Chapter 53: Rin Language
Chapter 53: Rin Language
At Rin’s suggestion, the group decided to head to the arcade in front of the station.
“I’ll give Yuuki-kun the right to follow us”, said Yui, so he walked behind the two of them.
His goal was to have the two of them to hang out together, so Yuuki had no particular objections to this.
The only problem was that since they were such an attention-grabbing duo, it was difficult to keep a sense of distance from them. If he wasn’t careful, he would look like a stalker.
In fact, he felt that every man he passed glanced at them.
“But it’s surprising. I didn’t expect Rin-chan to suggest an arcade.”
“R-really?”
“Rin-chan, it doesn’t seem like you go to the arcade much.”
He listened to their conversation closely.
Yuuki was trying to understand why there were so many differences between the two, or rather, why they had such different attitudes.
For a while, Yui would ask questions like, “What did you have for breakfast~?” and “Where’d you buy those clothes~?” and Rin would answer.
“…”
“…”
But the conversation ended rather quickly.
Yuuki assumed that when two girls got together, they would chatter and chatter endlessly, but for some reason, they were quiet.
(Should I bring up something for them to talk about?)
Yuuki suddenly remembered the anime movie last night when Mizuna said, “Yuuki-kun, let’s watch it together!”
“Which one do you guys like better, Barusu or Damare Kozou?”1
Yui glanced back at him for a moment but immediately turned back to look front. She told him to shut up.
After that, he heard a popping sound, but it seemed that Rin was somehow refraining from saying something.
And in a weird mood, they reached the street in front of the station.
The number of stores on the street were increasing alongside the number of people.
Along the way, Yuuki saw a demo screen of a game being played in front of a shop, so he pointed to the monitor in an attempt to get them to talk, as they were still being quiet.
“That’s the game Yui’s good at.”
What was on the screen was the game which Yui played against Mizuna.
She glanced at him again, but ignored him.
“That’s Yui’s favorite game.”
He tried to rephrase what he said, but she just glared at Yuuki harder than before and ignored him.
Apparently, she didn’t want to talk about it.
it seemed she was bearing a grudge since she lost to Mizuna.
“Yui’s favorite game…”
However, Rin seemed to be interested in it and suddenly stopped to stare.
Yui stopped, as she had no choice, and spoke up from the side.
“It didn’t seem like Rin-chan plays games.”
“W-well… it’s not like I don’t play… but… games are fun.”
“Fuu~ that’s cool~”
Why did she think that was cool?
She should just say that she wants to play together.
In the end, Yui kept going, and that was the end of that conversation.
As they walked further down the street, they got to a building with a bookstore, when Yui stopped and said, “Ah, that’s right” like she remembered something.
“Do you mind if we stop here for a minute?”
“Nope, I don’t mind. That’s completely fine.”
In response to Rin’s nodding, Yui entered the bookstore first.
She went up the elevator and went to the comic book corner on the second floor.
She picked up a manga that was stacked in a prime location in front of the entrance.
It was a rather popular shonen manga that had gotten an anime. Even Yuuki knew about it.
“Ah, it’s a new volume. Are you buying it?”
“Course. Kariage Moe.”
“It’s goofy.”
“Shut up. Geez, where did someone think that a ghoul would be a cool character?”
“So what is this ghoul?”
Yui turned to Rin, who was staring at the manga platform.
“Rin-chan… doesn’t seem to read manga. Do you read novels or something?”
“Well, I guess so~… it’s a way to relax…”
Yuuki didn’t have any idea why Rin didn’t just say she wanted to read it too.
He couldn’t keep quiet about it, so he secretly confided in Rin.
“It’s okay to tell her you want to read it too.”
“E-eh? N-no, that’s…”
He didn’t make himself clear.
But then, Yui caught them.
“What are you two whispering about?”
“Umm, I’m interpreting for Rin…”
“Hmm? You can’t understand Yui language without an interpreter?”
He’s trying to convert Rin language into something more straightforward.
Well, Yui language was pretty different, and if he could understand it better, Yuuki wouldn’t be having so much trouble.
“Actually, Yuuki-kun, when did you start calling her Rin? You guys are on good terms hmmm?”
Yui narrowed her eyes at Yuuki and Rin. Perhaps it was because she didn’t like what he called her.
Rin was looking uncomfortable with her eyes swimming and in the end, she stared at Yuuki.
For some reason, he was treated as the bad guy.
After that, Yui paid and left the bookstore.
He wasn’t sure if she was mad about what happened earlier, but she started to talk less, and the group fell into silence.
They continued to walk with a strange atmosphere and finally arrived at the arcade.
It was a two-story building as well as one of the biggest arcades in the area.
Although Yuuki rarely went there alone, Keitaro often talked about it and it was a popular spot among the students at their school.
As soon as they entered the store, they could hear the sounds of music, game sound effects, and coins hitting each other.
Rin, who suggested the place, was scurrying around, acting suspiciously.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been to an arcade.”
Yui said that while looking around.
Her expression was loose and she bounced around since she was probably in a good mood.
“Ah…”
Rin, who was walking ahead with a straight face, suddenly stopped.
She was looking at several photo booths where you could take pictures.
She saw it as a chance to take a picture with Yui and get to know her.
Knowing Yui’s personality, she would probably say, “Rin-chan let’s take a picture~. Do you want to join Yuuki-kun? Guess it can’t be helped~”
With such an expectation, Yuuki made a request to Yui.
