Chapter 268
268 Mysterious Force Behind The Shamans (1)
(Tom’s PoV)
These people really made me exerted more strength to ‘invite’ them. The problem was that I needed to make sure they were alive before and after I invited them. Their resistance made it harder for me to make it happen, so I could only use more strength to subdue them. There were some side effects, of course, but it was better than nothing. At least, they wouldn’t die.
Jane was staring at these spirits who were beaten black and blue. She had not said anything yet, but one of the spirits started to curse her.
“Evil woman! You’ll be cursed by your ancestors for doing forbidden magic! How dare you kidnap us! How much did you pay this man? Wait until I have my hands on you! I’ll make sure to make all of your body rot, and you’re going to suffer even after your death!”
I shook my head in annoyance and helplessness. If Jane were the one who picked them up, I was sure she would have burn them alive.
There was no expression in her face. She looked straight at the man’s face and without breaking their eye contact, her hand pointed towards the shadows. With a flick of her wrist, 3 shadows flew off the group and headed towards the man. Another flick and the shadow lets out an ear-piercing scream, then the man followed with painful scream.
“No! No! No! Please, don’t!” He begged pitifully.
“Now, do you know the meaning of being evil?” She asked coldly.
The man broke out in cold sweat. He must have cursed himself inwardly for being a fool. His impulsive mouth carelessly spewed out some rubbish and ended up making him miserable. Who asked him to have such a foul mouth?
.....
The power to make even a spirit felt pain was extremely dangerous, but somehow applying it to some trash like this man felt oddly satisfying.
“These three were sent by you, right?” She approached him with slow steps, felt like an impending danger for the man. Her aura thickened. Even as her ally, I could feel the weight of her supremacy mixing with the air. She changed from the ordinary girl into a powerful leader in a second!
That’s the woman I love! I cheered inside my heart. How could a person that I loved was an ordinary person? She must be extraordinary! I knew that it was not the right time to idolize my own girlfriend, but what could I do? Every time she asserted her dominance towards someone or something, the pride in me felt overloaded that I almost wanted to kneel before her and state my loyalty. Then, I remembered that I was already her General -and her boyfriend. I was her closest person both in two worlds and I was sure I would be the most loyal person to her! No matter what happened, there was no way I would do something bad to her.
“H-how do y-you know?” The man was shivering with wide eyes. He might never expect that she could connect these shadows with him correctly.
I have always known that Jane was different. Even if the three of us learned about the other worlds at the same time, we were bound to be different. It wasn’t because of her identity as the Master of White Army, but she was just special. She looked like she could see more than what we could see. She might not realize it, though.
However, even if she didn’t realize it, sometimes she chose not to explain.
And as expected, she didn’t respond to the man’s question. The smirk was all that she gave him.
“Do you want to tell me why you attacked me?” She asked. “Or, were you targeting my father instead of me?” The way she tilted her head while asking was seriously cute and somehow looking dangerous at the same time.
“I don’t even know who you are. Why would I attack you?” The man responded.
“So, you’re targeting my father.” She nodded her head. “Who asked you to do that?”
“I don’t know.” He responded stubbornly.
“Oh?” Jane raised her pretty eyebrows. From the way she moved her fingers, I bet she would do something to the man’s spirit.
However, before she could do anything, ten or so thin greyish needle like things pierced into the man’s spirit. Another loud scream reverberated in the night sky. It was painful to hear, I couldn’t imagine what he felt as the one being stabbed.
“Don’t bother using your power. If he doesn’t want to speak, I can do the torture for you.” Sanji approached her. Hundreds, no, probably thousands of thin greyish needles were rotating behind him. What a show off!
“Also, there are other spirits here that need interrogation. Don’t just focus on him. If he refuses to talk, just let him taste my needles first and we can move to the next person.” Sanji patted her head while smiling.
Ever since we turned into her lovers, it was hard for me to be jealous when he acted so close to her. I couldn’t seem to remember the last time I saw him as a rival. It was just right for him to treat her well. If he didn’t do it, then it would be my fault to let him off.
Since he volunteered to use his own power to interrogate these spirits and only let Jane to take the role as the one who asked the questions, there was no way I would let her refuse. Also, it was the first time I saw him use his power up close. We had the same type of power, but the way he utilized his was beyond my comprehension.
“Good idea.” I nodded in agreement before she could refuse him.
“Then, go ahead.” Jane stepped back to let Sanji work properly. I watched the man’s spirit was being tortured cruelly by Sanji. If his spirit couldn’t hold on, I was sure he would have passed away by the third minute.
Jane, on the other hand, had walked towards the other spirits that were being tied by my chain. They were all hanging in the air as they waited for their turn to be interrogated. Ever since that man spouted some nonsense curse towards Jane, I had sealed the other’s mouth just in case they joined in. I only needed to wait for Jane’s cue and I would release the seal to any spirit that she wanted.
However, all of these spirits were so stubborn even though they had seen our strength. Were they stubborn or just stupid? I had no idea. Obviously, they had witnessed their friend got tortured to the point the night wasn’t so calm anymore, why didn’t they just confess the person behind the attack? Also, the other ghosts were even running away far away from us whenever they heard the painful screams. It was a comical scene, but was it possible the scream scared them away?
The interrogation went for almost three hours before one of them finally shouted. “I’ll talk! I’ll talk! Don’t torture me anymore!”
Sanji stopped his torture and Jane stopped poking the needles on their body. I sealed the others mouth just in case they interrupted the confession. The three of us approached the man and waited for the man to start talking.
“I don’t know about the other, but...” He took a deep breath. “I got a message, some cash in an envelope, a picture and some information. The message is a simple one.”
“Send as many shadows as you can to haunt this man’s house.”
