Chapter 480 There Might Be Beef
Norman had to come in later to congratulate the players because they sort of exceeded his expectations in this match.
After what happened in their first meeting, he was expecting to win the game with at most two goals but they ended up finding the back of the net four times, they subdued Ronino FC in the match and that was something he was very proud of.
However, they were still three points behind with their next match being against Supreme United.
This was a match that was going to decide who was going to stay on top of the table and he just had to bring it up.
They had to beat the Supremes to equalize them on points and then top them with goal difference but if their neighbors should beat them then things were going to become pretty difficult for them.
Catching up to a team with a six-point lead was not easy, especially when that team was Supreme United.
Norman just shared his thoughts about the upcoming match and didn't dwell too much on it because he knew that they still had a lot of time to talk about it and come up with ways to conquer them.
The players were in Ronino so after listening to everything Norman had to say, they had to start making their way back to Unique City.
Ronino wasn't that far from Unique City when you compare it to Spree, but they still had to make the trip there by flight because it would still take too long with the bus.
The sky was completely dark with only a portion of the moon visible as the players made their way into the plane.
However, it wasn't like the area was dark because the airport had a lot of lights to counter the darkness.
Once everyone got on the plane, they made their way to their seats and sat down quietly.
Well, most of them sat down quietly.
"Next up, Supreme!" Minino yelled as soon as he sat down beside Merino.
"Yeah, next week," Gregory commented from where he was sitting in front of him.
"We're going to crush them just like we did on our first meeting." Minino asserted.
"We didn't crush them on our first meeting," Merino interjected. "I mean, we were obviously the better team in that match but that doesn't mean anything because we still ended up drawing it."
"This time we're going to dominate them and crush them with a convincing scoreline, we're better than we were at the start of the season." The midfielder said.
"Yeah, I sort of believe that but I still have some doubts because if that was completely we wouldn't have struggled so much against Dynamo FC, Dave had to be the one to come in despite being injured to save us."
"That match was a bit umm…." The midfielder had to pause now as his face was slowly turning red in embarrassment just thinking about what went down in that match.
"You mean embarrassing?" Merino muttered before leaning closer to him with a grin on his face.
"Yeah, but that wasn't completely my fault."
"Let it go, it's all in the past." The winger sighed before turning his gaze away from him.
Mateo was sitting beside Dave just as always, and the two seemed to be looking at something together on Mateo's phone.
"All these twisted headlines." Dave sighed before falling back to his seat.
"Yeah, this is a very twisted headline," Mateo said. "And the message is also twisted, I don't even remember saying any of this."
What they were looking at now was a headline that emerged from an interview that was done after their League match against Spree City.
Mateo was asked a question about his goal record so far this season and the other players who were fighting for the Golden Boot this season.
He gave very simple answers about everything but the media seemed to have twisted everything to make sure it got them more exposure.
The headline they were reading now read this; 'Mateo Smith blasts The Bilbeth Premier League defense for being too weak and calls out Supreme United's striker for not having a challenge for the golden boot all these years.'
A pretty long headline that was sure going to grab a lot of attention but the winger never said any of those at least he didn't say them like the article blatantly put it.
There were also a lot of outrageous claims in the article and they even had to talk about the winger's intention to leave next season which was true, but they had to insert the wrong reason for him wanting to leave.
They claimed that he wanted to leave because the league was getting too easy for him and even Supreme United were no longer a challenge.
Whoever wrote that article sure had a lot of guts to make all those wild claims.
"This right here is why I always try to avoid interviews unless it's at home because I know my sister wouldn't do something like this to me now some people are going to believe that I actually said all these." The winger seethed before facepalming himself.
"Well, Emma does include clickbaits in her article headlines sometimes but they're never as outrageous as this and she never makes up anything other than what the player said in the main body of the article." Dave expressed.
"And that is exactly how things should be, do they have to lie all the time?"
<I think both of you are missing the big picture here>
'Big picture?'
<Yeah, can't you see that there was a lot of emphasis on Supreme United there and tell me, who are you guys going to be facing next?>
'Oh, so they want to start beef between both sides.'
<Precisely and when interesting things start happening in the match because of that, they can milk that too>
'Hmm, they're really smart, I'll give that to them, and who knows, their plan might end up working.'
<Well, it all comes down to how they receive it but yeah, the chance of that match turning into something dramatic just shot up>
It didn't take long before the plane landed at Unique City and the bus was already waiting to take the players to the stadium.
The drive to the stadium was a short one, and after coming down from the bus, most of the players made their way straight to their cars and began to head home, that included Dave.
The goalkeeper had driven a little distance away from the stadium when his phone which was lying on the other seat began to ring.
He quickly turned his gaze to it to see the name 'Clark' displayed on the screen now.
'Hmm, if he's calling by this time then it has to be something important.' He said subconsciously before picking up the phone.
After that, he picked up the call and placed the phone against his ear as he kept driving.
"Hey, Clark."
"Oh, hey, Dave, how're you doing?"
"I'm okay, I'm just heading home from the stadium now."
"Oh, I thought you would be home by now, my bad."
"It's okay," Dave replied. "So…"
"Well, I got a call from a fashion and clothing company this evening. Have you heard about Stoff Mit Stool?"
"Umm…no."
"Well, it's a German fashion and clothing company and they want an endorsement deal with you." He disclosed.
"Oh, I see."
