Chapter 24: Go to dungeons to increase rank [2]
Once Erik and Violet entered the dungeon, which was a not very extensive forest. There were only trees and bushes, and there didn't seem to be many animals, as no birds could be heard in the surroundings.
They walked deeper into the forest, staying on full alert to prevent any kind of surprise attack, which is the common tactic of monsters, except for bosses, who are usually more cunning than normal monsters.
After walking for a while, Erik and Violet started to hear monster noises far away from where they were at the moment.
"Kiiekk!!!"
"Kiieekke-!!!"
"They sound like goblins," commented Violet recognizing the sound of the monsters that were not far away from them.
"Are you sure?" asked Erik, as he had never heard the sound goblins made, since he had never encountered one. Although he had heard of goblins in the test, but he hadn't made it to that area, so he didn't recognize the sound those monsters made.
"Yes, I'm sure they're goblins," stated Violet, sure that the monsters were goblins.
"Then this dungeon will be a piece of cake for us," said Erik, now much calmer than when they entered the dungeon, as he was unaware of what kind of monsters would be in the place.
Knowing that they were goblins, he relaxed completely, for these are at the bottom of the food chain. Even an ordinary grown man can defeat them, as long as he does not panic, otherwise he would be devoured by the goblin. Besides, they are the only monsters that can be defeated with conventional weapons, that's how weak goblins are.
"Alright, let's get started," Erik exclaimed, twirling his spear and creating a small breeze.
Violet also prepared to begin, ready to cast her spells now that she had reached D rank, which would allow her to do so a bit faster than before.
A little further ahead, a small group of five goblins could be seen walking calmly, not knowing what awaited them.
Erik, seeing them, didn't think twice and jumped towards them. Although this act was reckless, after all, they were just goblins, weren't they? So he could afford it.
With that leap, Erik landed in the middle of the group of goblins, leaving them completely surprised by his sudden appearance.
"Kiieekke!"
And before the goblins could react or do anything, Erik swung the spear hard, creating a circle.
Shoosh!
"Kiieekk!!!"
The goblins' heads flew through the air after Erik's quick attack that caught them off guard.

"Phew... honestly, I'm still surprised," Erik muttered with a wide grin, looking at the lifeless bodies of the goblins. He looked down at his hand and closed it tightly; he was beginning to enjoy this sensation. However, he knew that what he was experiencing was because the monsters were too weak.
"Let's keep going," Violet said, after picking up the mana stones. Although she was a bit surprised by the attack she carried out, she felt that when she faced the spider, she became stronger.
Erik and Violet went deeper in search of more monsters. As they progressed, they encountered more goblins as they went deeper into the forest. As expected, they finished off all the goblins they came across easily, even without trying too hard.
Despite eliminating many goblins on their way, Erik did not go up a single level. It seemed that the goblins did not provide him with much experience. They concluded that his level was high, and that goblin experience was insignificant for him, which was quite evident.
After dealing with goblins for quite a while, Erik and Violet came out of the forest and found some poorly constructed houses, all filled with goblins of different sizes.
"So this is a goblin village," Violet muttered, watching the goblins wandering around, some of them even seemed to be eating some animal.
"But I don't see the boss monster anywhere," Erik commented after examining the place. He didn't sense a strong presence in the area, as all the presences seemed quite normal.
"And once we're done with them all, do we cast a spell on them or do I kill them myself?" he asked, having already completed a part of the mission.
[Monsters - Rank E,30 times: Complete (30/30)]
Now all that was left was to defeat the boss monster to complete the daily mission. He would be much calmer later, as the system would not assign any more quests for today.
"Hmm... These were attacked by me. Besides, I want to try out a new spell I got when I moved up in rank," Violet said, preparing to start her new spell. However, before she started her chant...
"I have a question, do wizards like you get new spells by buying scrolls or reading a huge book where spells are written?" asked Erik, curious. He had no idea how wizards acquired new spells, so he wanted to know how they did it so he could try using magic himself as well.
"Hmm... About how we get new spells, the information just pops into our minds," Violet answered quite matter-of-factly.
"Are you serious?" Erik couldn't believe that they just implanted the spells in their minds and that was it.
Where was the fun of studying a spell, of making mistakes, and testing with a newly learned spell? Where were those hours of research to discover or create new magic? Erik could not accept that they were simply given the information and that was it, they already had the spell learned.
"Yes, I'm serious. But that only applies to ranks E and D. Starting at rank C, we'll have to research our attributes and improve our skills to move up in rank," Violet explained.
It all made more sense to Erik now. If it didn't, mages would be very powerful and everyone would want to become one.
"I see. What are your attributes?" he asked curiously.
"I possess two attributes: ice and light," she stated calmly.
"Oh, you're a dual element mage," Erik exclaimed, visibly impressed. Although he didn't know much about mages, he sensed that possessing two attributes was not a common occurrence.
A broad smile broke out on Violet's face, and she puffed out her chest with pride. She knew it was extraordinary for a mage to have more than one attribute. However, she quickly adopted a serious expression to begin her spell.
"Phew..."
Violet let out a sigh, closed her eyes and the surrounding mana began to congregate around her. When she opened them again, she was glowing and the mana was transforming into magical power, concentrating on the wand she held in her hand. Then, he began to chant the chant of his new spell, the one he had learned after his promotion in rank.
Shoosh!
In the sky above the small goblin village, a magic circle appeared and covered the whole place. The goblins looked at all this in confusion.
"Kieekk!!!?"
"Kieeekk!!!"
"Kikeeeiikk!!!"
Violet, observing the magic circle in the sky, a big smile on her face and excitedly exclaimed, "[Star Glacier!"]
Swoosh!!!
From the magic circle, a large rock made of ice began to emerge, which completely cleared the sky, leaving only the imposing figure of the rock in the firmament.
"Wow, how beautiful!" exclaimed Erik, looking at the huge rock in the sky.
The gigantic mass of ice began to descend from the sky like a meteorite at great speed, straight towards the small village of goblins. The goblins, seeing it, panicked as they realized that it was getting closer and closer.
"Kieekeke!!!"
"Kieekekekeeekk!!!"
"Kieeekakkkaa!!!"
The goblins tried to flee the village, but it was too late to escape the place....
BOOOOOM!!!!
A thunderous sound echoed in the area when the ice rock hit the goblin village, which had no chance to escape, raising a huge cloud of dust all over the place.
RUMBLE!!!
After the rumble came a strong tremor that shook the whole environment, alerting all the animals that were in the forest at that moment.
Swoosh!
Next, a strong breeze swept away all the dust that covered the place, revealing the state of the goblin village, which lay destroyed in the middle of a huge frozen crater.
"How much magical power did you employ in that spell?" inquired Erik, contemplating the vast hole.
"I used half of my magical power reserve" answered Violet, as a bead of sweat slid down her forehead, though her face could not hide the smile.
'Wizards are amazing,' Erik thought as he looked at the crater strewn with hideous monster corpses.
"Well, let's go collect the mana stones," said Erik, heading toward the crater.
Violet heads towards the crater. Once inside, none of the goblins managed to survive Violet's attack. If they had survived, it would have been a true miracle, but they were doomed to die at Erik's hands anyway.
"Wow, it's even more impressive up close," Erik exclaimed at the edge of the crater, then descended to pick up the mana stones.
