Chapter 25: Preparation for alchemy.
Punk bought a dilapidated small house about 200 square meters with 70 gold coins. This house's location and condition were such that people might not even accept it as a free gift, let alone buy it for 70 gold coins. The previous owner of this house may even wake up laughing from his sleep when thinking about how he fooled a fat sheep.
Punk was contemptuously looking at the back of a middle-aged man, who was running away after handing the house's ownership to Punk, fearing that the wealthy mage may regret this purchase.
Punk only shook his head at these ordinary people's ignorance and started to take a good look at his new home.
He didn't expect that a thing that was just a dream on earth would come true so easily in this new world. But there were no such feelings as a sense of security or belonging.
"Is it because I have not been living in a fixed place since I crossed over, so I am now used to it!"
Punk couldn't help but laugh at himself.
Then Punk calmly cast several detection spells on the house, and after confirming that there are no problems, Punk stepped onto the old steps at the door of the house, which made creaking noises.
After entering the small house, the first thing that welcomed Punk was a thick layer of dust on the floor, which was more than one centimeter thick, and large spider webs all over the house.
The dust started to spread in the air when Punk opened the door, making the whole living room miasmatic.
"I paid you so much money, and you didn't even clean the house. No wonder you can't sell it."
Punk complained about the seller's poor service, which was not much different from his peers from the earth. Then Punk cast a wind technique, and after reducing its power by manyfold, used it to clean up the dust and spider web.
But even with reduced power, when the mini hurricane was blowing through every corner of the broken house, the rotten wooden structure could not even endure it, and it started making harsh groan noises.
Which made Punk worry about whether the broken house will crumble and collapse in the next moment.
Punk sent the hurricane, which was now more like a dust storm, out the door. The dust storm went outside the door and covered the leaves of a small tree with dust.
Although the house was still dilapidated, Punk was quite satisfied after looking at the much cleaner environment.
Because there was no furniture, the space inside the small house was sufficient enough to set up an alchemy laboratory.
Punk doesn't need furniture anyway, because as a mage, he only needed to meditate to replace sleep, so he doesn't need a bed, and as a "Chef" who can't even make scrambled eggs,
He doesn't need a kitchen as he planned to buy food from the street vendors.
After setting up a few simple defensive spells, Punk walked into a room at the inner side of the house. When he opened the door, the whole room was dark, and some light rays were coming from the holes on the roof of the room that was eaten by insects. All of this created a ghost house-like atmosphere in this small room.
Punk chanted an apprentice-level spell – dancing light, and a bright ball of light, which was comparable to an incandescent lamp, emerged in his hand and then floated to the ceiling. The soft light emitted by the ball brightened the whole room. As a passive apprentice-level spell, this spell can be maintained for two days, so it can be said to be better than the electric lights.
Later, Punk also created a large table with magic. These simple magic spells can be modified and changed to a certain extent by Punk, who was already a trainee-level mage.
For example, a spell that can only create a round table, Punk used the system to analyze and modify the spell model and constructed a magic Large rectangular experimental table. Although it was only a minor change to the spell structure, it also meant that Punk has a profound understanding of magic.
Punk was now ready to start experimenting with alchemy potion; he carefully took out some alchemy tools engraved with dim magic lines from his pocket. This set of tools was not the kind of cheap disposable goods that can be easily bought with ten gold coins, but a limited edition customized products worth 200 gold coins, or at least that what the old man said to Punk.
This tool was made of high-quality materials and had some magic inscriptions added to improve the success rate.
Punk picked up a light red transparent beaker with a light yellow flame shape inscription. The wall of the beaker was emitting slight heat, like the inscription of spattering flames. This beaker is made of Fire crystal, which was not only very strong but also has the characteristic of slowing down mana dissipation. And the inscription on it can very effectively keep it hot.
It was absolutely an excellent piece of equipment that every novice Alchemy master/alchemist dreams of. But it also immediately drained almost all of Punk's newly acquired gold coins.
After arranging the alchemy equipments neatly on the experimental table, Punk took out the old and thin "night vision potion formula" and begun to study it carefully.
The bag containing the alchemy materials was placed near Punk's feet, which was convenient for Punk to take out the materials anytime for comparison with the formula.
As time went by, Punk's understanding of the night vision potion's formula also deepened.
This potion uses a sort of biological mimicry to achieve its effect. After going through the alchemy procedure, the potion will become a semi-quantifiable transparent liquid, and then the alchemy master has to add a sequence of magical programs to it.
After someone drinks it, it will change form again and become a kind of energy that will quickly flow through the blood circulation and gather in the eyes, then the magic program that has been integrated with the potion will form a layer of light-sensitive energy film at the wall of the retina. In the case of normal light, the film will become transparent so that the light can pass into the retina, but once the light becomes dimmed, the transparent film will materialize and increase the intensity of light as much as needed and project it into the retina.
The principle was simple, but the process of implementation was very complicated and difficult.
Punk closed the book that had been already recorded word for word by the system, then started to think deeply, while rubbing the rough book cover.
The key to successfully making this potion lies in two aspects: one was to refine a bunch of strange ingredients into a potion with special light perception properties.
The second point is to program the agent to automatically identify a human body's visual organs and form the energy film in the correct position.
The second point can be learned by reading other alchemy master's notes and with sufficient practice.
But the first point was particularly complex and challenging. First, you have to separate the essence from the materials and then integrate all those essences together, finally changing the reagents' properties.
But, even though all the materials were the same type, their properties were different.
Therefore, refining it not only requires extreme precision but also constant adaptation with the changing properties of the materials. Countless mages failed at these messy and complicated operations.
Punk put down the recipe book and started rubbing his temple with his index finger. Even with the system and a more robust mental proception than normal, Punk was still a little discouraged.
"No wonder there are so few alchemy masters!"
Now Punk finally understood the meaning of the mocking gaze he saw deep in the alchemy puppet's eyes when he bought the formula.
"Looks like that cheap thing is not as simple as I thought."
