My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 518: Preparing For Dynamo FC

Dynamo FC was a very tough team and having them as their next opponents meant that they had to take things seriously.

There was going to be no day off for them this time around as Norman instructed them after the match yesterday to appear at the stadium the next day for a recovery session and maybe after that, get some on-field practice in.

They were all required to show up at the stadium before 9:45 AM and that meant that Dave was going to be leaving the house earlier than usual today.

He got up as early as 5:30 AM to get his body warmed up for the day ahead of him and by 8:20 he was upstairs, getting ready to head out.

Meanwhile, Emma was downstairs checking his backpack to make sure that everything he needed was in there.

Once she was sure that everything was in there, she zipped up the bag and dropped it by her side on the couch before leaning back.

She stayed like that for a while with her gaze on the ceiling way up there before slowly closing her eyes.

She was just about to doze off when she heard footsteps coming down the stairs.

"Finally decided to come down, huh?" She muttered before slowly opening her eyes.

Just like she thought, it was Dave coming down the stairs and he was heading toward her now.

"Are you done?"

"Yeah." He responded before reaching for his bag but she blocked him off with her arm before he could get to it.

'What did I do now?'

"Emma."

"Yes." She replied, staring deep into his eyes.

"Can you get your hand out of the way so that I can take my bag?" He asked, politely.

"So you can head off leaving me in this state again?"

He thought she was playing at first but she sounded quite serious.

"To be honest, if I could carry some of it for you I would, although, I doubt that's going to make my work any easier," Dave remarked before squatting down beside her.

That response caught her by surprise and that was quite evident with the expression on her face now.

"You would really do that?"

"Of course, I mean I can imagine what you're going through now so it would only be right if I try to help you but I guess that's not physically possible." He expressed. "How about this? We're definitely going to get a day off if we beat Dynamo FC. When that happens, I'll help you with all the chores around the house, and after that, we'll go somewhere nice and relax for the rest of the day."

"Dave." She muttered as her face slowly lit up with a smile. "But you know there's a high chance that you guys might end up not beating them."

"Yeah, I'm aware of that, I'm counting on that not happening but even if it does I'll just ask for a day off, I'm sure the coach will understand."

"No, you guys better win that game, I know that's the only way the both of us can be truly when we go out after that day." She shook her head.

Hearing her say that, Dave let out a sigh and shifted his gaze to his bag before shifting it back to her.

"I can't make any promises of winning because football is a team sport and I don't know how my teammates are going to perform but here's a promise that I can make. I'll try my best to make sure we come out on top." He promised.

"Well, you are currently the best goalkeeper in the league so hearing that gives me a sense of hope." She smiled.

That was the moment her arm slid down the bag.

'Since the very beginning, you just couldn't see it.'

"I'm glad it does," Dave responded before leaning closer to kiss her.

After that, he turned to her protrusion and kissed it.

"I'll see you later, Devon."

He grabbed his bag after that and quickly made his way to the door to open it.

"Bye Hun, I love you."

"I love you too." She responded before he exited the room and shut the door.

Now it was just her in the quiet house and she couldn't help but let out a deep sigh.

"I miss my job."

________ _______

Just like Norman said, what the players were going to be doing mainly today was a couple of indoor activities including yoga to help them recover from yesterday's game and lessen the chances of someone getting injured.

They were still in the process of doing that as all the players were in the stadium's gym but at the moment, they were all just doing whatever they wanted.

The bench press, treadmill, weights, back extension machine, reverse fly machine, etc were all occupied by the players.

Dave on the other hand was sitting on the blue Swiss ball balance in the room.

Ordinarily, he would have someone try to stretch him with balls by throwing it a few distances away from him but the club had just purchased a ball blaster so he was making use of it.

The blaster wasn't set to the lowest speed so he was able to catch all of them without falling off the ball.

"Nice, how about we go all the way to the highest speed then?" Roland inquired as he moved closer to the machine.

"Sure, go ahead, I can take it." The goalkeeper shrugged.

There was no need to refill this version of the ball blaster as it had a pipe connected to a container with a lot of balls, the only thing the left back did was choose the highest speed which was number three before pressing the start button.

The first ball quickly came flying out at that moment and this one was trying to take advantage of the fact that the goalkeeper was sitting to get the ball past him from above.

However, Dave was fast enough to quickly stretch himself without getting off the ball, and with both of his hands, he was able to catch the ball.

The second one quickly came flying out after that one but given the fact that it wasn't as difficult as the first one, he didn't have any problem catching it.

This particular exercise was quite difficult given the fact that Dave had to catch the balls not just stop them from getting past him, but the goalkeeper was able to catch all ten balls fired at him by the ball blaster at full speed and that was without using ball magnet even once.

"Impressive," Roland commented as he joined both of his hands together in applause.

"Thank you."

"Hey, Dave, try catching this one!"

The goalkeeper quickly turned his gaze to the area to see a ball heading toward him, it was right at his face before he could even do anything and not being that fast, the ball ended up smashing right into his face, knocking him off the Swiss ball in the process.

That shot had come from none other than Minino who had the attention of the whole squad now.

"I'm sorry." He apologized immediately but there was no way to tell if that was genuine as he also crashed to his knees at that moment and burst into laughter. "Honestly, I'm really sorry but I just can't help it…"

Dave was not amused because Minino wasn't the only one laughing at him now.
