Chapter 26 The God Slayer
"What happened to me? Where am I? Luna? Edna?"
Nathan could still hear his own voice clearly. But the only thing that he could see was darkness, complete darkness.
"Yoo, kid…" Another voice was heard. A grown man's voice that sounded exhausted from the way he spoke.
"Who are you?" Nathan tried to remain calm. He tried to catch his breath.
"Yoo, kid… How are you?"
Nathan tried to find the source of the sound. "Sorry, but where am I? What place is this? And may I know who you are?"
"Yoo, kid. Hoah…. I'm so tired. I wanted to say something important, but I am too lazy."
Nathan swallowed hard, trying to be brave. "Sir, may I know who you are? Have I done anything wrong by holding the sword?"
Nathan interrogated the stranger. The longer he felt, the more panicked he was about what had happened to him.
"Yoo, kid. You don't have to worry. I'm only here for a while. I'm too lazy to even leave the task to you." The man continued, still in his lazy tone.
"Are you someone related to the blessing of the sloth, sir? Oh, sorry if I'm wrong."
"Yoo, kid… Smart guess. You can call me that."
There was a spark of light somewhere. A dazzling light that suddenly covered Nathan's body made him visible.
He was standing in a dark and empty room.
Nathan looked up, and he found someone else in front of him.
"Yoo, kid." The man raised his hand and waved it at Nathan.
Although the man looked old, his body was still sturdy. He had long blond hair and a wrinkled face.
Nathan could see the man was exhausted from his eyes.
"Sir? My name, Nathan." Nathan lowered his head. He tried to control himself when he sensed the man before him did not pose a threat to him.
"So you're a sloth holder? And… Greed too? Interesting, interesting."
The man sat on the transparent stand and held his hands on his knees.
Nathan looked up but still tried not to directly meet the old man's face.
"I'll make it quick. So, you take over the sword. And complete my task. Hehehe… It's that simple."
"Task?" Nathan looked up, confused.
"Yes, killing the gods."
Nathan was taken aback for a moment and widened his eyes. "What? Killing what?"
"Kill the gods, kid, yes. Kill those sin gods."
"Wait, wait, wait, sir… This is too much. I'm a nobody that was struggling to reach level 50. This, this is too much. This is too sudden." Nathan explained hastily.
The old man sighed. He then lay down.
"This is your fate, kid. Kill those gods."
"No. I mean." Nathan walked forward.
"Stop!" The man lifted his hand. "Please respect my personal space. Just stand where you were."
Nathan stopped and took a few steps back. "I know nothing, even about the two blessings I have. I don't have any big goals. And this killing the god thing really makes little sense to me. How can a mortal like me get such an enormous task? Killing the gods? It would be simplicity itself for the gods to finish me as soon as they find out about my whereabouts!"
"Yes, kid. You don't have to worry. You're not alone."
Nathan felt his heart beat fast. He even thought that he was just dreaming. "Is this just a dream?"
"Please don't repeat the same mistake I made in the past. Gather as many allies as you can. The time will come when you will know the reason for all this. Be brave, kid."
Nathan shook his head quickly. "No, sir."
"Okay, kid. I have little time." The man lifted himself up again and sat down with his hands on his knees.
"I can't tell you everything. I'm sorry, but this is for your growth. You're not alone. And you don't have to worry because the gods won't come directly to you. I'm sorry, but be strong. It's painful in the ass, I know. And, hmmm, actually, I'm not good at encouraging someone. Use the power of this sword wisely. And… See you kid, goodbye. You are the God Slayer now."
Nathan wanted more explanation. He stepped forward and opened his mouth to ask, but his vision suddenly blurred.
"Master Nathan…. Master…"
Nathan heard another voice that suddenly woke him up.
"Young master… Please… wake up…."
Nathan felt someone shaking his body. He felt his body again. He immediately opened his eyes.
He got up, checking the surrounding situation. Edna, Luna, and even Fang were around him. He was no longer in the middle of the magma, but on the ground's surface.
"Where is that man? Where is that sloth man?"
Nathan felt the sweat still dripping down his body. His heart was beating very fast. He was still horrified at what he had just received.
"Where's the sword?"
"Young master… Are you all right?" Edna grabbed Nathan's face slowly. She looked worried.
"Edna? Where's the sword?"
Edna turned to the side, showing a sword lying on the ground.
"You suddenly lost consciousness. Ms. Edna brought the sword for you. We're going to get out of here right away."
Nathan crawled over to the sword. He fell silent when he saw the sword lying on the ground.
"Was what I had just a dream?"
He tried to bring his hand closer to its grip. "I have to make sure. I have to make sure!"
Nathan held the hilt of the sword again. And…
