Chapter 19: A Level Zero's Struggle (10)

A Level Zero's Struggle (part 10)

Since he had already successfully completed his first mission under that team of the Guild, he might be asked to pay up the annual fee now.

Mostly, one whole month was given to a brawler if he could succeed in some mission and bring back some spoils.

Now the chaser had set his eyes at the brawler. He was waiting for a chance now.

They were going back to the lower edges where they could possibly find some level one monster. But unlike what the chaser thought, Qiao was not completely clueless as to what was going on in his brain.

In fact, he was keeping his eyes at him.

As for why he had saved him, that was simply to test him whether he would return the favor of saving his life, or turn back into a greedy hunter.

With a stronger partner he could hunt a monster more easily. Now he wanted to find out whether this guy was good enough to team up with.

He had politely followed the chaser, otherwise he could have even forced the chaser when he was in a weaker position. Instead he had displayed a much more servile attitude as he wanted to test his character better.

So, it was better that he himself followed him. Now it seemed that he had no influence on this chaser. In this manner he could observe for himself how this chaser behaved and make a judgement. Being stuck with a team mate who acted like a wolf dressed in sheep's clothing would only lead to him being betrayed.

As for why Qiao continued to hunt with this guy for now, it was because he did not want to return to the Guild with the title of a Brawler still on him.

He simply don't want others to bully him anymore.

Whether in this world or the world where he came from, if he returned he would make sure to live a better life this time and punch all the bullies on their faces.

He was sure if this place he was to encounter a monster here he would not give up on the chance. Even if the monster was already fighting a different group of chasers, he would ask to be given a chance.

Now they were at the premises of lower edges where level one monsters can be found.

During their journey, Qiao wore the upper pelage fleece without changing his actual clothes. If he found suitable place for changing then he would but not in the open.

It was a long clothe with a maroon hue and white tiger fringe.

From one glance, it looked like a tailor jointed various kinds of fur without caring about size requirements.

Still it was better than to walk around with the tattered clothing.

The chaser was trying his best to not ask this youth, the question which was pounding his head.

He wanted to ask whether he belonged to some established family of hunters or traders, so that he would be sure that this youth was not someone to be offended. It was easy to not recognize special people of prestige as those in the lower ranks never had the chance to know about the upper echelon.

If he belonged to those families then he should abandoned this idea to rob him else the youth might bring his backing and then he would certainly end up dead.

"The strong families are doing good business these days," he suddenly stroked up a conversation, to find out in a different way.

Qiao who was trying to sense his surrounding gave a late response, "Who are these strong families by the way?" since this chaser talked, he could ask to get some information he thought.

"They are the actual rulers of the business around the Middletown, how come you don't know about them?" the chaser pretended to be surprised.

"I came from a very far place and know nothing about the strong families or the traders around here," Qiao shook his shoulders and resumed to check whether there were any signs of monster around here.

The chaser nodded at his answer and fell into some thought.

"I seemed to hear something," suddenly the level one chaser who had more sharp senses spoke.

He could tell that there a group fighting around with a monster.

Qiao was also ready. He could soon hear the loud and mixed voices.

A group of six members happened to spot this monster since they were six in numbers and the level of monster was not high, they thought to hunt it down and divide the spoils.

But it turned out that the monster was not ready to let them hunt so easily.

Two of them has already gotten injured at the very first moment and now others were almost struggling to survive. They of course did not run away as they had two injured members. Nor were they able to defeat the monster as it was a peak level two one. It seemed as if though they had made a wrong choice to face this monster.

Most of them were only level one, while only the leader was level two. He thought with his six members team the level two monster would not be a headache. But now they were facing a difficult situation.

The reason they had not been able to defeat it was that, this monster had incredible defense. None of their attacks were able to directly pierce through its hide and hurt it.

Only a level three chaser with a same level weapon could hunt such monster. And this was the price for their ignorance.

Now they were worried whether they would still be able to go back alive after this.

The chaser who was walking with Qiao waved his hand as soon as he saw the group. He was familiar with them as they were from the same Guild.

Qiao was registered today so he was not familiar with anyone.

The leader saw the chaser and his spirits came back; he was happy that another level two had come on the right time.

But it was not as he had wished. This chaser was indeed level two but because of barely surviving death when Qiao saved him from getting maimed, he lost his level two experience points, and now he was only a slightly more powerful level one.

The pity and it would have been better if he had died, facing shame after surviving might broke him if he has sliver of shame but he was more shameless than his situation.
