Chapter 118: | 118 | Operation Storming Freedom
Inside the fleet admiral's office residing within the branch office building of the Port of Dawn, Abraham found himself in a peculiar situation. When he told them about what had previously happened with his call in the runic communicator, they began staring at him with dumbfounded expressions.
"Fleet Admiral, I believe you should regard to your safety first before doing anything." Vice Admiral Charlotte suggested as magicraft had strange abilities that not even them might comprehend.
"A random woman talking to him?" The Dragoness Laplace raised an eyebrow with an expression of scrutiny, though Mercedes thankfully saved the fleet admiral by adding some information.
"From the conversation between the two of them, I believe that the woman was asking for assistance in her rebellion against the archipelago colony." Mercedes clarified.
"Isn't this good then? Our target is that colony, and with the tribes brewing trouble inside. The upcoming operation would go smoothly without any problems." Laplace's former thoughts of destroying someone's head faded and was in agreement with the subject of alliance.
"The problem is the identity of this woman." Charlotte uttered, causing Laplace to look at her with a questioning face. The vice admiral merely shook her head and continued.
"Her identity isn't some random beastfolk who wants some liberation, but a human girl." Hearing the words of Charlotte, the dragoness was deeply shocked.
A human girl trying to liberate beastfolk tribes? It was akin to hearing a hero from a fairytale. It simply wasn't possible in her eyes.
"A-Are you sure about that?" Laplace inquired, causing both the vice admiral and fleet admiral to nod their heads.
With their confirmation, the dragoness was in a state in disarray. Though, it didn't take long before she could recover from it and regained her clarity that was lost from the previous shock.
"Abraham, is she to be trusted?" The dragoness questioned the fleet admiral, who softly smiled and responded. "I know she's to be trusted, but the United Navy needs actual evidence for them to accept it."
"That's why I'm sending one of your teams into the island to check things out. If it was a trap, they could easily get out of trouble with their superior physiques."
"But I'm not sending your subordinates into a suicide mission. The reason why I'm confident is that one of the information she had told me had already been confirmed." Abraham uttered and brought out a file.
The vice admiral and the dragoness glanced at the file, reading its name.
"Ever since the end of Operation Phantom Liberation, I have been investigating the activities of the Colonial Dominion. One of the many things I have discovered is that they are recalling their forces scattered throughout the sea region of Terra."
"This was something that the girl told me through the runic communicator." Abraham brought up a good point and continued. "Her rebellion could easily grow stronger without our help, but that wouldn't be enough to take care of the main colony in the archipelago."
"That's the reason why she brought up an alliance between her forces and ours." The fleet admiral took out another file as he brought out many more plans he laid out with the help of Systema.
"The following operation will be Operation Storming Freedom. Our target is the colony in the archipelago. Their forces are deeply weakened as the number of wyvern riders and Magi are lesser than half."
"In this operation, the United Navy will be deploying the UNS Light bringer and UNS Jaeger of the Blue Seas. After much thought, these warships are confirmed to be enough for the mission."
"There are also more operations targeting the northern, southern, western, and eastern colonies scattered throughout our sea region."
"The red fleet and the UNS Trinity of Solace will take care of the north. While the UNS Guardian of the High Seas, and the main forces of the Special Response Unit will be handling the south."
"While the Colonial Dominion gather its forces, we will take down its colonies one by one and liberate more beastfolks along the way." Abraham concluded his long explanation, which brought silence into the room.
None of them had thought that their fleet admiral would unload surging intelligence to them at breakneck speed. He was supposed to be the lax one, how could he betray them.
At any rate, Charlotte was the first one that recovered from Abraham's surprise attack and remarked to the information at hand.
"Since the colonies have been weakened, you want to strike while the iron is hot."
Hearing her words, Abraham nodded in agreement and expressed his thoughts about it. "I plan to stay in the Port of Dawn, managing the wider scope of operations."
"I'm planning to have you with the red fleet in the north, Charlotte. You'll be commanding them, along with the UNS Trinity of Solace as your battleship."
"While most of the United Navy are out. The Port of Dawn will be at its weakest state. You shouldn't be staying in this island like cattle." Laplace understood what Abraham was trying to do.
"That is a risk I'm willing to take, Laplace. The operation must be managed in this island where long-range communication are extremely developed. With the help of the intelligence officers in the command center, I'll be able to manage the war-effort without much delay."
"This is something that I must do, especially as the fleet admiral of the United Navy." When she heard Abraham's determined words, Laplace couldn't utter a single word.
She knew that it would be useless against her man, who was incredibly hardheaded when making a serious decision.
"Anyhow, Mercedes... I will be sending you along with a team from the Special Response Unit to the colony in the archipelago. You will be confirming the status of the deerfolk tribe and its human rebel."
"If you confirmed their status as good, then the larger operation will begin. The strategies have been sent to the commanding officers involved, so there's no need for you to worry about it."
Abraham turned his gaze to Mercedes and explained what she needed to do in Operation Storming Freedom. Mercedes saluted to the fleet admiral and replied. "I shall follow your command, Fleet Admiral."
"I'll make sure the success of the operation."
"Good, I will be expecting news from you. But be sure to be cautious and careful. Machinery, land, and wealth can be regained. However, once lost, you could never get your life again." Abraham remarked, wanting the wolf beastfolk to be careful.
"I shall do so," Mercedes nodded and felt somewhat delighted to be considered as someone important to the fleet admiral.
Laplace then placed her hand on Abraham's wooden desk and uttered. "I'll complete the mission as fast as possible, Abraham. So, tuck in and take care. Anything can happen, especially when those Magus don't play fair."
"Understood, Laplace." Abraham nodded in understanding and didn't want to rile up the dragoness anymore. Even though he thought of it as a bit too much to expect an assassination.
Especially, when the Colonial Dominion will be busy hearing the news of several of their colonies being turned upside down. But it was better to be cautious than not. Lest, shall he regret it.
It didn't take long before their discussion ended and the group dispersed. The fleet admiral was left alone in his office, while preparations of Operation Storming Freedom was at full motion.
...
20 kilometers from the archipelago colony, an Osprey was piercing through the skies heading to its destination. Inside the aircraft was the reconnaissance team of the Special Response Unit, led by First Lieutenant Mercedes.
In the reconnaissance team of the SRU were combined members of veterans and the newly-recruited Minokins. There was also Lieutenant Espada with them, acting as the second in command.
When the Osprey reached a dozen kilometers away from SRU's designated landing zone, Mercedes stood up and looked at the team under her command. She squinted her eyes and uttered.
"You have already been brief regarding your upcoming mission. But as per protocol, I shall debrief you again. Our mission is intelligence and status confirmation of the rebels in an island under the control of the colony."
"We will only directly make contact with them once their status has been confirmed by the intelligence department. Following the confirmation will be the beginning of Operation Storming Freedom."
"Our team will lead the rebels to liberate more beastfolk tribes scattered throughout the colony, while the fleet will sail to the heart. We will not partake in the main battlefront unless ordered so. Make sure to control yourself, otherwise you will meet your consequences."
"You are part of the Special Response Unit, under the direct command of the Dragon Laplace, and the authority of Fleet Admiral Abraham Shepherd. We are the warriors of the United Navy, and shall fight against even the strongest enemies."
Mercedes's short speech ended when the red luminescent light of the Osprey's interior turned green. The personnel under her command stood up and saluted to her before preparing for deployment.
Seeing this, the typically cold beastfolk smiled and reminded them of one important thing.
"But remember! Victories can be reclaim, but your lives will forever be lost once you die. Be sure to not act foolishly during the mission, and take care of yourselves."
After uttering such words, the Osprey's ramp slowly opened, lightening up the interior of the aircraft. It slowly revealed an island below them as winds surged out into the open.
*This is Candor 1, personnel are clear for release!*
When the Special Response Unit heard the confirmation of the pilots, they immediately hopped off the aircraft without any hesitation or delay and went freefalling in the blue skies.
