Chapter 34: Desolate desert [2]
Chapter 34: Desolate desert [2]
After two hours of walking through the desolate desert, they had managed to visualize something that looked like an oasis, but they were unsure if it was one. As is well known, deserts often generate mirages, optical illusions caused by the refraction of light that produce distorted images of distant objects or the sky.
In addition, before reaching this point, on their way, they encountered various types of monsters from vultures to giant ants mutated due to the environment. However, none of these monsters were as difficult for them as the Titan scorpion they encountered first. Well, it wasn't as hard for them because these monsters were not as tough as the scorpion.
And Erik had gone up three levels, he was now at level eighteen.
To verify that the oasis he was seeing was natural, Erik concentrated on his eyes began to glow slightly and his entire vision turned black and white. It was then that he confirmed that the oasis was not a mirage, but his eyes caught something else...
'What a vile dungeon...'
'I didn't expect the boss monster to be hiding in that place.'
After confirming the authenticity of the oasis, Erik sensed the 'Soul' of a monster, perfectly hidden, waiting for the perfect moment to attack when they were vulnerable.
'Good thing I have these eyes' Erik thought with relief. If it wasn't for these eyes, of which he had no idea what they were for or how to use them properly. Plus he lacked any kind of information about them.
Looking away from the monster's 'Soul', Erik speaks calmly, "The oasis is real."
Violet arched an eyebrow as if he was misheard. "How can you be sure it's not a mirage?" she asked, as she didn't understand how he could be so sure of her words.
Erik turned his gaze to Violet and pointed to her eyes which were still glinting slightly. He said with a small smile, "I know, thanks to my eyes."
As she came into contact with those eyes, Violet visibly shivered, her expression turned pale as if she had seen a ghost, and a cold sweat began to run down her back and even her breathing became erratic.
Several question marks began to appear above Erik's head. He didn't understand why Violet reacted like that...
'Maybe there's a monster in the back.'
He spun quickly to dodge whatever attack was thrown at him, but to his surprise, there were no monsters behind him, only sand and dust. Seeing nothing behind him, his expression became confused.
'If there are no monsters, why did he get like that?'
Erik, now he was getting more and more confused. He didn't understand why Violet reacted like that, as his vision returned to normal again.
And the moment his vision returned to normal...
"Gasp... gasp... gasp... gasp..." The air returned to Violet's lungs in agitated gasps as she dropped to her knees on the sand, her beautiful face drenched in sweat.
Erik, visibly concerned, rushed to her. "What happened, why did your expression suddenly change, what did you see?"
Violet couldn't answer right away, as she didn't have the breath to say anything. After a while, she tried to formulate a word and opened her mouth to say something. "....."
There were not enough words to explain what she had just experienced. What Violet felt when she exchanged glances with Erik was something unspeakable: death! Not a death that involved a cycle of reincarnation, but true extinction.
So why Violet's intense reaction? The answer was simple: it was not herself, but her soul, that felt threatened by Erik's gaze.
And why was Violet's soul so unsettled when it met Erik's eyes? The reason was obvious: Erik's eyes are VERY special, as his name indicated, they were the "Eyes of the End". That was why Violet paled because her soul sensed the impending "End".
A minute passed and Erik helped Violet to sit up again. Violet inhaled deeply, feeling her lungs fill with air again.
"Phew... let's continue," Violet said, trying to sound calmer, even though her hand was still shaking.
Seeing this, Erik quickly thought of a way to change the uncomfortable atmosphere he had formed and said. "Violet cast that spell you used against the small goblin village."
Violet looked at Erik with a confused expression, not understanding why he told her that and asked. "Why do you want me to destroy the oasis?"
"Cast the spell and you'll realize why I'm telling you" Erik replied with a smile, as he didn't want to say that he had seen the boss monster's soul with his eyes because he was afraid that Violet would remember again what she had just experienced.
Violet hesitated for a second, but decided to listen to him, knowing that, even if she didn't know him well, Erik was not one to lie about such things. He closed his eyes, raised his wand, and began to gather the circulating mana from around him, quickly transforming it into magical power. As he opened his eyes, they glowed brightly.
Then, he began to conjure the spell he had used against the small goblin village. His wand, unlike before, began to emit a strong glow as a huge magical circle began to form over the oasis, completely blue with shades of white.
When the magic circle was finished forming, Violet's face broke into a wide smile, because she really liked this spell. She exclaims excitedly. "[Star Glacier]"
Swoosh!!!
From the huge magic circle in the sky a huge ice boulder began to emerge that seemed to be bigger than the one that was thrown against the goblins, creating a gigantic shadow that covered the entire oasis.
The huge ice rock began to descend from the sky like a meteorite, creating friction in the air due to its large size, and the speed it was descending. The boss monster that was perfectly hidden in the oasis, feeling threatened, came out of hiding, revealing its appearance: a huge black scorpion of four meters, emanating an aura so heavy that even Erik and Violet, despite being far from the oasis, felt it.
Violet saw the huge black scorpion, now she understood why Erik told her to cast this spell, now she had a doubt in her head, how did she know that in the oasis there was a monstrous, but she decided not to ask about them.
The huge black scorpion instead of running as the goblins did, prepared to face him, when the huge ice rock was only a few meters away from the oasis, all that could be seen was a huge chunk of ice, making the scorpion look tiny.
Being only a few inches away from impact, the scorpion's sting moved at an incredible speed releasing venom, and...
BOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!!!
A thunderous sound echoed in the desolate desert as the huge ice rock made contact with the oasis, raising a huge cloud of dust, sand, and ice all over the place.
RUMBLE!!!!
After the rumble came a strong tremor that shook the whole ground, once again alerting all the monsters that were hiding at that moment.
Swoosh!!
Then, a strong breeze swept away all the dust that covered the place, exposing the state of the oasis, which no longer existed, there was only a huge crater.
From the huge crater, something began to move slowly... and it was the black scorpion that had survived Violet's spell, but it was completely destroyed, its pincers were a mess, the sting with which it attacked the huge ice rock was gone, and it lost several legs.
Despite all the damage, it had survived!
"He really managed to survive that?" exclaimed Erik in surprise. But now was no time to be surprised.
Without thinking twice, Erik launched himself at full speed towards the monster, because he didn't know if the monster had any regenerative powers. When he reached the edge of the crater, he took a giant leap, and in the air, he covered the spear with End Energy...
Boom!
Another explosion was heard in the desolate desert, but not as loud as the previous one, but on a smaller scale, raising a small cloud of dust, which quickly dissipated, revealing Erik on top of the huge black scorpion.

Looking at all the gathered windows grouped together, Erik just glanced over and closed them all. He let out a sigh. "Phew... unless we finish it quickly or else it'd be a pain in the ass to deal with" he muttered, pulling the spear out of the monster's head, and reached in to pull out the mana stone.
....
Once Erik extracted the mana stone, he handed it to Violet to absorb. After he did so, he was almost nothing away from ascending to rank C. And since he had previously absorbed the rank D mana stones he had, there was no way he could ascend at this time.
With the dungeon boss defeated, they made their way towards the exit. Once outside...
"What the hell happened!"
