Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Future Husband
What happened next seemed blurry to me. I didn’t really remember what had happened to the ghost that had been bothering me. Next thing I knew, I was in Mr. Sanjaya’s office, drinking a cup of tea.
“Are you okay?” He asked in worried tone. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you like that.”
When I lifted up my face, I saw ‘guilty’ and ‘concerned’ pasted on his handsome face. A glass of black coffee was in his hands and he was leaning towards me from his seat that was situated not far beside me.
“I’m fine.” I told him softly.
I watched as smile found its way to his sexy lips...
Oh God, I really need to stop. Why do I see him that way?
It was not the first time I saw him, but it was my first time talking to him. He was a lecturer for Computer Engineering, so he had never taught my class. Yet, there I was, talking to him like he was my academic advisor.
.....
“What’s your name?” He asked. His smile was so warm I couldn’t help but feel enchanted by it.
“Jane. Jane Harris, from Civil Engineering.” I introduced myself.
A surprised look was seen on his face. I guessed he had heard about me, right? After all, there was no one in campus, especially engineering faculty, that didn’t know about Jane who got dump by Rizal Ali.
“You’re Jane Harris?” I nodded at his question. “I’ve been dying to meet you, actually.” The smile on his face grew brighter and wider. “I’ve heard about you from your father, but I haven’t had time to actually look for you even though we are in the same building. My bad, please, forgive me.”
Okay, that was a surprise! And here I thought he would recognize me for being Senior Rizal’s pitiful ex.
Fortunately I didn’t say that out loud.
But, wait! Did he just say he knew my father?
“I’m sorry, Sir, do you know my father?”
“Yes, of course. We have met several times before. Your father and my father are old friends. So I met him for a couple of times before. I think I also met you long time ago.” He was squinting his eyes as he tried to remember his meeting with me.
It must be around twelve to sixteen years ago, when I was around one or two years old. At most, I would be 5 years old because I had no recollection of meeting him.
His chuckle made me realized that I was deep in my thought. As I regained my senses, I looked at him again.
“Unfortunately, the smiling sunshine I met long ago is too quiet now.” He said while looking at me with his deep eyes. I could feel my cheeks reddened at his casual comment.
What ‘smiling sunshine’? This man is seriously a flirt.
“I still have that picture of you with me, when you were four years old.” He said again as he started to rummage his wallet.
I coughed lightly to clear my throat. “Why would you have my picture with you?” And he is carrying it around in his wallet, too! Isn’t it strange?
He laughed. “Your father never mentioned about me to you, right?”
Yeah, he never did. “Yes.”
“That’s to be expected. After all, you haven’t reached the agreeable age to finalize the agreement.” He said casually. “Ah, here you are. Look at my smiling sunshine!”
He handed over a piece of old photo. Did he really have my picture with him? As my eyes took a careful look on the picture, I could feel them widened as I recognized the person in the picture.
There’s no mistake, it was me! And, I was not alone in it, too. There was a boy beside me, holding onto my hand. There was a warm and gentle smile on his face as he was looking at the young me in the picture. But, I didn’t recognize the boy.
Who is he?
“See? I didn’t lie, did I? I really have your picture with me.” He grinned.
“Why do you have my picture, Sir?” I asked slowly as I was still feeling dumbfounded.
“Why? Because you’re my fiancee, of course. I only have this picture of us together and I’ve been cherishing it so much. Never thought I would finally meet the real you here, after you’ve grown up beautifully.” The look in his eyes turned even more gentle and there was a hint of excitement in it.
But, it was not the reason my eyes widened so much right now I felt like I was acting like a fool.
Fiancee? Then, it means... he is my future husband?!
What the hell?! Dad has never mentioned about it before!
And oh yeah, you’re beyond help, Jane! How could you not notice that the one in the picture is him? Why else would he bring that picture around with him? Do you think he would bring a picture of a young boy with him around if it’s not him?
As I lost myself in a series of cursing my own foolishness and the turn of events that was happening in front of me, I failed to notice a pair of eyes was watching us the entire time.
Who could blame me, though? Who would be in right mind after a hunk just confessed that he was her future husband?
Obviously not me!
