My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 462 Third Wheel

When Dave saw that cheeky smile on her face, he thought she was about to make him do something crazy or embarrassing and he became even more convinced that it was either of those two when he tried to get it out of her and she insisted that she wasn't going to tell him anything until the next day.

The last thought in his mind before he slept that night were speculations of what she was going to make him do the next day.

"I think I'm overthinking this."

That was the last word he muttered before finally falling asleep.

<Yeah, certainly>

When the next day came, it turned out that he was actually overthinking it because what Emma wanted him to do had nothing to do with any of the things he thought about.

"Wait, so you just want me the whole day at home with you?" He inquired with confusion written all over his face but at the same time, he felt relieved.

She got up before him and had to wake him up just to tell him while they were still on the bed.

"Yeah." She replied a bit confused about why he had that look on his face. "Wait, did you think I was going to make you do something bad?"

He couldn't outright answer that question but his awkward smile gave it away.

"What kind of person do you even think I am?"

"The kind type that can be mean sometimes, I mean you've tried to make me do a few embarrassing things before." He explained trying to get his point across to her.

"Well, when you put it that way I guess you do make a point." She muttered before slowly turning her gaze to the bed. "But let's forget about all of that for the moment, I have a lot that you have to help me out with today." She added with a sly voice before leaning closer to him.

"Huh? I have to help you with things?"

"Yeah, that's part of the deal, didn't you read the contract?" She replied, staring deep into his eyes.

"What contract?"

"This one." She replied before gently pressing her lips against his.

She loved the feeling of his warm lips against hers and would have gone in deeper, but she had to stop because she didn't want to start something she wouldn't be able to handle.

"And now, it's sealed." She said after pulling out from the kiss.

<Some contract>

'Yeah, some contract.'

Dave didn't really get to help her out much because there were only a few things that she needed help with and she ended up doing most of the work in the ones that they had to do together.

He helped her with cleaning, laundry, and a few other things before she had to go downstairs, something that she also needed his help with.

She kept on smiling with every interaction they had while he was helping her out in the kitchen and seeing her that happy made his flutter causing him to smile even when he didn't feel like it.

After preparing breakfast together, the two sat down and ate together.

They also talked about a couple of things during that time but it was mostly about family.

She expected him to help her clean the table while she made her way to the kitchen to grab something but as soon as she went in there, he slowly slipped off toward the couch.

<You're breaking the contract>

'Contracts are meant to be broken.' He replied subconsciously before stretching himself on the couch.

<I think the word there is supposed to be rules>

'It's still the same thing.' He replied. 'I think I should put those dishes away before she gets back.'

He was about to get up from the couch when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.

He quickly dipped his hand into his pocket and brought the phone out to see that it was a text message from someone.

"Oh, I almost forgot about that." He muttered before picking up the house control from the table.

At that moment, Emma returned from the kitchen to see that the dishes were still on the table, no, it was more like she came to see why he had not brought them in yet.

"Dave." She grumbled before turning her gaze to the couch where she could see his legs sticking out.

"Honey, can't you please get that one for me, just this once?" He pleaded but he didn't even bother to raise his gaze to look at her or he just didn't want to see the look on her face right now.

She didn't say anything for a while before finally responding with; "Fine."

She was about to start picking up the plates when a knock suddenly came from the door.

"Who's that?"

"Come inside, it's open." Dave articulated.

As soon as he said that, the door was slowly pushed open for Mateo to walk in.

"Mateo?"

"Hey, guys." Mateo greeted them with a wave.

"And we just finished having breakfast." She muttered before lowering her gaze to the plate she was about to pick up.

"That's okay, sis, I had breakfast before coming out." He informed her as he made his way to Dave.

"Oh, I see, so why are you here this early?"

"I came to see Dave, of course, he's the one that asked me to come."

"Oh, so he had plans with you today." She pointed out with a nod.

"I guess you can say that," Mateo replied with a shrug.

"I'm not hearing the end of this one," Dave mumbled before slowly shaking his head.

"Hmm, I see." She muttered with a smile meant to disguise her irritation.

After that, she picked up the dishes and quickly made her way to the kitchen.

"Is there anything going on between you two because I know that last smile was fake?" Mateo asked with his gaze fixed on Dave now.

"I agreed to spend the whole of today with her until you got here just now," Dave replied with a calm voice before sitting up on the couch.

"Oh, I guess I can't stay for long then." He said before slowly sitting down beside him.

"Yeah, I guess."

"We're getting pretty strong teams from the Europa League in the round of sixteen, Tottenham, Real Betis, Wolfsburg, Napoli. Wolfsburg already beat Lazio in their first meeting this Thursday." The winger articulated.

"What was the scoreline?"

"Two goals to one."

"Hmm, I see, but this round was always going to be tougher so getting tough opponents was expected but the draws haven't been made yet so things can always turn out differently."

Mateo was about to say something when he heard Emma call his name from the kitchen entrance.

The two had to quickly turn their gaze to the area to see her slowly wiping her hand with a piece of cloth.

"What do you say to a match in FIFA?" She inquired.

"You want to play FIFA with me?" His confusion was evident in his voice.

"Did I stutter?"

"Okay, if you want to play then I guess it's okay."

He was trying to see if Dave would have any objections but he seemed to be fine with it.

"Cool." She smiled as she made her way to the controllers sitting on top of the PlayStation below the television and picked them up.

She made her way to the couch afterward and just before she could hand one of the controllers to her brother, she turned her gaze to Dave.

"Do you mind? I want to sit beside my brother." She exacted with a cold tone to her voice.

"Yeah, sure, go ahead," Dave muttered with a sigh before shifting off to the side.

With him now out of the way, she slowly sat down beside Mateo and handed him the other controller.

'I guess I'm the third wheel now.'

<A shame>
