Chapter 48
Chapter 48: Possibility (1)
“GAAAHHHH!!!”
I screamed in fright when I saw a messy-haired, burnt face with some of the flesh half-peeled and hung onto the face, and creepy big red eyes Kunti appeared from my window.
The voice was hers, there was no mistaken of it, but that appearance... it was too horrible to be seen!
My whole body stiffened even after my scream died out. My eyes widened in shock. Warmth seemed to leave my body and I couldn’t turn my face away from her. I really wanted to turn my head, but an invisible force tied me up to stay still. I couldn’t even close my eyes!
“Get used to it. After what’s blocking your ability has been cleared up, you’ll see many more like me out there.” Kunti said as she casually sat down, floating. “Your boyfriend here agreed to this therapy.”
“I don’t remember agreeing to your condition to suddenly appear in this form of yours.” Tom frowned in displeasure.
I could hear them talking, but the shock was too much. I just stared at them, with fear gripping my poor heart. Tears came streaming down my cheeks as I choked on my breath.
.....
“Enough!” Tom jumped on Kunti, who changed herself into the one I knew.
As soon as she turned herself, the force binding me to stay conscious and still disappeared. Next thing I knew, I fainted.
I didn’t know how long I had been out. When I opened my eyes, I saw familiar faces; not Tom’s nor Kunti’s face. It was human, that’s for sure.
“Thank God, you’re awake. We’ve been so worried about you.” She was my dorm mate, Riri.
“Are you okay? Do you feel sick anywhere?” My another dorm mate, Angie, asked me.
“Senior Rizal is so worried about you. He refused to leave your side.” Riri said, and I finally saw Senior Rizal sitting not far from my bed, looking at me in distress.
Why is he here? What is he doing here?
“I’m fine.” I managed to reply after struggling a bit to let out my voice.
“Here, drink this first. You don’t seem to catch a fever, so you’ll likely be fine.” Angie helped me to take a sip of warm water.
“Thank you.” I softly said.
My eyes darting around, looking for Tom and Kunti, but I couldn’t see them anywhere. “What happened?” I asked. I fainted because of Kunti, I knew that. But, how did these guys come here? What is Senior Rizal doing here?
“Senior Rizal wanted to meet you so we accompanied him to get here.” Angie started. “You know, to give you moral support to reject him.” She whispered. “But, we found you unconscious.” She added.
“At first, we thought you were sleeping, but no matter how many times we called out, you didn’t answer us. Sorry for barging in.” Riri continued.
Ah, so that’s what happened.
“Thanks. I think I am exhausting myself, that’s why I fainted.” I smiled weakly at them.
The corner of my eyes noticed some movements from Senior Rizal’s side, so I turned my head to look at him. He stood up and approached us.
“Could you give us a second?” He asked to Angie and Riri. He sounded polite, but the glint in his eyes was too cold to ignore.
Riri and Angie looked at me, waiting for my response. Sighing, I nodded to them. “I’ll be fine. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything stupid to someone’s husband.”
His clenching fist didn’t escape my eyes when I said ‘someone’s husband’. I wonder what he wanted now.
“We’ll be right at the door. Shout if he does something weird.” Riri glared at him as if warning him to behave himself.
Angie shot him a warning glare, too, but both of them stood up and left us.
Silence fell between us. “What is it?” I started when I saw he had no intention to start speaking.
“It’s her, right? She came to you, right?”
I saw his fist clenched tightly and his jaw hardened as he spoke. Why would he be mad?
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Maintaining an indifferent expression, I casually answered.
“Did she do it to you?” His question came with a low growl.
I chuckled. Of course not! I fainted because of the stupid agreement between Kunti and Tom. There’s no way your wife could scare me into unconsciousness!
I wish I could say that in front of his face, but I shut my lips tightly. Choosing my words carefully, I opened my mouth to say, “No, don’t worry. She didn’t do anything to me.”
Senior Rizal frowned, looking like he didn’t believe with what I had just said to him.
“By the way, she is really beautiful. No wonder your parents like her.” I said again, changing the topic. “You should be grateful to marry a woman like her.” I tried to smile to ease up the awkward atmosphere.
Instead of relaxing his posture, he frowned even deeper. His lips tightly pressed into thin line, as if he was suppressing a rage inside. His eyes fulled of anger, but to whom, I had no idea. I was sure he would snap in a second, but he surprised me when he took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
Then, a smile appeared on his face. A gentle but fake smile. Hidden deep inside his eyes was pain, loneliness, and the unspeakable anger. Those what he was faking, but somehow I could see it.
“Rest well. Glad you’re okay.” He touched my head, ruffled my hair a bit, before he turned around and walked out of my room, successfully startling the two girls behind the door.
I watched his back as he disappeared from my room. The back that used to look so sturdy and warm was now looked gloomy and lonely. Did I do right by letting his weird wife stayed married with him?
