My Dearest General: It Has Always Been You

Chapter 65 - Preserved Body Part

Recreational Park of City A located near the suburb area, approximately 2 hectares, if one calculated from the entrance to the back garden. It had the trademark fountain waterfall dance, which was the spot that was most liked by children. Not only the fountain, but they could also play with water in the designated area.

There were playgrounds, restaurants, shopping mall, small amusement park, cottage houses, natural exquisite sceneries, photobooth area and many other services which made it popular all year around.

Henan Corporation, which was owned by Nan Cheng, had 51% shares in Recreational Park, making him the biggest shareholder meanwhile the rest of the shares was divided among other businessmen with the second most larger shareholder being the government.

Afterall, this was a public space and the park was built atop of a piece of ownerless land. Tacitly, all of the ownerless land belonged to the government and it was because of the government's permission that Nan Cheng could create a project to build a recreational park.

Just for monitoring the whole Recreational Park, Jin Renguang had to install more than 300 new CCTVs. With that, there would be no blind spots throughout the park. There were so many places where the culprit could have dropped the body part.

Below the ferris wheel? In the restaurant's bathroom? In the cottage house's lobby?

So many possibilities and the officers dispatched to monitor the park changed shifts all day long with 8 hours each.

Still, they failed.

Still, they let the culprit escape.

In the monitoring control room, the whole wall was filled with rows of screens, each divided by four, showing different sceneries at different times. 300 CCTVs and they had to screen it all from yesterday which was approximately 28 hours. There were only less than 60 police officers who could do overtime.

They were assigned with one screen each person while Jin Renguang dominated four. Sixteen records, each showed around 20 meters square of land. If it was the peak hours, then the people in one screen could exceed fifty, just like sardines that stuck together. He had to analyze each person and scrutinized them intently.

His dark pupils reflected the light from the screen and his focus was so intense that his eyes could bore holes into it.

Tang Wei put Jin Renguang's personal cup which was filled with coffee on top of the desk beside him. "Boss, drink something first. You haven't drank anything ever since you returned."

Jin Renguang didn't even move his eyes. He reached out and lifted the cup to his mouth skillfully, finishing the coffee in a few large gulps. "Thank you. How about the surveillance record around the area where we found the body part? Have you processed who carried the bag?"

Tang Wei pushed up his glasses. "Yes, we have. But this kind of bag is really common among people. By now, we have identified 26 people who carried the same bag and passed through the fountain."

Jin Renguang frowned and pressed pause on his computer. "Give me the data. How about the people whose hands become empty once they pass through? Or the one whose bag suddenly disappeared? You can also check it right?"

"Boss," Tang Wei smiled bitterly. "The problem is, there are so many people! They are stuck together and the hands are often covered. Moreover, it's a small sized bag. The culprit could just cover it with his coat and then, it couldn't be seen anymore."

Jin Renguang pinched his brows. "Carefully check every single person who passed through the fountain. Prioritize the one who carried the bag. Identify them one by one and start to contact them all."

The door swung open and there came Lin Zhouyi with his white coat and face covered with a surgical mask. "Captain, the forensic result comes out. The right leg belongs to the first victim this year, Su Bina. But I can't make a more accurate calculation because the body clearly has been preserved all these while."

"Preserved?"

"Yes," Lin Zhouyi expressionlessly continued. "There is wax, formalin and traces of frost in the severed leg. It is speculated that the culprit has smeared the leg with wax and formalin before putting it in the freezer. So far, there's no hint of decay detected."

Tang Wei cursed. "Perverted bastard!"

Jin Renguang stood up. "What about the previous body part? There is no substance detected from them?"

"No. This one is slightly different from the one before. Previously, the body parts were still fresh, the blood didn't have any hint of coagulation. It is estimated that the culprit dumped the body parts less than three days after he murdered them. But this Su Bina…"

"Yes, it is different. Before, we never found another person's body part when we investigated one like how we found Yang Shijin's right leg during our investigation on Su Bina." Tang Wei concluded. "Su Bina has been reported missing since 28th March, at that time, her colleagues said that they couldn't reach her for three days so we can say that she was kidnapped on 25th or 26th. Then, Yang Shijin's right leg was found on 12th April. Comrade Lin, how about Yang Shijin's leg? Can you estimate when she was murdered?"

Lin Zhouyi flipped through the pages in his notebook and nodded. "All of the previous victims were consistent. Based on the livor mortis, it is estimated that Yang Shijin had died for two days."

"Two days…" Tang Wei muttered. "So, it's 10th April? But Yang Shijin often didn't return home for one or two days, even her family didn't care too much about her. We didn't know when exactly she was kidnapped and where. No, the question now is, why did the culprit preserve Su Bina's leg?"

"Obviously, it is because she has been dead for a month. If it was left alone, then it would surely rot by now." Lin Zhouyi spoke by the matter of fact.

Of course, he wasn't wrong, but why did the culprit suddenly change his behavior?

Jin Renguang didn't talk since the beginning, his mind was constantly thinking. If he was in the culprit's shoes…someone with OCD, he couldn't bear to keep the body part which had started to rot so he preserved it. But why didn't he spread it all at once just like last year? Why one by one?

A horrible guess instantly popped up in his mind.

So that he could distract the police, led them by their nose so that they were wary of where he would dump the body part in the future.

Why did he want to distract the police?

Because he had unfinished business that stained his continuous glory. A business which was more important than anything else. He had committed numerous homicides and dismembered every single one of them without fail, except for one. It was unforgivable. As someone with a severe case of OCD, he surely couldn't sit still knowing that one of his victims was still alive and kicking.

The one and only victim that was still alive until this day, Butterfly.

He had to take care of her first.
