Chapter 68: Hunting and the Ambush.
Punk was standing on the first level of the endless Abyss, he carefully looked around, confirming that no demon would suddenly launch an attack, and then he used a small spell to disperse the unpleasant bloody dust around him.
Punk was feeling a little groggy, and a tyrannical will seemed to be slowly accumulating around him. As an official mage, this situation could be said rare for him, so the only explanation was that the erosion of the Abyss had begun, and no one would dare to underestimate this. This kind of seemingly insignificant and slow eroding of filth and chaos could completely change the mind of a creature unknowingly.
At his current level, as long as Punk stayed in this place for more than three months, even this lowest level of erosion of the first layer would be enough to make him completely lose his mind.
"Can't stay very long in this place."
Punk frowned. He resolutely decided that even if there was no gain, he must go back within two hours.
The density of demons in the first layer of Abyss was still relatively high. In less than ten minutes, Punk saw an Imp with red eyes flying over from the distance.
Imps were minion types demons with low levels of strength in the Abyss. They had a thin but spiky body, a mouthful of broken and irregular teeth, twisted and irregular limbs, and a pair of dry and tattered wings.
In the Endless Abyss, Imp was undoubtedly a small demon, but this small size was relative to those huge demons as the 8-feet-tall, 400-pound Imp could already be considered a giant monster for most humanoid races; even a transformed werewolf was a little more than eight feet.
However, although this thing was very big, most Fromages had only apprentice-level strength, and their attack methods were also very ordinary. They simply swoop down from the air and use their claws and mouths that were entangled with abyssal energy to attack. In front of an official mage like Punk, it wouldn't even be able to break his most basic defences.
Generally, any sane creature would choose to flee when encountering an enemy that was absolutely impossible to defeat, but as a demon, an Imp didn't know what fear was, and it did not hesitate to pounce on Punk. There was no reason, no precaution, just the pure desire to battle.
Punk was a bit speechless. Looking at this absolutely insane Imp, he calmly threw a bottle of paralysis potion. With the system's adjustment of the track, the paralysis potion flew toward the Imp accurately. The Imp didn't even try to evade, and the bottle full of paralysis potion smashed into its body...
Then... there was no more then...
The Imp, which was aggressively charging just a moment ago, immediately fell from the sky. The apprentice-level paralysis potion refined by an official mage was not something an apprentice-level demon could withstand. But even after falling on the ground, unable to move, it was still working hard to pump its muscles and trying to pose a threatening posture to show its fierceness, but the deterrence of the twitching "big bat" lying on the ground was really limited!
Punk calmly summoned an apprentice-level iron cage composed of magic and used the mage hand to throw the paralyzed Imp into the cage like a chicken. This prison was not that tough, but it was more than enough to hold an Imp who couldn't move.
The process of catching the demons was unexpectedly simple and easier than Punk imagined. He just strolled around for about an hour and caught four Imps, five spineless demon, and two fiends. These demons stuffed into a cage by Punk were either unconscious or paralyzed, but Punk knew that this would only work temporarily; because as soon as the effect of the potions were over, these guys would definitely launch endless attacks on the other prisoners around them, they would not even consider the problem of their escape. They would just attack everything they see indiscriminately!
Seeing that the cage was full, even though it was an hour early from the appointed time of return, Punk still decided to go back. For some reason, Punk was feeling a vague sense of danger, although he didn't know if it was real or the perception of the soul became chaotic due to the influence of the erosion of the Abyss, but he still did not intend to stay anymore, anyway, he had already obtained enough materials, and there was no need to go sightseeing in this chaotic place.
Punk slowly turned around and started to walk towards the portal step by step. The soft footsteps made a footprint on the sandy ground. Seeing that the portal was already in front of him, Punk suddenly stopped...
He frowned; this portal in front of his eyes had an unspeakable incongruity! Moreover, if he remembered correctly, the road he has traveled before didn't have this much sand; even if there were countless sand floating around in the layer of Ten Thousand entrances, it shouldn't have filled it up this quickly.
Without much hesitation, Punk stepped back quickly. He also quickly blessed himself with a well-practiced spell, "True vision," at the fastest speed. Just as Punk retreated, it was the portal that actually started to approach Punk at a rapid speed.
With the blessing of the "True vision", the portal that was originally glowing with different colors began to twist and deform, and the colorful soft streamer also became filthy scarlet, and at the same time, it started to exude a pungent stench!
In the end, the beautiful portal disappeared completely, replaced by a mouth full of scattered fangs. The owner of the mouth was now rushing towards Punk while making a tyrannical roar.
"Damn!"
Punk couldn't help but yell out. After casting the "True vision," he could see through the illusion around him. The real portal was some distance away from him, and the weird portal-like thing was actually the mouth of a demon that was now chasing him.
Punk, who had carefully looked through the information about demons, recognized it at a glance. The colossal demon that ambushed him was a kind of an illusion demon, Glabrezu!
It had sharp violet eyes and dark black skin. Its body was covered with cruel-looking spurs that had good defensive capabilities. There were also four sharp claws with abyssal energy entwined around them. Its power was also far beyond those of the Imps. The Glabrezu, while standing straight, was 15 feet tall and weighed 5,500 pounds. Even among the demons, this size was pretty impressive.
Looking at the huge demon rushing towards him, Punk blessed himself with a swiftness spell that accelerated his speed to the supersonic, and at the same time, he calmly recalled all the information about the Glabrezu from his memory.
Among the many demonic creatures, the illusion demon was a relatively different kind of existence. It liked to deceive its target rather than fight directly. But once their illusion failed, they would immediately launch a fierce and terrifying attack from anger.
Most of them would first approach the opponent to perform their "illusion techniques." The enemy hit by this talent spell would fall into a state of confusion and bewilderment, and then it usually used two types of hard-hitting attacks, "Hammer of Chaos" and "Filthy Strike," to kill their opponent.
"What a tricky enemy!"
Punk was already starting to regret his move of coming to the Endless Abyss, but now it was too late to reflect on his mistakes. He quickly avoided a bite and rolled on the sandy ground, then quickly widened the distance between him and the huge demon. The magical brilliance with two purple light spots in the middle was spinning at high speed in his eyes!
[TL Note: I didn't fully figure out the names of these different demons, so I might change some of their names later. 1 Chinese foot = 0.33m or 1.08 feet]
