Chapter 22: Both are Smugglers

Unlike the unending mountain ranges he had seen in his previous life, Li Fan’s current location was surprisingly above a vast ocean!
Infinity stretching in all directions, no end in sight.
“What’s happening? Why is the place I emerged this time different?” Li Fan was somewhat bewildered.
He took out a map from his bosom that he had drawn from memory, attempting to find the ocean’s location on it.
But even after repeated comparisons, he could not find it.
“Forget it. I can only take it one step at a time.” Unaware of where he had made a mistake, Li Fan put away the map, heaved a sigh of relief, “Thankfully I have the Tai Yan Boat as a substitute for walking, otherwise I’d be trapped here. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to find a inhabited place before the Spirit Stones inside the Tai Yan Boat run out.”
Not the type to wallow in self-pity, Li Fan soon set off.
Having selected a direction, he piloted the Tai Yan Boat, flying and searching for traces of a city all around him.
The ocean was truly boundless. Li Fan flew for seven days and nights, yet saw not a trace of human life.
Fortunately, he had enough food stored in the Tai Yan Boat, so he did not need to worry about survival.
More than a dozen days passed like this, the Tai Yan Boat was slowing down gradually, obviously running out of power soon.
Just when the situation seemed hopeless, Li Fan finally made out the vague silhouette of a boat on the sea surface in the distance.
Overjoyed, Li Fan promptly lowered the Tai Yan Boat’s altitude and slowly approached.
Upon getting closer, he was momentarily speechless.
It was indeed a boat, but one that was about to sink.
Apparently attacked by something, a large hole had been torn in the boat’s hull; two-thirds of the boat had already disappeared beneath the water’s surface.
In the waters around the boat, several dozen people were struggling; they were obviously the boat’s crew.
Most of these people could not swim and were barely able to keep themselves afloat by clinging to pieces of wrecked wood, preventing themselves from sinking.
Li Fan, while hesitating whether to deploy the Tai Yan Boat to rescue these people, heard one of the surviving men shouting with great effort: “Everyone, do not fear, I have already sent a signal to the Immortal Teacher! He will hurry over to rescue us soon! Everyone, hold on just a little longer!”
Hearing these words, Li Fan had an idea.
Putting away the Tai Yan Boat, Li Fan jumped into the sea and quietly swam towards the group of people.
Blending seamlessly into the crowd, Li Fan also pretended to be on his last legs, struggling to survive.
After some time, a streak of light flew from a distance and stopped above the crowd.
“Immortal Teacher, save me!”
“Immortal Teacher, save our lives!”
The people, upon seeing hope, screamed for salvation.
“Silence!”
The voice belonged to a man. hilt his face and figure were obscured as if behind
a layer of gauze and were unclear.
The man grunted coldly, and after seemingly performing some spell, Li Fan found that he could not make a sound.
The crowd abruptly fell silent.
The Immortal Teacher then flew to the side of the sinking boat and with a slight hand gesture, hoisted up the boat that had largely sunk.
Then with a flash of light, the large hole in the boat hull was instantly repaired.
Next, he glanced at the group of people floating in the sea, grunted coldly, made a snapping gesture at the air in front of him, and then hauled upward.
Li Fan and the rest of the people felt an invisible hand lift them, dragging them towards the repaired boat.
“Bam, bam, bam!”
For a time, people rescued were thrown onto the boat by the Immortal Teacher as if they were dumplings being ladled out of a pot.
Unable to speak, the crowd could only groan quietly.
But their faces were filled with awe and joy at being rescued; they did not dare to complain at all.
When all the people were rescued, the Immortal Teacher flew above them and spoke in an unpleasant tone: “Who sent me the signal?”
The man who had previously been comforting the crowd immediately knelt down.
The Immortal Teacher waved his hand and removed the spell on him.
While kowtowing, the man said, “My humble self, Su Changyu…”.
But the Immortal Teacher cut him off: “You understand the rules, right? Once we reach our destination, I have nothing to do with it. I have never seen you before, I don’t know who you are. Do you understand?”
Upon hearing this, Su Changyu began to kowtow again: “I understand. When I left, my elders at home had already explained…”
Midway through his sentence, his voice abruptly ceased.
That was because, after the Immortal Teacher nodded his approval, he cast the silence spell on Su Changyu again with a flick of his hand.
The Immortal Teacher ignored these mortals, went to the front of the boat, cast some spell, and the boat began to head in a certain direction with great speed.
Watching this scene, many of the mortals were visibly stunned.
There were also a few who seemingly had not yet recovered from the previous disaster; they merely sat on the deck, huddled and shivering, whispering softly.
An eerie silence fell over the boat.
After a considerable amount of time, the Immortal Teacher’s silence spell wore off. Following that, people in the hall started discussing in hushed groups.
“We’ve been terribly unlucky this time, actually encountering a sea monster’s attack. We were nearly a hundred people at first, but now less than half of us have survived.”
“Seek immortal, cultivate immortality… Ah, I wonder what my father was thinking, insisting on sending me to this vast world to cultivate into an immortal. If you ask me, which is happier, cultivating immortality or listening to music?”
“Exactly. Back at our place, I was at least a prince, with no lack of wealth and glory. What’s so good about this damned place, that…” Midway through the sentence, only a whimpering sound remained when his mouth was covered by his quick-reflexed companion.
At this point, the man named Su Changyu spoke: “What’s the use of saying these things now? Didn’t each of our families pay a great price to send us here? Instead of complaining, it would be better to patiently cultivate. If one really becomes an Immortal Teacher, not only is the hope of longevity attainable, but there is also the chance to return home and bring our families out.” Li Fan, hiding in the shadows, had vicariously understood these people’s
These people, like himself, were mortals exiled from the Immortal Realm.
However, it seemed that in the Immortal Realm where they belonged, the existence of the Immortal Cultivation World wasn’t much of a secret. Moreover, a mature “smuggling” route had been developed?
Li Fan touched his chin, deep in thought..
