Chapter 18: Reggie for the win!
"Reggie should do fine, " Rose asserted. Blake at that point couldn't tell if this was just sheer confidence Rose was exuding or she was being totally ignorant. Either way, it appeared she knew what she was doing.
A hush descended upon the scene, the gunshots no more.
However the silence was disrupted once more by a resounding impact on the car's glass.
*Bang!!*
*Bang!!*
By the driver's seat, Blake witnessed a man's head violently colliding with the mirror, snorting blood from his nose. The man's head was being smashed on the reinforced glass of the car like it was a game of whack a mole.
The brutal onslaught continued, the man's head getting bashed not once not twice but continuously until his face was smashed into itself, becoming nothing more than a roadkill.
The entire time, Blake couldn't even see who held the man's head that was being smashed. Even the head, he didn't recognize it but knew it wasn't Reggie.
While still hooked on the fact that he just witnessed how a man's head was seemingly being smashed into the car by God knows who, simultaneously, Blake's side door swung open, revealing a gun-wielding figure.
"Hands up and step the fuck out now!" the masked man's command echoed, freezing Blake, his trembling hands instinctively raised above his head in cooperation. No arguments needed when a gun was pointed to his head.
Expecting Rose to comply, Blake turned to find his CEO unmoved, her gaze fixed ahead, unflinching in the face of imminent danger.
"Madam, are you deaf? Step out now and get on your fucking knees!!!" This time around, the tone of the command spurred Blake to cautiously exit the car, obediently complying with the armed man's command.
Yet, Rose, an unyielding presence amid chaos, remained seated, resolute.
As Blake cautiously stepped out of the car, Reggie emerged from an alternative direction, diverting the armed man's attention away from him.
"No, stand the fuck down, you fucking freak!" the armed man bellowed, redirecting his focus to Reggie.
Unperturbed, Reggie continued advancing, prompting the armed man to squeeze the trigger.
*Bang!*
*Bang!!*
*Bang!!*
Blake's entire being froze as he closed his eyes, flinching with every shot he heard. He remained on his knees, trembling with the anticipation of being the next target.
'Ah fuck! So many red flags and I chose to ignore them! I've barely made it anywhere in life! Been two years since I last had sex!' Blake saw his life flash before his eyes as these thoughts swirled in his mind.
Astonishingly, the armed man, bewildered, exclaimed, "What the... fuck?!" as Reggie persisted in his relentless approach.
Expecting Reggie's demise, Blake, with wide-eyed astonishment, found him still advancing toward the armed man, unscathed.
He couldn't believe what he saw. Or did he hallucinate the shots he heard? No, it sounds to real!
In the car, Rose remained fixated on the dented windscreen, seemingly indifferent to the unfolding drama.
"Fine, fuck you, freak! I'm killing everyone!" the armed man threatened, pointing his gun menacingly at Blake's head. Blake, oblivious to the danger, finally noticed Rose glancing at him, a fleeting expression change as she looked to almost want to get up from her seat.
But she didn't.
*kiarrk!!!*
"Argh!!!" My hand. The armed man screamed. Blake could hear something drop to the floor and as he turned, Reggie had picked up the gun with one hand and began to plunge bullets into the formerly armed man's head, perforating his head with shots.
Brain juice and and the last evidence of his stupidity to step to a Shelly came flowing outside.
Stunned, Blake looked up to find Reggie, the driver, standing before him—hands stained with blood, face concealed by a blood mask. He seemed absolutely nonchalant to the fact that he had created holes in another man's face leaving Blake wondering what else he had done that the smoke concealed.
"My lord, there are more coming. Come with me," Reggie urgently directed Rose's attention.
Yet, Rose, the embodiment of poised authority, remained seated, her elegance unruffled.
"Secure him instead. Worry less about me," she calmly commanded, undisturbed by the impending threat.
Adjusting her crop top and high waist pants with casual grace, Rose opened her car door and stepped outside.
The impending danger was met by her with an air of nonchalance. In the distance, the echoes of approaching footsteps signaled the arrival of more trouble.
"My lord, I can't let you get harmed," Reggie expressed his concern, torn between duty and loyalty.
Rose could see Reggie struggling to comply with her order. She knew why this was so. Reggie was more inclined to protect her as that was his first order above everything else. He couldn't disregard Rose and instead save Blake. It was unnatural, totally against his nature.
Understanding Reggie's unwavering commitment, Rose relented with a stipulation.
"Fine, keep them as far away from us as possible. I'll seek shelter."
Turning toward Blake, Rose issued a directive with cool determination. "Let's go."
Rose took Blake by the hand and urged him to get up so they could leave.
Blake with feet still shaking managed to get back up, glancing back at the wall where a fully grown man had been turned into a graffiti.
He saw the look on Rose's face and disturbingly, he couldn't find fear there. She was too relaxed for his comfort.
Was she so detached from her own feelings that normal human emotions didn't move her?
Blake couldn't comprehend how someone would be so calm in such a situation.
But his thoughts still lingered on seconds ago as they fled the scene.
Why was someone armed with a gun seemingly terrified at the sight of Reggie?
And what's more, as much as it was a good thing that it happened, Blake couldn't get over the fact that the armed man missed his shot at point blank range, multiple times.
'How do you miss that many times?!'
