indicating she didn't blame him much.
Han Xuewei turned her head and said, "Just hand me the daughter."
Lin Yi nodded in response, his expression still slightly awkward.
He nodded vaguely, uttering an agreement.
Immediately after, he passed the daughter to his wife's embrace, the thick scent of milk assailing his nose; it was identical to the one emanating from his daughter, truly intoxicating!
Lin Yi tiptoed out of his wife's room and gently closed the door.
Yet the image he'd seen when he opened the door kept replaying in his mind.
Lin Yi shook his head quickly, dismissing all thoughts that had arisen at that moment, and returned to the room where his two sons were sleeping.
When Lin Yi returned, the two boys were already feeding, their eyes half-closed, looking utterly content.
"Come on, let me feed them." Lin Yi tried to take the older son from his mother's arms, but the younger son, seeming to pick up on the movement, stopped feeding, whimpering and flailing his tiny hands.
Seeing this, his mother laughed and said, "You can't favor one over the other, can you? Look, the younger one is unhappy. You have to hold this one too."
Lin Yi offered a wry smile and pretended to be upset, "You two little guys are trying to wear your dad out!"
But even as he said this, his actions betrayed him; he took both children in his arms, each in a different arm, while Han Xuewei and the Maternity Matron helped by holding the milk bottles at the ready.
Only after being held like this did the little ones feed properly again. They made satisfied "mmm" sounds, clearly relishing their meal!
The two mothers were smitten by the charming children, adoringly watching their babies.
As Lin Yi busied himself feeding, the system's notification chime sounded in his head!
"Ding, congratulations host, you have successfully fed the babies and have received a reward of two hundred thousand!"
Lin Yi's mother-in-law joked at that moment, "Lin Yi, if you get used to it, maybe the babies will only want to feed when you're holding them!"
Lin Yi replied, "Then I'll just keep on feeding! Maybe I'll become a full-time stay-at-home dad from now on. As long as my children aren't wronged, I'm up for anything."
His statement made everyone burst into laughter.
What is happiness? Being together is a form of happiness. It's an atmosphere not easily achieved, so this precious sense of joy is priceless.
Feeding his own babies, Lin Yi was filled with a sense of achievement.
And during this time, he hadn't even been to work, yet he received several system rewards each month, each for no less than two hundred thousand! Could there be anything better than this in the world?
He had just received a two hundred thousand reward for feeding the babies, and by that count, he would have to feed them four or five times a day!
That easily came to over a million—effortlessly!
Where else could he find a job more relaxing than this?
Of course, he didn't have to feed her the milk every day by himself as sometimes there were other things to take care of; however, if calculated as once a day, the income for a month was quite substantial!
So, after everyone had dinner together, Maternity Matron Auntie Ji specially prepared warm water in a wooden bucket in the washroom, and then went to Han Xuewei's room.
"Mrs. Lin, according to the schedule, you can wash your hair now. The water temperature is just right, and I've also added ginger slices to the bucket, which is effective."
Han Xuewei asked, "Then, can I use shampoo? It's been a long time since I've washed my hair."
Maternity Matron Auntie Ji said with a smile, "Of course you can."
"Then Auntie, you go rest, I can do it myself."
Han Xuewei stepped forward to bring the items into her room, indicating she would wash by herself.
After hearing this, Maternity Matron Auntie Ji hesitated a bit and said, "Mrs. Lin, are you sure you can do it alone? I'll be outside then, just call me if you need anything."
With her help, Han Xuewei set up the waterproof protector.
At that moment, Lin Yi walked in, saw what was happening, and naturally picked up the shampooing items, similarly telling Maternity Matron Auntie Ji, "Auntie, I'll help her!"
Han Xuewei was slightly startled when she saw this, her expression revealing a trace of surprise. She hadn't expected Lin Yi to offer to wash her hair.
Han Xuewei lay down naturally, and Auntie Ji patiently explained to Lin Yi.
"This is waterproof, you must drape it properly, otherwise the clothes will get wet, and you might catch a cold."
"Also, try to keep the time under ten minutes. Definitely don't wash too long or you'll catch a cold and it might even lead to a headache."
After giving all the instructions, Maternity Matron Auntie Ji returned to her own bedroom.
Only the husband and wife were left in the room.
Lin Yi took out Han Xuewei's hair clip and gently parted her thick, black hair with his hands.
He carefully wet the ends with water, then gradually poured it up along the hair.
Then, he squeezed some shampoo into the palm of his hand and began massaging her hair.
Even though it was very quiet, with neither of them speaking, a sweet sensation naturally arose, filling the entire room.
At that time, Han Xuewei slowly said, "Lin Yi, you're so good to me!"
Lin Yi was slightly taken aback upon hearing this and asked with a smile, "Haven't you always called me 'husband'? Why have you changed today? It sounds a bit unfamiliar."
Lin Yi deliberately asked with a chuckle.
"Alright, from now on, I'll always call you 'husband'!"
A radiant smile of happiness spread across Han Xuewei's face.
Deep down, she knew she had married the right person. Lin Yi was not only a good husband but also a competent father!
She felt like meeting Lin Yi was the luckiest thing that ever happened to her in her lifetime!
But at that moment, her expression suddenly turned very serious, and she said slowly, "Husband, you might not know, but I was terrified during childbirth. I thought I wouldn't make it off the operating table."
Lin Yi comforted her, "Silly girl, how could you think like that? All that's behind us now, don't worry needlessly."
"Yes, I know. But I was panicked and scared then. The doctor told me I was resistant to anesthetics. If that were true, the success rate for a cesarean might not have been high, and we would have had to resort to other methods."
