Chapter 354 - 354 Misunderstanding
354 Misunderstanding
“I can’t answer your question.”
Qiao Jing only wanted to escape from this place as he looked into Qiao Yue’s clear eyes.
“You knew about this long ago, right?” Qiao Yue looked at Qiao Jing.
Qiao Jing nodded solemnly.
He had already found out about Qiao Yue’s background after she was injured the first time.
However, he only found out that Qiao Yue was a descendant of the Yin family. He didn’t find out about his mother’s involvement in Qiao Yue’s mother’s death.
“So, are you still going to take my side?” Qiao Yue looked at Qiao Jing.
The air became still. Qiao Jing didn’t know how to answer her question. He liked her so much that no matter what happened between her parents and the Qiao family, he would always be her second brother.
“I can’t choose but I won’t harm you.” Qiao Jing finally said in pain.
He had to take the side of the Qiao family, even protect his mother. So, the best promise he could give Qiao Yue was that he wouldn’t harm her.
Qiao Yue looked at Qiao Jing, the disappointment in her eyes obvious.
“If I do anything to your parents in future, you won’t stop me, right?”
Qiao Jing looked at Qiao Yue in surprise. “You mean…”
“I have no plans to let Qiao Yi and Qiao Li off the hook, or first aunt for that matter. They were all murderers, and they’re even connected to Austin now. I won’t show any mercy when I make them pay even if you stand in my way.”
Qiao Yue stood up, her entire being cold, her eyes unprecedentedly icy.
“But Qiao Yue, Grandpa is true to you and Auntie. If you do something like that, I’m afraid they won’t let you off either.”
Qiao Yue sneered. “Do you know why my mother approached your family back then?”
Qiao Jing was stunned. He had not investigated this matter.
“Because Qiao Yi and Qiao Li were already connected to the drug lords decades ago. You didn’t expect that, right?” Qiao Yue smiled and Qiao Jing felt a chill run down his spine.
“You mean the Qiao family has been rotten for decades?”
Qiao Jing was stunned. He had been in charge of the Qiao family for so many years, but this was the first time he had heard such words.
“That’s right, second brother. I didn’t expect that the famous Qiao family in C-Country, known for their excellent upbringing, would do such despicable things behind the scenes.”
Qiao Jing felt as if he had been doused in cold water.
“No, I’ve investigated the Qiao family thoroughly. It’s impossible, it’s impossible for such a thing to have happened.”
“Second brother, don’t be silly. I’ve never believed in the nonsense that the Qiao family is innocent. Let’s just treat everything that happened between us during this time as an ill-fated relationship.”
Qiao Jing stood on the spot speechlessly for a long time.
Finally, he took out a box and put it in Qiao Yue’s hand.
“This is my gift to you when I declare my love. Keep it.”
Qiao Yue looked at Qiao Jing in shock.
What did he mean?
Declaration of love?
She opened the box and found a key inside.
“This is the house I bought with the first pot of gold I made when I started working for the Qiao family. I was going to use it as my nuptial home but I don’t need it now. I would like you to have it.”
Qiao Yue felt her heart skip a beat.
What did he mean? A nuptial home? What did Qiao Jing think of her before? “Second brother, are you saying that you’ve never treated me as your sister?”
Qiao Jing nodded. “Actually, I’ve always liked you.”
The air became still again, as if time had stopped.
He liked her. Qiao Jing told Qiao Yue that he had always liked her.
It sounded so ironic, but it was the truth.
“I’m really sorry for letting you fall in love with your enemy’s daughter.”
Qiao Yue bit her lip and tossed the key back to Qiao Jing.
The key drew a beautiful arc in the air and landed on Qiao Jing’s body.
Qiao Jing did not catch it and the key fell to the ground with a clatter.
“Second brother, let’s just treat everything we’ve experienced as an ill-fated relationship.”
Qiao Yue turned and left, leaving Qiao Jing alone on the spot.
Qiao Jing looked at the girl’s dragon-embroidered skirt and lowered his head to laugh at himself.
Who knew that it would end up like this?
The two of them really couldn’t leave any dignity for each other.
The key was on the floor, reflecting the sunlight. Qiao Jing turned and left.
The key was all alone on the floor, catching nobody’s attention.
