Netheril’s Glory

Chapter 34: Amidst the war.

Unknowingly, the offensive and the defensive battle of Konola city had been going on for a whole day. The two suns, "Mira" and "Casa," had begun to set on the horizon, and Konola city's guards were finally able to gradually repel the enemy's offense for today. At this point in the war, both the offensive and the defensive sides had begun to feel exhausted. Even professionals with strong recovery power began to be overwhelmed because of mental tension.

The war still continued, but now, whether it was the enemy, who was with high morale at the beginning, or the Konola's city guards, who was shivering and determined to put a desperate resistance, now both had become numb and sluggish. The city wall and the ground were stained with a large amount of dried blood. A strong bloody smell was coming from these red-brown stains, and along with the charred skeletons still emanating faint black smoke, this picture was telling the tragedy of this war!

Finally, when the sky was getting dark, the retreat horn sounded from the horizon, and the enemy decided to retreat temporarily.

A large number of enemy soldiers, whose armors were dyed red, retreated from the city wall with their iron swords that were still dripping blood. The surviving Konola city guards also cheered a few times at this symbolic victory and then fell sluggishly on the wall, which was full of corpses. The war came to an end for today!

Punk was standing on the city wall, and there were countless pieces of minced meat around him. If ordinary soldiers were standing on a heap of corpses, Punk was standing on meat soup, but he didn't have a single stain on his clothes. It was primarily because of the mage armor, which almost completely covered Punk's entire body.

Noticing that the sun "Casa" was about to sink below the horizon, and the last ray of twilight was about to bid farewell to the pitted, blood-soaked walls of Konola City, the soldiers piously thanked the gods for their "kindness."

Seeing this, Punk curled his lips, kicked away half of a bloody head, and walked unhurriedly down the steps of the city wall, which became slippery due to the accumulation of a large amount of half-dried blood.

"So real battle is the best way to practice spell!"

After gently squeezing his stainless palm, Punk felt that his strength had improved to a certain extent. Also, after a whole day of practicing spells, he gained a large amount of much-needed battle experience as a mage, and now he could better calculate the timing and choice of spell mid-battle. It also helped to improve his experience with magic. Now, Punk became a level 6 trainee Mage.

Punk, experiencing growth in his strength, was not at all affected by the sad environment brought about by the tragic war. Even when the whole Konola City was full of sorrowful cries, Punk was in a relaxed and happy mood.

But when Punk passed by a shop, even in his cold and ruthless heart, a faint ripple appeared.- compassion!

"No, no, no, the weak are not worthy of my pity."

In front of him was a wooden house that was hit by a boulder. The cracked and scratched shop sign could still be recognized. It was written with unprofessional handwriting, "Lycarta barbecue shop"...This was the barbecue shop, which Punk liked quite a bit.

The shop was smashed by a bolder, and the surrounding ground was soaked with blood flowing out of the gravel cracks.

Punk quickly used a prophecy spell that could identify a person from their blood.

The result was as Punk expected. Naturally, whether it was the barbecue shop owner or the little loli with big eyes, who said "Big Brother is so pretty" to him in a tender voice, had already been buried under the ground by this huge boulder forever............

" Rest in peace, Poor little fallow, and rest in peace, delicious barbecue,"

Punk stretched out his hand and gently stroked the huge stone covered with dust and blood, turned around, and continued to walk towards the square.

"Am I not also one of the weak? In such a war, my little power... it's not worth mentioning!"

"Wars... are really unpleasant, especially a war that makes you feel powerless!"

……

The city defense forces were uniformly distributing food on the square. On the Pheren plane, if a city was in a state of war, any "strategic materials" such as food had to be handed over to the army by all commoners. Of course, by the general rationing order, the professional had the highest priority, the nobility came second, then the soldiers, and finally, if anything were left, it would be given to the commoners.

In order to cope with a likely long-term war, food must be preserved, So all food was distributed in accordance with the wartime standard, or at least it was like that for ordinary people.

In the large square, groups of commoners were lining up in a porridge shed built with broken wood to receive a small bowl of soup and porridge made with a bit of wheat and a few sporadic wild vegetable leaves, while the professionals picked up their meals from a temporary requisition shop.

Punk picked up a greasy-looking dish and used a cleaning spell before he took it to dinner.

There were not many dishes of food. The staple food was three pieces of wheat bread. It seemed like the baker might have been smashed to death because not only these breads weren't appropriately baked, its shape also was very abstract. The side dishes included bacon and ham, as well as some vegetarian dishes such as pickled radishes. Punk chose some good smoked bacon and then returned to the bloody city wall, intending to have a low-key meal. As for other professionals, who have never seen the world, this bloody and terrifying environment was definitely not a good place to eat. But it didn't bother Punk that much, as he has already been through quite a few gruesome battles already.

Punk ignored the ghostly glances of a few apprentice-level professionals. Now he was thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of Konola City and didn't have time to pay attention to the small details such as the dining table, so he just used a fairly intact corpse as a table and ate his food with big bites-_-

As a border city that relied on leather export, Konola has never had a large amount of grain. Usually, most of the foods were imported through the canals from other grain-rich cities. Although some farmers grew ququ wheat, the yield was generally meager, and in the tender season, the Ququ wheat planted in the ground was only seedlings, which couldn't be used as food. However, the current Konola City had a hundred thousand troops that needed food to support the battle.

"And the current amount of food will last at most a week. So even if the enemy just surrounds the city and does not attack directly, the shortage of food alone would be enough to bring down the Konola City." Punk could already be sure, as long as the enemy did nothing wrong. Konola City could be said to be already a lost cause.

"But what does this have to do with me?"

Punk mouthed a piece of moderately salty bacon into his mouth and decided that after he had slaughtered fifty professionals and redeem a spell from Mage McNeesey, he would leave Konola City and also the Kingdom of Camos, which was destined to be turbulent in the future. And go directly to the Kingdom of Dylan, which was the nearest to Camos.

After thinking of this, Punk raised his head and looked around at the other professionals who were sitting under the wall in a circle.

"It seems that their thoughts are also similar to mine. After today's battle, even these hot-blooded baboons became sober!"

While Punk continued to think about a strategy for tomorrow in his mind, a familiar voice came not far from him!

"Hello~~Long time no see brother Punk!"

After hearing the unpleasant greeting from the side of the city wall stairs, which although interrupted his important thoughts, but Punk was more annoyed knowing who was the owner of this voice.
