Chapter 197: | 197 | Final Battle Part 10
In the vast plains within the central region of Terra, it was as though the golden sun had risen once again from the lines of the boundless horizon. The gleaming light pierced through everything along with a thunderous roar that bellowed throughout the heavens and the earth.
It was quite a beautiful sight in the eyes of the ignorant.
However, to those near it, the scene was far from beautiful.
"Hold on!" Within the bridge of the UNS Ceaseless Skies, Captain Himmel roared as a surging turbulence shook the interiors of the airship. The naval personnel under his command swiftly followed orders and held on to their respective equipment.
Himmel lowered his posture as the walls and floor around them trembled from the turbulence brought about by the explosion. He maintained his calm and squinted his eyes while glancing at the distorted screen that previously displayed the impact site.
Dozens of thoughts flooded inside his head, wondering how he would explain the situation to the fleet admiral. One wouldn't expect for the Colonial Dominion to employ such tactics, and one simply couldn't imagine the dragoness being shackled to the ground.
'The Dragon of Liberation must not die.' Himmel thought to himself, clenching his fist and furrowing his eyebrows. Not only does the dragon contain half of their military power, she was also the wife-to-be of the fleet admiral. Her death wouldn't do good to the United Navy.
However, there was nothing he could do about it. As he had thought before, he was but a human. The armaments of the UNS Ceaseless Skies were useless in the battle between the Apostles and the dragoness. Though, he also understood that these were him rationalizing what had happened.
Perhaps, he should have assisted the dragoness in some way. Attracting their attention and giving a moment of distraction might have resulted in victory, even if the UNS Ceaseless Skies may fall from the heavens.
Himmel could only shake his head as the turbulence surrounding the airship faded and calmed down. All of his subordinates stood up from their lowered position and he quickly began giving orders to his men.
"Examine the situation and give me the status of our arsenal." His words resounded throughout the bridge. The naval officers along with various operators gave their nods and immediately followed through his orders.
Some being examining the situation on the ground while others checked the status of their deployed drones.
Captain Himmel once again glanced at the monitor screen brimming with distortion. He hoped to returned what it was before and see what had happened or occurred in that place. However, no matter how much moments have passed, nothing changed.
"Sir, we have received the situation in the ground. Things have gotten complicated since the explosion. The Magus Tower have revealed themselves and are in the process of reinforcing the army of Terra." One of the intelligence officers calmly reported.
"The drones are barely operational, Sir. The explosion has caused some interference with our network, so there should be some delay with the UAVs' input and output. I suggest waiting a couple of minutes before directing control over the drones." A drone operator also reported to Himmel.
Captain Himmel raised his eyebrows after hearing the reports of his subordinates. The emergence of the Magus Tower made things even more complicated, and their troubled network needed time to returned to its high operation status.
"We must assist the United Army and our allies. Even if our drones aren't operable, we mustn't let the Magus Tower massacre our fellow comrades. Change our latitude to a height serviceable by our weapons." Himmel ordered, not wanting to hesitate in this precarious situation.
...
Meanwhile...
Somewhere in the central region of Terra was a massive crater residing in the vast plains. Surrounding it were endless charred landscape and the fiery flames of inferno. Magma streams also encompassed the area, making it akin to hell.
A distance away from it were three figures. These three were the Apostles of Terra Firma, the supposed executioners of the Dragon of Liberation, Laplace. They stared at the crater from afar with cold gaze. They had succeeded in their mission, and it was a lot easier than they had expected.
"We were fortunate that the dragon was arrogant. Otherwise, it would have gotten more complicated." The Nature Apostle uttered with a soft voice. What she said was correct. Things would have gotten more troublesome if the dragoness was kept alive even longer.
"Even if it became problematic, I'm confident of handling her regardless." The Magma Apostle remarked, not thinking much of the dragoness that they had executed with ease. Such were the fate of beings lower than them.
"To think we needed our strongest spells to take care of her." The Meteor Apostle muttered while staring into the distance. The crater brought about by his meteor was an exhilarating sight. But it wasn't mere his that gave the dragoness her inevitable death.
"Oh, you completed my mission?" Another voice escaped behind the three of them, causing their spines to chill. They quickly kneeled and bowed their heads deeply, not wanting to offend their master.
"We have completed the mission, Master." All of them uttered at the same time, not daring to look at the face of their master. "Hmm... I guess you could think of it as complete with the destruction you three have caused." Their master's soft voice resounded in their ears.
"You may raise your head."
Following her words, the three looked up, gazing upon a gorgeous lady with brown skin and a hair dyed in evergreen, like the color of leaves. She wore a beautiful dress sewn with the most expensive minerals that could be found beneath the earth. It made her tantalizing to see in the eyes.
"But you shouldn't underestimate her. I have fought her before in this very avatar of mine. She's quite tenacious if the situation calls for it." Terra Firma had fought against the Laplace when she was first known as the Dragon of the Revolting Tide.
Those rebels have made a decision to conquer back their lost ancestral territories in the Frontier, prompting the involvement of a Sovereign. After all, Terra Firma had invested quite a lot in the Colonial Dominions that have planted themselves in the Frontier.
She wasn't willing to lose the investment she had grown for hundreds of years.
"W-What do you mean by alive, Master? She's-" Before the Magma Apostle could continue, Terra Firma placed her fingers before her supple lips, commanding him to be quiet. Her hazel-colored eyes narrowed as she pointed into the distance where the crater resided.
"Look deeper my Apostle, you mustn't let your eyes fool you." Her words echoed in their ears, prompting all of them to gazed at the crater with scrutiny. Instead of observing it with their eyes, they instead used their mana sense.
It was at that moment they had realized the massive mana deposit emanating from the crater.
"How is this possible? That was our strongest attacks combine!" The Meteor Apostle couldn't imagined how his spell had become ineffective against the dragoness. It had destroyed armies and countries before, how could it not defeat the Dragon of Liberation?
"Dragons are tough. Unless you burn every cell in their bodies, they would continue to live. After all, there's a reason why they are considered as Nature's perfect creature. Besides, she has gotten stronger since our bout decades ago."
"Such mere attacks wouldn't be enough to end her."
"Isn't that right, Laplace?" The edges of her lips rose as she couldn't help but be reminded of the time when she and that dragon fought. It was quite an intriguing duel, despite merely utilizing her Avatar to fight against the dragoness.
In the meantime, deep within the vast crater molded by the magicraft of the three Apostles of Terra Firma, Laplace stood with a severely injured body. Blood was splattered everywhere while her arms tangled, barely hanging onto her body.
But regardless of her severe injuries, she maintained an aloof yet smiling expression. It was as though her mere circumstance of being alive was enough to take care of the Apostles. She slowly turned her gaze towards them as her arms quickly regenerated to her body.
Laplace's state returned to what it was as if nothing had occurred despite being in the middle of a massive crater and surrounded by a charred landscape of devastation.
"Quite interesting spells you have there, Apostles. Much more impressive than any Magus I have seen." Her words echoed throughout the land, causing Terra Firma to frown. She wasn't annoyed by the ineffective of her Apostles' magic, but Laplace's remark about such fireworks being better than anything she had seen.
"Your eyes must have been blinded by my Apostles for you to give awful remarks." Terra Firma commented while Laplace appeared in front of her. She was uninjured, even her clothes looked as though they had recently gone through a washing machine.
Laplace smiled at the Sovereign and responded. "They're much more interesting than you, to say the least." Her words earned the obvious scoff of Terra Firma, who narrowed her eyes and noted. "You're still the same as before, Laplace. Your venomous mouth hasn't change, perhaps becoming more awful."
"Thank you for your praise, but I'd rather have such words escaped his mouth than yours." Laplace grinned and took down the supposed-praised of the Sovereign. Lovely words should be preserved to her lover.
"Oh, him... huh? The manaless human that took your heart. How did you even fall for a disappointment and a weakling? Was he so enamored by you? Did he utter false promises?
It really makes me wonder." Terra Firma shook her head in disappointment, seeing how much the dragon had fallen in her eyes.
"Why must all of you be so engaged with my love life? Are you all jealous that I found something you couldn't? I'm even more disappointed now from how boring you have become. " Laplace's golden irises soon glowed as her gaze became cold. "It makes me want to burn all of you."
