Chapter 73 Walls To Surround The City
At the moment, it took me a while just to run over to the border and place down the [basic stone wall], Killer Winter definitely wasn't making it easy to get things done.
I crafted quite a few [basic stone walls] and kept them in my inventory as I warmed my body up by the fire. I guess I'd have to go outside again in order to place some more down. As the warm fire defrosted my body, I took a deep breath before charging through the door again and running to the border.
I ran over to the place I placed the first few [basic stone walls] and began putting down more blueprints of the walls. Builder Minions began coming over to start building them as I ran along the edge of the border. It eventually got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore, my entire body was getting stiff from the cold as I tried to place as many [basic stone walls] as I could.
After just over a few minutes, I quickly made my way back toward the hut. As the wooden building came into view, my body began vibrating more and more violently.
How on earth are we meant to do anything in this weather?
There was a very good possibility that lots of humans are dying right now. Moreso, people were likely going to start dying at a fast rate once they begin running out of resources. I assumed that most people didn't have the capability to collect resources whilst being huddled up in their huts. As a result, they would slowly starve due to a lack of necessary resources, eventually falling victim to attrition.
The only way to really survive in this Killer Winter was to either have a really powerful system or to stay in big groups. Alone, I doubt that many people have the capability to survive in these conditions.
I ripped open the door and once again, I was swept by the blast of warm air from inside.
"You look really stupid right now," Chloe commented.
"Hey, I have to do what I have to do."
"You're building a wall, right?"
"Yeah."
"I can reinforce the wall with some iron, once you build it."
"Ah, that sounds like a good idea."
I stood directly in front of the fire as it warmed up my frosted body. This was likely what I was going to have to do if I wanted to finish constructing the wall. It was going to be a constant cycle of running in and out of the hut, placing down [basic stone walls].
In the meantime, I opened my [wood generators] and looked at how many resources they had produced.
[collect: 945 wood]
Ah, that was quite a large amount. Those [enhancement agents] really did come in handy. I had been looking for something to use them on for a pretty long time.
As I added the wood into my inventory, I decided to stoke the fire a little bit more before preparing to leave the hut to place some more walls down.
After warming myself up a little bit more, and inhaling a little too much smoke from the fire, I decided to take another trip outside. After coughing out some of the thick smoke, I pushed open the door and made my way outside once again.
Through the ice-cold air, I once again ran to the border, I had covered around 20 metres of one side of the border. My settlement was basically a square so it had four pretty equal borders of 50 metres each. I continued the wall and lengthened it pretty much to the corner. With that, I decided to go back to the hut.
I jumped back into the sea of warm air and took a quick breather.
I guess I'd have a look at the Global Rankings.

Looks like I had gone up a rank, I was pretty close to the top 10 and subsequent top 5 now. I guess there were quite a few people between the 1050 to 1300 area of EPS. From what I could see, most of the people near the top weren't struggling as much as I'd expected.
I guess if you're really strong, the cold probably doesn't affect you as much.
I probably need to get a move on if I wanted to keep moving up the ranks. I wonder if the global rankings are ever going to have a tangible effect, just considering the world and the system, I assumed that everything would eventually have a purpose. It probably just hasn't been revealed to us yet.
Now that I'd warmed up a little bit, I decided to go outside and place some more walls. My Builder Minions had already finished constructing a few of the earlier walls. As I made my way outside, I saw that there were a few relatively sturdy-looking stone walls. They looked pretty strong so they'd be useful against the zombies.
Chloe did say that she'd reinforce them even more so this will probably help significantly with my nighttime survival. As I began building more [basic stone walls] along another side of the border, I decided to leave a little space to act as a 'gate' of sorts. This way, I would be able to funnel the zombies and also I'd eventually need a way to leave the settlement as well.
After building around 30 more metres of walls, I was really starting to feel the cold again. Vapour from my breath filled the air as I rushed back toward the hut. I opened the door again and warmed myself up.
As I took another breather, I looked over at Chloe.
She still looked quite unhappy.
After a brief moment of silence, she began talking to me.
"William, what's your real opinion on working with others?" She asked.
"Well, it's difficult to explain, I guess in the end, I find other people a hassle."
"But your actions seem to say otherwise."
"I mean..."
It honestly was pretty hard to explain.
